In two weeks time, I have been harassed non stop to pay up and Nystrom refuses to bill my insurance. My insurance and Minnesota Omnibus have both contacted Nystrom and they are still harassing me. I love our therapist, but we found her BEFORE her office became part of the Nystrom monstrosity. Nystrom is terrible to navigate, is rude to clients, has horrible billing policies, and lies. Most recent example: received a bill for several hundred dollars that said YES! Your insurance has already been billed. But my insurance didn't show a claim. Yeah, because they did NOT bill insurance. I chatted with billing on the website and gave them the SAME information I'd already given them in the office, and Jerome gave NO RESPONSE at all. NONE. So then I had to call, and Reena didn't think it was a big deal at all that Jerome ghosted me on chat, because the billing issue had already been escalated, a fact which I guess I was supposed to divine out of thin air because heaven forbid Jerome actually tell me that. Reena insisted it was being handled, and THEN asked me for the insurance information again because they didn't have it. The information she'd just said Jerome had totally handled. while I am currently in the middle of an IOP mental health program, I received an email that there was an update on my patient portal. I logged in to find a notice that my therapist dropped me without talking to me. after seeing her for about 2.5 years (before she started cancelling our appointments day-of, even though if I'd done that the 3/4 times in 1 month that she did, I would have been charged every time), she put in the briefest note stating I made "Moderate Progress" (again, I'm doing so poorly that I'm in an IOP program), that no discharge letter was sent because "Provider and patient mutually agreed to discharge from therapy" (um, I was not there for that conversation... and I'm not allowed to see an outside therapist during IOP, which a therapist should know), and that the reason for discharge was "Patient referred to a different therapist" (no I sure was not, I received 0 therapist recs from this therapist dropping me cold). it's extremely unprofessional and honestly hurtful, because she literally knows that this summer has been so horrible and led me to doing more intense treatment because of how unexcited about life I was. treatment like this could drive people to take more drastic moves, but luckily, I got this cold message right before walking into program, so I could immediately get help. read more

This company is the Wal Mart of mental health care. A giant, faceless corporation that does not give a shit about its customers. They care about the bottom line, and the bottom line ONLY. When they call you they say "This is Nystrom and Associates" and never provide their own name. Talk about an inhuman experience. We signed up for DBT, and half way through the program, the leader of the DBT program left Nystrom & Associates, and the group therapy sessions were cancelled. We were left in individual sessions with Alyssa. She's a very nice, extremely young and very inexperienced therapist. So, we never received the services we were promised when we signed up. After the program was cancelled, we missed a single appointment with Alyssa, and she in turn charged us $118. I understand that there has to be a consequence for missed appointments, but given that we were never given the DBT program we were promised, you'd think there might be some leniency. NOPE. We have been turned over to collections. Well, it'll be a cold day in hell before we pay Nystrom another penny. Stay away from this place. read more

Beware do not go here if you drive for a job they are unwilling to sign dot waivers for medications not because of the side effects of the medication but they are unwilling to sign the dot waivers because of there lack of knowledge on DOT regulations and rules I am on the lowest dose of a medication that causes drowsiness as a side effect at the lowest it does not make me drowsy but their excuse for not signing the dot waiver was that they are unfamiliar with the DOT regulations and rules so they can't sign the waiver read more

I had 3 "sessions" over the phone.. First one was to diagnose me even though I have already been diagnosed and medicated prior to coming to Nystrom and Associates. Second session was to put together a plan for treatment. Third session was the first actual therapy session. I can't express enough how pointless this all was. The therapist didn't care and was hardly engaging with me. I felt like I was the one leading the therapy session. I didn't book any more appointments and then when I got my bill I was flabbergasted. Nystrom has some great providers (my son sees one) That being said the support process is quite bad. Rarely do nurses call you back (today they did but yesterday they promised to and forgot). It is hard getting communication to your provider etc. I am a provider and feel they are not very focused on patient care as a organization and are extremely disorganized. Again good providers but very poorly run organization. I am sure they have good nurses too. Possibly they are understaffed but that is usually because of monetary considerations. Overall though communication/ responsiveness and follow through is quite poor. Likely you can do better at outside agencies. Sorry to say this but I think it is accurate. I went to initial appointment, showed up on time, and counselor Kimberly Willis showed up late. The second appointment, she showed up late again. The third appointment, after waiting 25 minutes, I was told by office staff that I would be getting credit for this appointment which was then being canceled by staff. This is time taken off work being wasted. On the fourth visit, they wouldn't see me because I hadn't been credited from the previous screw-up. In disgust, I walked out. In my opinion (and many other Yelp users' opinions), this company is unprofessional and I would seek help elsewhere. read more

TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION - This agency is absolutely awful at communicating with their patients let alone providing them with correct information unless they are trying to get money from you. It is extremely difficult to book appointments and you often need to schedule them months ahead of time. My psychiatrist left Nystrom in June and I had to schedule an appointment with a new one all the way out in September. I was informed by Nystrom staff that as long as I had an appointment scheduled, I could call the nurse line to get my medications refilled at any time. However, when I ran out of my ADHD medication, the nurse told me that I could not get a refill without meeting with a provider first, even though I was told otherwise. When I told her that I was told otherwise, she told me that "the people who work the phones don't always know what medications can be refilled and which ones can't." Then why are they telling people this? I am now stuck without my essential medication for who knows how long. This is one of the many terrible experiences I've had with this place. However, now that they are hurting my mental health which they should actually be helping with, I was inclined to write this review. I tried several time to get an appointment for a patient, however the office staff are quite rude and unprofessional. Staff there do not understand how Family Care and the MCOs work with Medical Assistance. Because of this, Nystrom has discriminated against him. Lakeland MCO covers in home medical care nothing with mental health, therefore the medical assistance for health insurance is viable for care. However, Nystrom's complete lack of knowledge of health insurance and customer care is evident and causing more frustration and anguish to people who are desperately in need of help. read more

I signed up for nystrom because my general provider recommended I see specialist for my mental health. This has been the biggest waste of time I had to deal with in a long time! Let's start with therapy. I never met or talked to my therapist. You have to wait months to see them which I did, just to have them reschedule on me resulting in more months of waiting. This happened three times in a row to the point where I gave up on even trying to see her. Or him. I don't remember since we never met! So far everything has been trough telehealth. Which is normally fine. But the problem is I have nearly a 0% success rate with the links they send me resulting in late and really short appointments all because of their horrible system. Now my physician herself. I made the mistake of telling her I console marijuana (hard to believe someone with PTSD consuming marijuana right?) And because of this mistake, she refuses to prescribe me ADHD meds and I really hard to pull her leg to give me anxiety meds for some reason. Really this whole experience has made my mental health far worse and I pray to everyone you don't make the same mistake and sign up for this company. read more

My Nystrom provider has prescribed a medication to my son who has autism that is unavailable. This has been ongoing for over 3 months. I would like Nystrom to prescribe a drug that is available, or at a minimum write a prior authorization. When I call, I'm directed to the nurse's line and when I ask to speak to my son's provider I'm am not allowed, basically Nystrom is denying my access to my son's medical professional. The result of Nystrom's nurses' ineffectiveness in managing this prescription problem is that my son takes a needed med irregularly which affects him poorly. I like our provider, the nursing gatekeepers are rude and ineffective. read more

Nystrom and associates treats all their patients like they a drug addicts even if the drug is an SSRI. SSRIs are not a drug also sold on the street. They do not get you high. That said, if you lapse on them it is devastating. They will not refill my prescription and asked me who was approving it. My answer: You guys were. They do not care about your well being. They are psychologists that do not even appear to understand the well-being risk of a lapse on SSRIs. I stress, SSRIs do not make you "high". Someone trying to get them refilled is not akin to someone phishing for an oxy prescription. Instead, they will let you suffer the week to two weeks for a revaluation appointment. The fact they are supposedly trained in what SSRIs and that they handle it this way makes them not responsible but rather cruel. read more

Two stars because I like my med provider but the company overall feels like the McDonald's of mental healthcare. Or like betterhelp before betterhelp. The providers are located all over the state and there's no coherence. There also feels like a disproportionate push to engage in all of nystroms services. I saw a therapist twice and she recommended I get a case manager, armhs worker, do neuro psych testing and and a dbt group. All things nystrom conveniently offers. I explicitly said I didn't want an armhs worker and she put in the referral anyway. I feel like I'm being sold services rather than provided with care that actually meets my wants and needs. read more

The business practice and models are horrible. You need to do everything by the book or else you will no longer be seen. You have x number of days to give the company information for your care and if you don't they deny you service. They will not work with you even if you fill out the forms and still send them back without any delay. This company only cares about the numbers and how many patients you can cram into the providers. The money is where this is all at and if you do not have all your ducks in a row they will cancel you very easily. My daughter deals with severe mental health issues and we have enough hard of a time getting someone to see her let alone get meds. Get rid of everyone from the CEO or President all the way down to the staff. If I had my way things would change as I am even smart enough to run it successfully. I kept my rating at 3 stars because although I feel like Nystrom has found a workaround for me, the underlying problems with the billing office remain. I am not happy with the resolution, just happy that a workaround has been found for me. It is still more complicated than it needs to be. 1. Although the billing coordinator admits that due to COVID, billing processes are slower (i.e.: They allegedly had a problem running my card, but failed to contact me) he said that he is unable to change when finance charges are applied. Since you are processing bills slower, you need to change process- regardless of whether or not you will remove them if a person calls you. 2. Anthony, the manager of the billing department told me that finance charges are necessary to motivate chronically late people to pay their bills. Those who are chronically late may very well have a good reason. The fact that you assess first and ask questions later suggests that you are insensitive to the mounting levels of medical debt crippling everyday Americans- particularly in the middle of a pandemic. read more

They "diagnose" you over the phone the first time (when you're already diagnosed) and create a "plan" with you & then give you completely pointless sessions with no goal or purpose that relate in NO way to the stated "Goal" or "Plan", just talking about absolutely nothing for an hour. The providers are disengaged & do not care, you are a number of dollar bills or of an insurance bill to them. Unethical practices. I am absolutely appalled by this company. Not only is the corporate greed nauseating, but then to prey on those seeking help the way Nystrom does is not only unbelievable it is downright unethical! I was referred due to a leave of absence and some family trauma. For insurance purposes I was required to see a Psychiatrist. It wasn't enough to take a doctor's word and a psychologists word that I qualified for a temporary leave it had to come from a Psychiatrist. I saw the Psychiatrist twice, it cost $200 / appointment after insurance. My first appointment was 35 minutes, the second, 15! I realize much of this falls on insurance, but I have great insurance its insane Nystrom could bill that much for less than an hours time! When it came time to fill my prescription, my pharmacy made several requests, but the doctor wouldn't fill it because Nystrom's policy is that I schedule another $200 appointment that we all knew would only take 15 minutes to say yep, dose is good! They held my prescription hostage, let it lapse, with no call explaining their policy. I left messages requesting a refill, with no call back. Ultimately after being without the medication for two weeks on top of the billing issues I just quit taking it and quit seeing them. Billing ---- Never in my life have I seen a medical company so quick to start charging finance charges, in fact I have never seen it! Just gross, plain unethical. Worthless and a waste of time. They were only concerned with capturing as much personal data as possible.

They didn't send my paperwork ahead of my appointment, or rather, it was sent to the wrong email address- but mistakes happen so whatever. The Physician Assistant I saw didn't ask about my symptoms and was frankly unprofessional (being really dismissive and making super irrelevant suggestions). I was left with a recommendation to schedule diagnostic testing (for a formal diagnosis I already have), and drug testing required, also. I would've stuck with them and jumped through these hoops if it were not for the THREE MONTH WAIT for diagnostic testing. In contrast (demonstrating this is not standard, industry-wide gatekeeping)- immediately after this frustrating experience this morning, I called another place, got a same day appointment and got the help I needed same-day. What would have taken 4-5+ months with Nystrom was literally one same-day appointment with another place. I'm so glad I won't be continuing with Nystrom. read more

I went to my appointment and arrived on time . I was told I had to reschedule because I have a $2.30 balance and could not pay my current $25 co-pay today . I make decent money and told them I can pay it friday . I was told they have rules and need to reschedule. I'm okay but my concern is for other patients who may be low income . This makes it a barrier to patient care . I'm doing well and am stable . what if a patient that does not do as well was turned away and they really needed care ? I was also told there is a warning pop up on my chart for a credit card that did not work in September 2018 . so I guess I'm treated differently because of that ????? read more

This place is terrible. Here's my complaints. 1. After being up front about what my condition was, I went to 2 diagnostic appointments for the provider to tell me that she wasn't qualified to treat my condition. She referred my to a new provider and I had to start the process over. 2. After waiting months to get in with the new provider, I never received a logon for my virtual appointment so I had to call into appointments to get connected. Missed some time, but no big deal, it happens. Except that the same thing happened at the 2nd appointment. Me sitting waiting for a logon and nothing coming and having to call in and get transferred and connected over the phone. Not a huge issue, but not a great sign, and a bit frustrating. 3. After spending these two session completing the assessment AGAIN and was told by the new provider that she had never treated this condition before and clearly didn't know how to address it. She also seemed unsure of herself often and didn't remember things we had talked about and didn't have notes on things. I've been to other therapists, and this one seemed untrained and unprepared for sessions. 4. They communicate through a portal that you have to sign into to view messages for. A little annoying, but I get it for security. The problem is, if you are on a mobile device you MUST INSTALL the app to view the messages. Who wants an app to read emails from 1 place? So after 5 appoints, money spent, and apps installed, I've moved on. Don't waste your time. read more

This place was a horrible experience. I have suffered a great loss losing my mother unexpectedly and was advised from my medical doctor to take time off work. I made an appointment and all the psychiatric nurse practioner was interested in was prescribing me medication. She did not ask or care about the loss I have suffered Or the abuse I have been through. I was told that returning back to work would be better and she made me feel guilty for taking the time off that I felt was needed for my mental health. I explained my job was stressful and I have never asked for time off in over 20 years and she suggested I quit and get a new job. I have anxiety and depression and this experience on top of losing my mother was the cherry on top! Thanks for nothing and adding insult upon injury. read more

My partner and I were in town for about two years for his internship and I needed to find a place for medication management. The office seemed to go out of their way to make it the most expensive experience they could. HSA holders beware. You'll be charged for a full hour of 'therapy' even if you have a fifteen minute call to simply get a refill resulting in a bill over well over $200 just to get a refill on your prescription. To add insult to injury, the appointments became even more expensive after they went remote due to COVID with an extra 'phone' fee. Previously, there was a phone app where you could request refills, but as that was too convenient and saved money for folks with well-managed situations, they stopped using it. It's absurd. In short, this is practice is prohibitively expensive with manipulative appointment practices that drains you of every dime you have. read more

(almost 6 months out) Never got a call back. Then left multiple messages with the RN desk to get help weaning off meds because they can not be stopped cold turkey and again NO HELP!!!! One doctor wanted me off the medicine but because of a commitment had to making the judge smarter than the doctor. Switch doctors and she lied about a agreement that got Hennepin County to recommit.
