The building dates back to 1835 where it was used as a factory for salt-glazed utensils and also housed a few large kilns. Today, the property has been converted into a fabulous mixed use retail, restaurant, cafe, grocery store, museum, office and artist studio space with a focus on vintage and gastronomy. It's a breathtaking space and a lot of fun to visit. Magasin 36 is split over two levels and what looks like two buildings. There is a cafe on the ground floor that makes it well worth the trip. When you enter the building, walk five steps in and order some of their mouth watering baked goods. I highly recommend their cinnamon and cardamom buns - I went back both mornings of my weekend away in Sweden for a cinnamon bun and a tea. Behind the cafe the food situation gets even better. You find the stunning local-focused grocery store called Hoganas Saluhall with tons of organic produce, freshly baked artisan breads, local farm products from around Skåne (the south western region of Sweden), meats and other specialty food delicacies. We picked up a lemon sourdough bread and a few interesting flat breads to bring to the birthday party later that afternoon. A great outing in the area and I heard from my friend, the restaurant upstairs is equally enjoyable.

Was greeted by the server and she suggested the 5 Charcuterie plate which included some sausage, ham, sheep & cow's milk cheese & Rabbit Rilletes. Excellent Charcuterie & paired perfectly with the Blanc Chavignol. The table next to me had a Rilletes sampler (Duck, goose, chicken & rabbit) which looked really good! They have a small shop where you can buy various French delicacies (Foie Gras, various cured meats, etc). Also, wine and liqueurs. A little bit of Paris in CPH. Turned in at the harbor signs (Havn) in Hornbæk. Found the charming little Fiskehuset and picked up some dinner to take home. Staff was extremely helpful and we left with some fantastic Faroese salmon, fresh local nye kartoffler (new potatoes), lemons and a great French rosé. One thing we don't get in the US is very young or raw milk cheeses as there is a pasteurization and aging requirement. It seems that Denmark was going through some similar,though more relaxed laws on this which are changing due to a persistent Frenchman. In talking to the owner we knew that he was a food lover in general based on some questoins he asked: Owner: " what would you like to try?" Us: "What do you love?" Owner: "I love everything here!" Us: "Let's narrow it down to what you consider special. We're looking for thing we wouldn't otherwise be able to get at home" Owner *pulling out tons of samples*: "Are you going to Noma?" Us: "Yes, we are looking forward to it" Owner: "You must be rich people." Us: "Uh not really but we do love food and it's high on the list here" Owner: "Well then you will love the live Fjord Shrimp dish with the brown butter. It is fantastic!" We laugh as we try all the delicious cheese he presents. We walk out with probably a half dozen different things in small quantities that we eat at the nearby square with our baked goods and butcher meats. It was a great eating day.

We shared the passionfruit buckthorn (a bestseller, sounds exotic & tastes divine) + key lime pie (with a hefty + heavenly layer of torched meringue). You really can't go wrong with any of them: I just as easily could have downed the nougat espresso or coconut or homestyle apple pie or carrot cake oh please take me back. We got the coffee (chai lattes included if that's more yo style) + cake special for 64 kr. I know it sounds on the pricey side but there are so many factors goin' for it: the slices are humonnngous, the presentation is lovely (the pistachio crumbles were a nice touch), and the beans are top notch (my americano was supa smooth). Service warm as well - from the patient baristas (ours walked over to the front of the display to patiently explain every glorious flavor of pie) to André himself seeing us out, we felt welcome the whole duration of our stay (+ free tap water & wifi wassup). This place is an absolute gem. Go to Helsingør for the castle & stay for the cake.
