My wife returned home from a Mediterranean trip with friends recently and one of her girlfriend's husband wanted to experience "bacalhau" or salted cod fish, a delicacy of Portuguese and Brazilian cuisine. Her girlfriend couldn't bring any "bacalhau" home, so, my wife promised to bring some when we visited them from San Diego. Well, a close friend who is part Portuguese, knew exactly where to get authentic "bacalhau" in North County: O Prego!!! Situated among furniture stores in San Marcos, this humble and lovely establishment has authentic Portuguese and Brazilian staples that you made need. Along with a coffee cafe and bakery, this is your one stop shop for all of your needs. On the weekends you will find also a sandwich shop offering delectable food and dessert. My wife tried also the "pastel de nata" or the iconic Portuguese egg custard tart, flaky and crisp layers, filled with a sweet creamy custard baked to perfection. She even commented that it tasted better than in Portugal!!! What a compliment!!! With 1 hour advance notice, O Prego can baked up a bunch for your party or gathering needs. With friendly and helpful service you will leave satisfied and happy from O Prego!!!

This great little market brings the tastes of Brazil & Portugal to San Diego county. Everyone is super friendly. Espresso & fresh pastries from the case you can sit & eat as well as imported products to take home. They have even more food available on weekends.

I've been following O Prego on social media for years, and on our way to a Portuguese festival in San Diego, I finally had the chance to stop by. Time was tight, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity -- and I'm so glad we made the stop! From the moment we walked in, João and his wife greeted us with the warmest "Bom dia!" and instantly made us feel at home. In the short 15-20 minutes we were there, I was able to grab a much-needed restroom break after a long drive, enjoy a delicious latte (galão), and pick up some treats to take with us -- two pastéis de nata, two quindim (my absolute favorite and not always easy to find), and two bolo de arroz. Since O Prego carries both Portuguese and Brazilian specialties, I had to try their coxinha -- it was really good! They also had an assortment of brigadeiros that looked incredible, but I'll have to save those for my next visit. The owners were incredibly generous and even sent us off with a bola de Berlim for the road. The shop itself has a great vibe -- cozy dining area, well-stocked shelves with Portuguese and Brazilian goods, and now they're serving lunch too. I can't wait to come back when I have more time to sit down, explore all the products, and enjoy a full meal. If you love authentic Portuguese and Brazilian food or just want to experience some genuine hospitality, O Prego is a must-visit!

Fantastic Portuguese market, with all sorts of authentic imports! The store is clean, great food and an amazing staff. I travel all the way from north Orange County just to restock on my Portuguese favorites here. Worth it the drive!

João and his wife Liza have curated such a beautiful place. The place is very welcoming, clean, and family owned. We recently discovered that they've opened up a new sandwich section, and it's incredible. The bread they use is the same one they sell in the freeze, freshly made in Portugal with no chemicals, no artificial ingredients, just clean and wholesome, exactly how food should be. We loved it so much that we came back the very next day. We also picked up some of their meats to cook at home, and the quality is outstanding, truly some of the best we've ever had. It's clear they put their heart into everything they do and that they really care about bringing high-quality ingredients to their customers. We stock up on so many goodies, when we're here. So much better quality than any regular store near by. Definitely shop here first for groceries before going to a grocery store, you won't regret it.

João Da Silva opened this year's ago but was effected by Covid. He has been getting everything back in order, opening the store front and now offering food! American coffee isn't good and if you have been to Europe you would know that. This place pretty much takes you to Lisbon/Porto with its variety of coffee (same machine/beans you would get in Europe) with a wife arrange of snacks and desserts to pair woth your coffee. He continues to expand the menu and is now making authentic dishes from Brazil and Portugal over the weekends (open-till they run out). It was authentic and very excited to have this near by. Come here for great coffee, friendly staff, authentic food, and groceries straight from Brazil/Portugal.

Great food, exceptional service and family feel. Brought me back to my childhood and time spent in Portugal. Such an amazing place. Place has a constant turnover of customers. They have meals, coffees and desserts. They also have a store on the side with traditional Portuguese foods and snacks. Second time coming here. It's my first stop flying in to the San Diego Area.

growing up in Boston with a Brazilian best friend, I've been DEEPLY craving some of the Brazilian snack foods that were so easily accessible in my youth. my husband was camping with our scouts near O Prego and agreed to make a little detour to satiate my cravings and I feel so lucky that he did! apparently he was browsing like a lost puppy and the owner came over to save him. He showed her my extensive list and she more than provided every item, plus suggested a couple things I actually had wanted to try and forgot to add to my list! I was so happy to have amazing coxinha that brought me right back to my childhood, the crispy exterior and creamy filling, with tender chicken and a hint of creamy cheese, as well as perfectly cheesy and flaky folhados, creamy bite size coconut brigadeiro, a super yummy queijado de coco - which tasted like a coconut-y custard, think almost flan/pudim consistency with a coconut base, and a few pasteis de nata (literally better than I had in Lisbon the last time I went!). She also suggested a bag of their frozen pao de queijo and BLESS HER for doing so because we've been air frying them over the last few days to savor and they are so good I could cry. Way better than the Americanized version you over pay for at the local markets in OC. everything was fresh, delicious, and made me feel homesick. I hope we can make a reason to be back in the area soon so I can shop the entire store and try some of their sandwiches!

Want to feel like you've taken a quick trip to Portugal? Immediately transport yourself to this wonderful cafe and market with the best Portuguese bites this side of the world. The owners are so welcoming, you will leave feeling like you've just spent a few moments with family. The market selection is wonderful. The food and coffee on weekends absolutely delicious. The gift shop has everything you need for a special moment (like my mom's birthday gift). My son asks to go back several times a week for the treats and just loves the friendly owners. Do yourself a favor and visit this hidden gem. Truly special home away from home! You'll love the feeling - ambiance is 10/10.

I highly recommend this restaurant; the food is delicious. They have a sandwich that's so good you can't eat just one! I also recommend the bread they sell to take home; it comes directly from Portugal. Everything is fresh. Besides the restaurant, they have a mini-market with products from Portugal and Brazil! The service is very friendly, and they are expanding their menu.

Delicious and authentic! Very friendly and helpful owners on site. Cute place on furniture row.

GREAT Brazilian/Portuguese market with super nice (and knowledgeable) owners! Went in for a $6 bag of Prosciutto flavored Ruffles and walked out $130 lighter! Bought some delicious Brazilian Linguica, some beautiful Picanha and some other items (Guarana Antarctica, Brazilian Cheese bread and more!). I will definitely be a regular here! So glad I found it!

The fresh lemon adds a bright acidity that balances the dish. * Gambas al Ajillo: Garlic shrimp treated very well. While the cook made them quite tender, the beef flavor was a bit off. I would recommend sticking to their phenomenal seafood instead. * Paella mixta: A classic presentation of saffron rice, chorizo, chicken, shrimp, and mussels. * Spanish creme brulee: A perfect finish. Cheeseburger with red onions (per request) Vegetarian burger with jalapeños I have to say, this was the best burger I've had in a very long time. The way they got the cheese toasted/formed on the bacon was incredible. Loved the spinach as alternative to the lettuce. My husband and I loved our burgers. Tonight, I chose to stick with that classic German tradition:: Jalapeño-plancha cheese and onion version. The brats are braised in Wild Barrel beer, at least they were when they are at Wild Barrel. Thr prior time I had a cheesey burger served patty melt style on toasted sourdough bread. Both the brat and the burger were excellent. They also offer as a side "loaded potatoes" which are cubed taters cooked on the flat top with the other principle food groups: onions, bacon and cheese. They are served with a ribbon of sour cream on top. Definitely worth the upsell add-on. Prices are super reasonable and all items are fully cooked to order and served hot from the grill. Great folks and good food. I'll definitely seek them out when looking for a brewery to spend a Sat night.

Mabel's has been on my list for a while I just hadn't made it in yet. The soft, intimate lighting and lively crowd pulled me in like a moth to a very chic flame. The hostess was warm and welcoming, and since the place was buzzing, we opted for the makeshift patio seating prime people watching territory. Inside, I noticed the layout has two distinct rooms, with one acting as a waiting area where guests can mingle and sip a drink before being seated. A nice touch if you enjoy a little pre-dinner social hour. Somewhere between scanning the menu and spotting all the seafood options, dessert quietly exited the chat. We decided to lean into the moment and see what the hype was about. After a quick chat with our waiter, we went with the octopus skewer and grilled swordfish. Now, fun fact I completely missed: it's a gin bar. This realization came after I confidently ordered a dirty martini like I knew what I was doing so I pivoted and reordered a glass of wine. Smooth recovery... mostly. The octopus was nicely cooked tender with a good char and the swordfish was... fine. Not bad, just not something I'll be dreaming about at 2 a.m. Overall, the dishes were executed well, but flavor-wise, they could've used a little more personality. A pinch of salt might've gone a long way. That said, I know their menu changes frequently, so I'd absolutely come back and give it another shot. And next time, I might actually stick to my original plan... you know, dessert.

Sevilla Valentine's Day Edition:…read more Pardon the delay, amigos! It's been a lengthy week! But I digress! You're here for the deets! Like every boyfriend who wants to show his adoration for his gorgeous girlfriend, I planned this event a few weeks ago. Commitment & dedication are key. Flamenco Show, 3 course dinner for two, AND dancing after?! Yeah, your amigo has it covered! This package is available on their website, and not only on Valentine's. But this day does make it more romantic! A minor 5-10 minute wait as we stepped out of our Uber to the front entrance of the club adjacent to the restaurant. Our lovely hostess greeted us & escorted us downstairs to pick our table. There were no specific table reservations, but all seats are good, as it's a small venue. The Love Gods smiled upon us and granted a table close to the front with an awesome view of the stage. Perfect table for the perfect date! Starters set the tone. What's this? A Welcome Charcuterie Platter?! It appears out of nowhere as our server takes our drink orders. The service here is impeccable! Impressive spread of cheesy, meaty goodness! The Shaved Jamón Serrano Ensalada Sevillana has a wonderfully zesty citrus vinaigrette that makes you clack your castanets! Ole!! Cocktails for the cute couple! A Oaxacan Flower for my Monterrey Mami! My gal loves her some mezcal! I opted for El Matador Margarita, because I know what I want...tequila! Plus the cucumber counts as healthy! I will die on this hill! The Main Course is the star of the show. And in full diva fashion, the Lobster Paella Valenciana stole the spotlight! A masterfully, monstrous mix of meat & seafood, all on top of some bomb-a** Saffron Bomba Rice! There's even a lobster tail in case you're still hungry! Queue the Flamenco show. The two dancers were elegant, the music was powerful, the singer sublime! Enjoy your dinner to a phenomenal 2 part show put on by very talented artists! We got to meet them after the show, as they personally thanked practically every guest! Elegant as their artform! Lest we forget the dessert! The Flourless Chocolate Cake was just the right amount of sweetness to cap off the dinner & show, as we shared our own sweet nothings. Love & Chocolate, a perfect combo, just like my beloved beauty & her humble narrator. As the performers were packing up & saying their final goodbyes, the staff was clearing the space for the last part of our adventure...dancing! A brief 15ish minute wait back outside & back inside we went! Got a great spot up front by the stage, but be aware the only sitting will be done by the VIP section. I believe it's bottle service only, but you can ask. We didn't, as we did not intend to sit at all! We boogied down, baby! The DJ did a great job keeping the vibe alive. Perfect ending to a perfect night. *Caveat - The dinner menu has other options & several a la carte items, if you so choose. Check their website for specific package info. You cannot go wrong. TL:DR - Never give up on love!

Pudim is the Portuguese term for condensed milk pudding served with caramel sauce. Spanish speaking countries call it flan. Quindim is a custard made with sugar, egg yolks, and ground coconut which is then presented as an upturned cup. Brigadeiro is a rolled mixture of condensed milk, butter, and cocoa powder. Their version has a pudim filling topped with chocolate sprinkles. Individual servings were sold as kits of three units (mini) or six units (regular). Family size portions were exactly as they sounded... large and pricey (more than $30 each). You schedule a pickup time between 5 and 9 pm on Monday through Saturday. The lady (Paula) will come to the curbside to deliver the order to your vehicle. I bought a mini kit of traditional pudim that I consumed over one week. The flan was very smooth and creamy while the caramel added extra sweetness. The only drawback was the $21 price for three small cups.

I LOVE flan so it's no surprise that it was love at first bite with It's Pudim. It was easy to place my order online. They have a short menu with different sizes/flavors. In addition to a variety of pudim flavors they have Brigadeirao and Quindim- both look really good and I hope to place another order to try them soon. It was easy to pick up my order - I got an email and was able to call when I arrived. Paula was so friendly and the box even had a personalized touch. For this order I got 6 individual pudim cups of different flavors- so delicious!

I was pleasantly surprised at their menu choises as there was so much food items to choose from. The food was delicious and definitely worth trying if you enjoy Brazilian cuisine. Some of the top menu items include the Picanha Steak Plate, chicken stroganoff, beef and cheese pastel. I got a few coxinhas to try and their Picanha steak plate was delicious. They also had this thin crust pie which to me was similar to a meat pie and it was quite tasty. I ordered way too much and got to take it all home. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the portions were satisfying. The meat pies heated up well the next day in the air fryer so next time I visit, I will order more to share with friends and family. The service was friendly and attentive throughout the visit. The staff took time to explain menu items as it was my first time and gave good suggestions. Overall, this is a great spot in Costa Mesa for authentic Brazilian street food, pastries, and coffee with good service and convenient parking.
