When I…read moreintroduced myself at the desk and said that it was the first time I was visiting, the lady on reception was so friendly and helpful, gave me a tour of the facilities, explained that the pools are public and the health club side is members-only, but that through Move GB I could choose which side to use. As I was only there to swim I gave the sauna and steam room a miss this time and went on through to the pool side. Only the main pool was open (it was around 7.30pm on a Thursday), but it is a good sized pool. There is also a teaching pool and I think there are outdoor pools too for summer! There were a few different lessons happening, and the two remaining lanes for lane swimming were a bit confusing and not very well patrolled in regards to the direction of swimming, and the whole pool was quite busy. This was probably worsened when half of one of those lanes was cordoned off for an aqua aerobics class, but it didn't bother me as I took part in the class! And it was great exercise! The changing rooms are mixed/ family ones, a good size with plenty of lockers that take tokens, which you can get for £1 from reception. Overall a welcoming place, and probably better when it is not quite so busy!

But in reality all it provides is a separate changing rooms for monthly paying guests The entrance lobby is poorly designed and the men's changing room is split into two on the ground floor, fitted out with what looked like the cheapest fittings they could find. Upstairs on the main gym floor - most the equipment was showing its age. All 1990's equipment squeezed in. The dumb bells had chunks missing from the rubberised edges and looked terrible. Considering the competition around, its extremely poor value for money. Having been a member at more modern gyms, you really notice how totally out of date and ratty this place is.

The rooms which I know about are the main gym room, weights room, power zone and the rooms used for classes. I mostly use the power zone which I absolutely love. It's pretty unique as I haven't seen it in any other gyms I've been to - it's basically a room which is very dark with a massive tv screen showing music videos with music blaring. Really gets you in the mood for a work out - very motivating! And you don't have to worry about people seeing how rough you look when you're working out haha! Classes are also very good. The instructors really work you hard but that's the best way - need to be pushed to the limit! Though the classes are hard, they're good fun, especially if you go with friends. Would definitely recommend this gym!

Virtually everything needed a jolly good scrub with soap and water. Its not exactly the size of say, Virgin Active - but it has all the machines that you need for a good workout. On first glance, it's not a particularly girlie gym. There are definitely more men then women who go here, but it is far from intimidating if you are a girl and want to join. One of the best qualities of this gym, and what sets it apart from the big guns, is the way that the fees are structured. With big gyms it is difficult to get anything other than a 1 year contract, but here, you can buy daily passes, 1 month/3month and 6 month memberships as well as a yearly membership. Myles also provides 'low income' reduced rates for people who are students, au pairs, unwaged etc. Bodybuilders and fitness fanatics, you can also buy all your Reflex products here, such as nutritional supplements, meal replacement powders and protein and energy bars. I would join just so that I could have a permanent natter with Myles, but that would slightly defeat the purpose of joining a gym.

When you're in the pool you can see everything - you've got a good view of the bar and courts. Its a good place to relax. They also have a golf course which is great as not many gyms have this. They have lots of exercise classes too which is great as I preer classes to using the gym equipment. Classes are fun and it keeps me motivated. This place has got a spa as well. You can get pampered there. It has got student memberships and also membership for younger kids/young people as well.

The gym area looks down onto it while the reception, bar and squash courts also have full view of the pool. The squash courts are great fun too, as is the golf course. So, if you get bored of the gym there's lots of other exercise options.

Teddington Pool is a 'standard' indoor pool. By that I mean there are no water slides or wave…read moremachines or sprinklers or the like. There is one large pool and one baby/teaching pool (warmer and shallow). The pool is adequate, though often has sand at the bottom, possibly from the playground next door. The dressing rooms are clean, though could do with a facelift. There is also a small gym - I've never used it, but you can see it from reception (there are windows) and it looks small but adequate, if that's your thing. They run a bunch of classes, including sub-aqua and aquarobics - I've done the latter, and for a while did it every week after work on a Wednesday. It's not expensive to swim here - under £4.00, and cheaper if you have a leisure card. The leisure card is worth getting if you will be using this (or any of the London Borough of Richmond's leisure facilities) regularly. The classes also attract a discount if using a leisure card. There is a pay and display car park on site, however, you get your parking fees refunded if you are using the pool or its facilities. This is a good little local authority pool and gym. Richmond has a bigger, swisher pool - Pools in the Park - but if swimming laps or attending classes or just getting fit is your bag, this is perfectly formed.
