This was the first place we went after some restaurants opened up following COVID-19. They're doing a great job with precautions, only 10 people allowed inside, 16 on the patio which they have conveniently taped spaces on the benches so you know where to sit to remain 6 feet apart, and one of the workers came out and sanitized the door and benches while we were there. Their ice cream was tasty! I got the midnight raz which is similar to black raspberry, my only complaint is it had a lot of seeds in it that got stuck in my teeth, but that leads me to believe it's more fresh! Nuggs was my first ice cream experience in Denver and seems to be a solid choice to satisfy your cravings. During COVID-19, the shop has thoughtfully laid out markers for appropriate physical distancing and has a great patio layout for you to enjoy your ice cream outside. I went at about 8pm on a weeknight and waited in line for about 10 min. As soon as you walk into the store, you get a nice waft of their waffle cone. It immediately convinces you that a waffle cone is the right choice. I was excited to check out the flavors and thought it was a bit difficult to see all the choices before having to make my decision based on the spacing between parties in the line, but they do have written signs that are visible. I thought that their flavor selection was pretty classic with a good range of flavors to appeal to any ice cream lover. I loved the coffee ice cream I chose, but wasn't as big of a fan of the mint chocolate chip, which didn't have as much of a unique or rich flavor that I would have liked. I think it was more of a personal preference though. The ice cream is certainly a bit pricey though, so that is why I'd dock it from a 5 to 4 based on the value for taste. Next time, based on these reviews, I'm going to have to try their ice cream cake and/or cookie ice cream sandwich. Looking forward to trying new flavors and combinations! read more

The coffee ice cream was some of the best coffee ice cream I have had and had a great rich flavor and smooth texture. The praline ice cream could have used a more buttery base ice cream (I think they use vanilla), but there were lots of tasty pecans. Overall, we have found our new favorite ice cream place! I'd come back. That was my first thought that came to mind just after receiving my blue moon ice cream cookie sandwich. If you're wondering what Blue Moon tastes like.. it tastes just like Froot Loops. FROOT LOOPS! I don't even eat cereal but Froot Loop-flavored ice cream is amazing. I tried a single scoop of amazing joy (almond joy) & blueberry ice cream. The flavors aren't as distinct/strong as I would have liked (especially with the blueberry). I also tried my friends rocky road. It was rich, which was nice, but there were no marshmallows! Their key lime flavor isn't green colored but instead is white like vanilla. It tastes just like key lime pie. Their kids scoop is more than enough ice cream for one person and their sugar cone was crunchy and fresh. I like the clean & modern interior with the white plastic chairs and the celebrity paintings on the wall. I also like the old fashioned ice cream ads above the cashier that resembled the stickers you'd see on ice cream trucks. They had fun ice cream flavors that incorporated candies (almond joy, Milky Way, etc.). They also have milk shakes & ice cream cakes. The worker was cheerful & helpful. So many homemade flavors to choose from, all at my disposal to taste. Either the guy had a sugar high himself, was bored on that wonderful empty Tuesday night, or was just blissfully happy, whatever the case was he made it rain ice cream samples! He said we could taste as many as we'd like. Such an amazing man! I tried a fruity pebble flavor, I can't remember the name but it was bright blue - so you can't miss it. It was sweeter than sugar and as a responsible adult I decided to respectfully decline that dose of diabetes. I'm sure kids go crazy for that one. Besides just asking about popular flavors, I think one of the best ways to select the best ice cream is to look at which canisters have the least amount remaining. I could see the bottom of the strawberry shortcake ice cream container and I knew that was the one. The guy working there said it was his favorite. I'm a chocolate lover and typically stick true to it, but that strawberry shortcake had real frozen strawberries and cake embedded throughout and I couldn't stop myself. We got a pint to go and I walked out with a big ol' scoop of it in a cup too. Sorry chocolate, you'll have to take a back seat on this one! My roommate really enjoyed the cookie dough, she said mint chocolate chip was ok. It was Taco Tuesday. Their ice cream tacos come in a taco shaped waffle cone. I could foresee the waffle snapping in half and my ice cream falling through so I took a hard pass on that offer. I'll be going here again. They advertise as having nut-free options and being allergy aware, but this was not my experience. All of the flavors were mixed together in a couple coolers, no mind to allergens. Obviously this does not limit cross contact since scoops are reused in different containers. When I asked if they could use a clean scoop and get a fresh tub from the back, I was told (and I quote), "this is as good as it's going to get" while rolling his eyes, sighing and making me feel like a complete burden for wanting to stay safe. How dare he make me feel bad about an allergy I have no control over!! What a inconsiderate, terrible person, and the other staff around him did not correct this behavior. I'm disgusted with this persons behavior and have no confidence in their food safety or allergy awareness. If you are an allergy sufferer, this place doesn't actually care or try to work with you. Might as well go to any other shop without "awareness" Not sure if this was made obvious by the above review, but I will NEVER come here again and will be active in speaking out against this place to allergy sufferers of any capacity. Nuggs is as sweet as can be! The ambiance and ice creams are on point for a yummy dessert after dinner in the East Colfax area. Upon entering we were greeted with a friendly, warm "Welcome!" at the door and offered to try some samples - a relief to receive an offer for samples as I was walking in w two ice cream hungry littles that almost always choose the same blue raspberry flavors. This time they felt they had control over their ice cream experience and kept the Nuggs guy busy with dipping this one and that one for them to try. After sampling 3 each, I had them settle on a flavor but not before trying my own 2 samples and exiting the sampling game right then and there - the Blue Moon & Birthday Cake flavors had me sold, and I'm normally a richer flavor seeker but these two together just did it for me today. So good! I just wish their homemade waffle cone was also made into a cup as I knew I couldn't finish my double scoop right in one sitting. Despite hubby AND kids sneaking digs of my cream, and eating a good portion myself, I still have plenty leftover for a late night treat. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
