I wanted to like this place, I did. At first I thought they were being thorough, but I slowly realized they just want to push treatments on you. I have never before been told I need a deep clean. I got a second opinion and they basically told me my gums were fine with some concerning areas but nothing that extra flossing and brushing couldn't fix. I was told that the numbers they told me for the probing were exaggerated. I cancelled my future deep cleaning appointment. I feel scammed and will not be returning. I was told by my friend who is a hygienist in the South Bay to choose private family practices because they don't get any incentive to do extra procedures. This place is a scam. They told my husband he needed a deep cleaning performed (thousands of dollars out to pocket) plus deep cleanings every 3 months thereafter. He scheduled the dental procedure with the dentist that I see only to be told he doesn't need the procedure at all. It makes us think the root canal they performed a couple years ago was totally unnecessary as well because he had literally never had a cavity in his life nor had any cavities every been pointed out before in the regular check ups he attended like clock work. This is the first dentist I have been to that actually care about your comfort and are so sweet and professional. My hygienist was Stephanie and she was Awesome! She was so accommodating and showed she really cared about my comfort and well being. She made my teeth look super awesome too! Front desk ladies are also really sweet and very welcoming. Wow! Where do I even begin? First off, the front desk staff is friendly, but the dentists I've met seem to drive them by fear. They've all been rude, lacking empathy, and often disrespectful to me and other patients I over heard (No privacy). I went in for a toothache, and right away, the dentist told me, "You need a root canal." It turns out I didn't need one at all, and just as they were about to start the procedure, the dentist stopped when they realized I didn't require it. They then said something mind-boggling: "It doesn't seem like you need it, but if you want, we can proceed." I was shocked! Aren't you the expert? Shouldn't you be sure before suggesting a procedure? Ultimately, they opted not to go forward with it. When I returned for help with the painful tooth, they again suggested a root canal on a tooth that wasn't even affected. This place doesn't deserve any stars. DO NOT go here for dental work. When Dr. Mantena was here they were good. I just had the worst experience with a dentist here bordering on incompetence. I came in for a toothache that had woken me up at night. After x-rays, the dentist spent about 30 seconds spraying cold air on my tooth and told me it was just exposed root and I needed to start using Sensodyne toothpaste. She said it would take about two months to get better. I questioned her diagnosis to myself but I figured she was the expert so I went on my way. What followed was a five day nightmare. Constant, severe toothache that was keeping me from getting any sleep. I complained to my wife, who is a retired dental hygienist, and she took a look in my mouth and quickly said, "you have a cracked filling that needs to be fixed." As soon as Monday hit, I called Nut Tree Smiles to get an emergency appointment. I explained my situation to the person answering the phone and this is what she said, "the doctor examined you last Thursday and didn't find anything wrong." Furious, I made an appointment with another one dentist. They did a much more thorough exam and determined I needed a root canal. Nut Tree Smiles had misdiagnosed my cracked filling as gum recession! I have been going to Nut Tree Smiles since 2015. I had my issues with them, primarily about how they pushed expensive treatments. But I wasn't so unhappy as to leave, because I was given a choice whether to have the treatments or not. But things have changed since the pandemic. My insurance provides for two annual exams, cleanings and x-rays at no charge. First to go was the twice annual x-rays. I was informed I would only be getting x-rays once a year, never mind what my insurance said. Today, I was informed that my gums are bleeding (they aren't) and I would have to have a deep cleaning. Before the pandemic, seeing the hygienist was included with my visit, at no charge. Now it costs $1200.00. For a cleaning. I declined, saying I could not afford it. I was told, by Dr. Chang, to remove their glasses and leave. She said she could not perform a cleaning. Well, I did leave, and I will not be back. Further, my insurance, which is through Kaiser, will be hearing about this. By the way, this same thing happened to my husband last year. He went to our former local dentist, who did the cleaning without a problem. Dr. Chang said, "Well like everyone, our costs have increased." Yeah, like maybe the new building? Or maybe greed? From no charge to $1200.00 is quite the increase for a couple of years. Do yourself a favor and find a different dentist. These people care nothing about you. After much consideration, we wont be returning to this dentist. A few months back my disabled sister made an appointment. They were weeks booked out. I called to ask what protocols they were taking for covid. The receptionist was extremely rude to me and stated "if your that afraid to go outside because of covid, the dentist is not the place you should be going". Excuse me? I had every right as a concerned care giver to my sister to ask about thier protocols. She told me, nothing has changed and that maybe she should wait longer. I really appreciated Dr. Gill's chair side care as well as his assistant. After my appointment I asked if he could do my cosmetic crowns i have been trying to accomplish for years. He had the front office team give me an estimate which was very reasonable compared to numerous other quotes i have received. I called a few days later with additional questions and the receptionist was courteous and got back to me promptly. An appointment was made for the following day and now i have the smile makeover i have been wanting for years! I would highly recommend this practice. I would not only never return, I would not recommend this business to anyone. The dental assistant took more x-rays than I've ever had in my life. I felt like she took X-rays for hours, although it was probably about 30 minutes I spent getting X-rays taken by an assistant that seemed miserable with her career, or possibly unhappy with her employers. Either way, she was extremely rude and terrible at patient care being that a large percentage of us are terrified of the dentist. She had absolutely no empathy or compassion. She hardly spoke, and when she did speak, it was an invoice you could hardly hear. To ask her to repeat herself, seem to irritate her further. It was a confusing experience all the way around, and I can say this, the friendliest, warmest and most welcoming of this dentist office, was the front office staff. The dentist intended to me, was not only rude and made me feel like I was a drug seeker. Because I ask that any work that she would be doing on me would be medication administered with it. I am literally terrified of the dentist and have been all my life and I have good reason for it. I've had many bad experiences as a child in the 60s getting my cavities filled with absolutely no Novacaine. So the dentist that I had the day that I went in, made it very clear in a very rude manner that she will not administer any sort of medication upon future dental work which apparently I need a lot. After a short visit with her and her explaining the thousands of dollars in dental work that would be needed, without medication, she checked some sort of a list that she had with her right when she was getting ready to end the appointment, and realized she had skipped a step, which was a cleaning, which I am supposed to receive with my dental benefits. So she picked up one of the wire instruments, and stuck it in between two of my upper left teeth. She pulled it back out and said there I'm done.! I couldn't believe it. This was by far the worst place I have ever been to in my life. I spent more time and that x-ray room then I spent in the dentist chair. Not only that, the dentist left me sitting in the chair for quite some time while she tended to another patient. So the total time I believe this time to spend with me. Was a total of approximately 10 to 15 minutes in which time she was extremely rude. She scared me to death and she made me feel like a drug addict. I would never returned to that place again if I was offered millions of dollars to do it. Some people have a good experience is there I guess I can't imagine how. I've been calling twice a week for a month and a half asking about the wisdom teeth surgery I have scheduled and the surgeon hasn't even tried to get back to me with 3 simple questions. I have a nonissue hurdle that I need to work out with them and 3 of the phone secretaries that answered seemed like they'd be okay with it and the lady that just answered was completely rude and when I said my boundaries, tried to cancel my appointment. They haven't talked to me about what's happening in my appointment, the healing process, the medications, nothing. My surgery is in 1 week. I've explained my fear and all I've got is being neglected and then given attitude by the lady over the phom UPDATE: I am very pleased with how my procedure went. Absolutely thrilled with my choice to switch to Nut Tree Smiles Dentist. I needed to get a teeth cleaning and this was the first time at this office. The dental x-rays were very easy and normally it's high anxiety for me. The technician could sense that I was having some difficulty and she slow down and kept checking on me. After the x-rays were done, we were able to discuss a plan going forward. The benefits advisor came in with a very easy to understand breakdown of charges of what my insurance would not cover & a list of co-pay's at each appointment. She even helped me schedule appointments that worked best for me. After that appointment, I am fully convinced I made the right decision on choosing this dental office. read more

My mom went in to get a new crown. They didn't fit it properly and it came off within six months. They refused to make another one, even though it clearly didn't fit because they made it too short. I honestly never write reviews, but I want to warn people to AVOID this dentist! They try to shake you down for money and won't even do a teeth cleaning unless you agree to pay $1200+ for a procedure you (surprise!) don't actually need! (Verified by second opinion from a reputable dentist.) To make a long story short, this place started out well. I started here in 2018, and my first dentist was great. She was very kind, explained everything well, and was quite competent. Then every dentist they rotated in since 2018 has gone progressively downhill, culminating with good ol' Dr. Gill. I saw him a couple of times and things were fine, until he sprung on me that they wouldn't even perform a teeth cleaning until I paid more than $1200 for root planing and scaling due to poor gum health (which would have to be paid out of pocket and is not covered by my discount plan, obviously). It seemed suspicious to me, especially since I'm very diligent in keeping up my dental hygiene and I've never had any of those issues mentioned by any of my previous dentists, but I figured they would know more than me since they're the professionals. On a hunch, I checked the reviews for this dentist's office along with other Smile Generation dentists in the area and it turns out this is a very common occurrence. Since I still needed my teeth cleaned and examined and they wouldn't even clean my teeth, I ended up having to switch to a more expensive insurance plan just so I could go to a legitimate dentist who, after thorough examination (surprise again!) told me I don't actually need that expensive procedure. This isn't just overcharging or up-selling -- this is deliberately taking advantage of people that are already struggling financially. I only went to this dentist office in the first place because of the discount plan that I had to sign up for due to my financial situation (translation: I don't have a lot of money). I feel for those that haven't had another option and have had to choose between making exorbitant unnecessary payments or not getting their oral health taken care of at all. Who knows how many others they've taken advantage of? Sorry, not sorry Dr. Gill. Learn how to be an honest dentist and treat people right instead of trying to shake them down for more money. read more

Our insurance only covers a basic cleaning. After meeting with the dentist he suggested that I needed a deep cleaning and a crown. I stated I did not wish a deep cleaning since I have had a previously bad experience. Once he tried to argue the point with me he refused to complete a basic cleaning (the only part covered by our dental insurance). I have asked several times for this to be put in writing so that Delta Dental will cover the x-rays at another dentist, but they have refused. Basically stating if I wanted this in writing my attorney would have to request. Unless this is your only choice of dental coverage I would suggest a different office for your services. read more

This place is such a cluster and the front staff is rude and condescending (excluding Sandra). Every time I have come in they are never on time. I have waited an hour past my appointment time and today I am at 45 min and still waiting. They overbook and have no consideration for the patient time schedule. There are so many different dentists, staff and specialist that come and go, I always here they are short staffed and training new people. None of the Docs talk to each other so none of them know what the other has done and they don't know what is happening. The only one worth his salt is the periodontist. They are good about getting you in as an emergency but when it comes to scheduled appointments (dental implant), they reschedule, reschedule and reschedule to the point where I finally canceled and told them to inactivate me as a client and send my x-rays to my new dentist. Only to have someone call me a few months later to, you guessed it, reschedule my February dental cleaning (because they were taking a staff day). Which I nicely told this, I'm guessing new girl, to cancel that appointment and delete me from their files and do not call me again. The only thing I liked about the place was Liz.
