Hubby's b'fast was just ok. Also frustrating that we had to wait very long time for coffee refill, waitress seemed to avoid us...hard to do in such a small room. She clearly was not inclined to serve us with the same friendly attitude provided to other patrons she probably knew. We really want to support local business, but we left frustrated and will likely not return. read more

I've been coming here for years and it's kind of like your typical diner breakfast spot it's pretty basic nothing fancy but I think they need to get new carpet and give the place a good scrub down. O'Brien's is truly a diamond in the rough. The café is adjacent to a bizarrely-named pet grooming business--Bowser Bubbles--in a drab little building along Highway 85. Don't let the outside fool you--this place is amazing! After spending the morning hiking Devil's Head, we stopped here for lunch--and, oh boy, I'd rank this as one of my best Yelp finds ever. The interior is uniquely decorated with shelves full of random trinkets--think Cracker Barrel except way stranger (and thus awesome). Many of the decorations were related to princesses--hey, things don't have to make sense to be cool. One more thing that definitely didn't make sense--the old school indoor thermometer (circa 1990) strategically positioned between the two dining room areas. Props to O'Brien's for being the only restaurant I've ever seen with an indoor thermometer. In the corner of the restaurant near the restrooms, there is a shelf of books with a hand-written sign above it promoting the "BOOK EXCHANGE." Yes, you can borrow books to read while you're enjoying your brunch. Brilliant. Simply brilliant. The menu was awesome--tons of terrific breakfast/brunch options. Lots of the foods are topped with homemade green chili. O'Brien's also has a menu entitled the "MAN-U" in honor of its manliness. Yes, I ordered from the MAN-U. I ordered the #2--the Mighty Meat Skillet with sourdough toast. Our waitress assured me that this was one of O'Brien's most popular meals. The skillet was a perfect blend of meats, spices, potatoes, and eggs... smothered in green chili--ahh, my mouth was in heaven. O'Brien's has several excellent dessert options. Although I didn't order dessert (way too full from the skillet), I did try a friend's rhubarb pie--fresh and absolutely delish. Random place + princess decorations + book exchange + indoor thermometer + great menu + delicious green chili + friendly servers + homemade pies = one of the best little cafes I've ever experienced. read more

A quaint country roadside diner is right up my alley! And I've been wanting to stop here for a longtime. The woman I supposed was the own, party blond, was super friendly and quick with a joke. And the interior is a dyslexic version of a diner, a mix of 50's chairs and 70's eh. But the charm really stops there. A burger In a place like this should be great. Mine was a frozen preform with no flavor. I asked for no tomatoes, but got them anyway. And they didn't have onions. Come on! The fries were good, home made, but ovecooked so that some were Inedible. Great breakfast, and lunch! Always been a regular. My favorites are the cinnamon buns, biscuits and gravy, or really any of the pies. They have a white board for the daily specisls, and one for pies (both good things to check out upon arrival). A friend of mine swears by their breakfast burritos. Wonderful family buisness! He ate evert hing and also added a little of their homemade ghost Chile hot sauce. He said it was hot. I had the Texas omelet with a jalapeno cream cheese inside plus bacon and onions. Amazing. I met a buddy of mine for a motorcycle ride and we decided to give it a shot. It was like stepping into a time machine to back when our country was great. The service was excellent, the food was excellent and the ambiance was excellent. Everyone was friendly. I saw customers visiting with each other and it was apparent that they had never met before. The owner was gracious and visited with all the customers. We will definitely be back! To the person that was offended by the Trump cap, please don't come back!!!!! Have passed by many times and been wanting to try. Finally, today, we had the chance. Walked in and saw four empty tables -- all with dirty dishes on them. Stood by the door for 5 minutes and neither of the two people working there ever acknowledged us. I went to the bar and stood in front of both employees and, again, neither acknowledged me. Finally, after both of the staff walked past us for the third time without acknowledging us, we gave up and left. Very disappointing. We love little diners. The place was packed which is a good sign. My food was luke warm. My veggie omelette just had veggies thrown on top. The hash browns came from a bag of frozen I'm sure because they were flavorless and dry. Boyfriend had juevos rancheros. Very bland and dry. We won't be back. Waitress was very polite. We stopped here after hiking the Devils head. We were hoping to find a quaint small town diner and we were not disappointed! We were very cold from the rain and the coffee an loaded potato soup were perfect for warming me up. My kiddos and husband enjoyed their food as well and we were very happy with the friendly staff. I can't believe I never knew about this hidden gem! Great breakfast spot, they have traditional breakfast fare along with skillets and some mexican specialties. We were happy to see they had grits, creamy and delish. Very friendly service too. Haven't tried their lunch fare yet, but it all looked great at the neighboring tables. I would have given them a "5" but they dropped the ball on their homemade pie. We had two pieces - apple and custard. The apple did have homemade crust but used canned apples (a deal-breaker for me) The custard pie, although a homemade filling, was a little bland and used a premade crust. So we were disappointed with the promise of homemade pie when it really wasn't. Another nice touch would be to not use pre-packaged jelly - would have loved a little jar on the table instead. I pass this place every morning on my way to work and it never fails, there are at least 8 trucks parked outside. I keep telling myself to get up early enough to stop by some morning and today I did. While I would give the food 3 stars, the hospitality is 5. I had the breakfast burrito which was good but the chili is a little bland for my taste. My brother had the biscuts & gravey which were very good. What makes the place so special is Christy and Donna who are both amazing in the way they make you feel at home for a good morning breakfast. "Home cooking" is exactly what you get with a staff that is super-friendly and makes everyone feel like part of the family. Soups from scratch are available daily along with other items based on their family recipes. In addition to menu items, they have home-made pies available. O'Briens is a true "local diner". On any day of the week, you can expect to dine with locals and ranchers from the surrounding communities. Blue jeans is the attire. We started eating here last fall and now go there several times a month as part of our family's regular schedule. Their portions are generous and we've never had a bad meal there yet. While it is a bit of a drive from the metro (we usually drive south on I-25 to the Happy Canyon exit, go west to Santa Fe, and then north to Sedalia), it is worth the drive to have a real old-fashioned breakfast with some of the nicest people you'll ever meet - anywhere. read more

We just recently moved to Sedalia, and with their only being four restaurants to choose from in town, O'Briens being the only real breakfast place, we had high hopes that it would be good, so we can eat here quite often. Unfortunately, we won't be back. I don't mind little 'hole in the wall places', as sometimes that's where you can find the best food. But this place was very dirty. Only one host seating people and busing tables, and only one waitress in the whole place. Unfortunately she had zero personality and kindness skills. But she seemed like she was so young, probably even in high school. The fly tape in the kitchen filled with dead flies really topped it off for me. The bacon was as thin as tissue paper and there was nothing special about the rest of the food. I really like to keep business local with where I live, but unfortunately I cannot subject myself to this breakfast eatery again. :( read more

This is a great place to meet for breakfast. It doesn't seem to get too crowded, has a great variety of food and a very helpful waitstaff. Plus, they have silly signs on the wall and decent coffee.
