We had just flown overnight to Dublin, taken a bus to Wexford, arriving around 1:00 with next to…read morezero sleep. The hotel wouldn't let us check in yet, so my wife and I wandered around, only wanting to lie down and/or eat something. We stumbled on Stable Diet and walked in because it looked familiar and comfortable, probably because in my jetlag I kept misreading the name as "Staple Deli."
We got two americanos, a scone, and a "zesty" chicken focaccia. The coffee dispelled any myths we heard about Ireland's relationship to coffee. The "zesty" chicken was more coated in a sweet barbeque sauce, but it was fine and heathful. But it was the scone that gave us life. I've never had a "cream tea" before, never even had clotted cream. But this scone was perfectly warm and soft, served with the cream and jam. And after 19 hours of travel, it was so comforting I couldn't stand it. For that experience alone, I have to give this place five stars.
