Instead, it became the most upsetting medical appointment my daughter and I have ever experienced. Within minutes, he was recommending three procedures that same day: surgery on both ingrown toenails and surgical removal of the small plantar wart. There was no discussion of conservative treatment, no meaningful explanation of alternatives, and relentless pressure to consent to surgery immediately. When I asked whether the ingrown toenails could resolve on their own, explaining that mine had in the past, he didn't even answer my question. When I asked whether there were any other treatment options, he never gave me a direct answer. Every conversation led right back to surgery. I also asked how painful these procedures would be, and Dr. O'Hanlon told me he "can't say" and when I asked again l, trying to at least prepare my daughter, he said, "everyone's pain tolerance is different." I found that especially concerning given that he was recommending immediate surgery without being able to discuss what the pain intensity and recovery might involve. And he was dealing with a child. He warned that she could spread HPV "all over the place" and that the plantar wart could multiply into several more if we didn't proceed immediately, which felt like another fear-mongering tactic designed to shame my daughter and pressure us into consenting to surgery that day. Thankfully, we sought two additional medical opinions immediately. Our pediatrician recommended conservative treatment with Epsom salt soaks and antibiotics rather than surgery. My daughter's dermatologist told us she NEVER surgically removes plantar warts on or near the bottom of the foot because they can leave painful scars that bother people for years or more and are better treated with conservative methods. Both physicians felt these invasive procedures were completely unnecessary. What disturbed me most was how my daughter was treated. She became increasingly upset throughout the appointment, and rather than trying to reassure her, Dr. O'Hanlon simply continued pushing for three same-day procedures. There was no compassion, no patience, and no reassurance. His bedside manner, especially with children, is absolutely terrible. My daughter left the appointment in tears. When he sensed I was not going to agree to same-day treatment, he said "you're making a big mistake." This comment is even more shocking in retrospect now that I know the appropriate course of medical care. Also troubling was his discussion about reimbursement. He explained he would only be paid about a quarter as much if the procedures were performed that day. Bringing up his own compensation while aggressively recommending three same-day procedures was completely inappropriate and only reinforced the pressure we were already feeling. The office itself appeared somewhat rundown, and there were dirty bottles containing some type of solution sitting on the exam room countertop. After reading other reviews, I noticed one reviewer described Dr. O'Hanlon as "a butcher." After our visit, I can absolutely understand what that reviewer was saying. I shudder to think how many patients have felt the same pressure we did and agreed to invasive procedures they otherwise may have questioned. I regret bringing my daughter to this doctor. What should have been a straightforward office visit turned into a frightening and completely unnecessary ordeal. We were pressured toward three invasive procedures that two other physicians later advised were unnecessary. I have never taken one of my children to a specialist without first going through our pediatrician. Lesson learned. I will never make that mistake again. Dr. O'Hanlon has the worst bedside manner of any doctor I have ever encountered. Not only was I greeted by staff that were friendly, I was given detailed assessment of my condition with my feet by Doctor O'Hanlon. He is a professional and I could tell he wanted me to truly understand my condition. I learned I had pronated feet, which if kept on the trajectory they were on, would leave me severely crippled when I get older. Luckily, Doctor O'Hanlon told me of this severity and recommenced a surgery. Doctor O'Hanlon showed me how he was going to fix me. My right foot was worse off then my left foot so the surgery was decided to be done on this foot first. He heavily recommended a 'Hypro-Cure' aluminum stint emplacement. This was a minor surgery that was relatively painless and quick. I was left on crutches for a couple of weeks and was able to walk soon after that. To be commissioned into the United States Navy, an applicant must pass a medical screening. At first I failed the screening with my pronated feet in the Fall of 2016. Doctor O'Hanlon performed my surgery in the Winter of 2017. On my request, he wrote a letter of recommendation with the added credibility of being a reserve Naval Lieutenant himself in the past. Then after having some extra time to be re-evaluated, I passed their screening in the Fall of 2018. I am forever grateful to Doctor O'Hanlon for his work and dedication to his patients, like me. Both my 2nd toes on both feet (by the way which WERE longer than the big toe) had cysts in them and the nail bed started to deteriorate and the toes were red and swollen to a point it had begun painful to walk in any shoe I would wear. The first male podiatrist I went to in Yonkers just looked at my feet and gave me an ointment to apply at night. Ok so I did that and nothing worked. The second podiatrist was a female doctor in Yonkers and she would give me injections for the pain and told me the injections is the only thing that would help. What do I know I'm not a doctor so I went with it. For a whole year I was getting those painful injections. I moved to Somers 3 years ago and hadn't seen a Podiatrist due to my busy new work schedule, until this year when my toes started acting up for the worse! I called my insurance company for a new doctor in Somers and they gave me Dr. Viscovich! ON MY FIRST VISIT he told me I needed surgery (toe reduction) on both toes! I'm like WHY NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THIS! he said my toes are only gonna get worse if I don't do the procedure. So my first surgery was 4/2/19 on the left foot and then 5/14 for the second foot. Both procedures were painless I didn't feel a thing. It was a little difficult to walk obviously BUT I was back to work in 4 days and both my feet are PERFECTTTTTTT and no pain or cysts or anything else! I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent experience with the office staff at the Carmel…read morelocation, specifically the woman who handled checkout at my last visit and appears to be the office manager, was extremely frustrating and upsetting. To be clear, Dr. Howard, the orthopedic surgeon that I've been seeing is phenomenal. I have had two knee surgeries with him, and his care, professionalism, and surgical expertise are outstanding. He is also caring, attentive, and takes the time to explain everything thoroughly. I felt very confident in his care throughout both procedures and my recovery. It is truly a shame that the quality of his work is overshadowed by how the administrative side of this office operates. Specifically, I was scheduled for my second post operative visit on March 19. Less than 24 hours before my appointment, I received a call informing me that the referral I had originally provided on December 18, 2025, which was valid for six visits, was no longer acceptable due to an insurance policy change that had gone into effect on January 1. This was the first time this requirement had ever been communicated to me. What makes this especially concerning is that, since January, I had already attended a pre operative appointment, undergone surgery, and completed my first post operative visit. At no point during any of those interactions did anyone identify or communicate an issue with my referral. This was clearly something the office had multiple opportunities to catch and address proactively, yet it was only brought to my attention at the last possible moment, creating entirely avoidable stress. I immediately contacted my primary care physician, who promptly generated a new referral the following morning. Unfortunately, it was initially faxed to the wrong number, as the correct fax number is not clearly available. By the time I obtained the correct information, it was too late in the day for my doctor's office to resend it before my appointment. Despite this, I made every effort to come prepared. I accessed my insurance portal, located the referral along with the referral reference number, and printed it out to bring with me. At check in, I was informed that the referral ultimately needs to come directly from my doctor's office using a specific form, but that the printed page I brought would be added to my chart for the time being. I was also told that, given this was a post operative visit, I would still be seen. I appreciated that level of understanding and professionalism. Unfortunately, the experience at checkout was the complete opposite. The woman who handled checkout at my last visit was not only dismissive, but openly rude, cold, and condescending. From the start, her tone was sharp and unwelcoming. There was no attempt to listen, no effort to understand the situation, and absolutely no empathy. I calmly explained that the referral had already been generated, that I had proof through my insurance portal, and that my doctor's office would resend it the next day. Instead of responding professionally, she spoke down to me, repeated information in a patronizing way, and treated me as though I had done something wrong. The interaction felt accusatory, as if I were at fault or trying to bypass their process, which was both unfair and inappropriate. What is most frustrating is that this entire situation was the direct result of the office's failure to identify and communicate the updated referral requirement in a timely manner. This was not a patient error. This was an administrative oversight. Yet rather than acknowledging that, the way I was spoken to made it feel as though their mistake was being placed on me. To make matters worse, she went as far as to suggest that my surgery might not be covered because of this issue, which was both alarming, unprofessional and unnecessary. She also refused to schedule my follow up appointment, which is two months out, until the referral is received. The way this was handled made it feel as though I was being penalized for a situation that was not my fault. Instead of offering a solution or even tentative scheduling, it came across as rigid and punitive, adding to an already stressful experience. Overall, while the clinical care and surgical team are excellent, the administrative staff at check in and check out, who interact directly with patients, are not. The Carmel office in particular feels disorganized, poorly communicative, and, based on this experience, unprofessional in how patients are treated. Patients should not be placed in stressful situations due to administrative oversights, nor should they be spoken to in a dismissive or condescending manner, especially when they have made every effort to comply.
