Best bartenders Best music Great tunes Hot dudes with beers Man I gotta say this place is like Cheers except I always thought Sam was a wuss for not knocking back a few. He was a weak relief pitcher, the bartenders here know how to drink and make drinks and there ain't no autistic mailmen or fat unemployed dudes with stupid wives around. There's no Fraiser sitting on a bar stool telling you how Oedipus wants you to have sex with my mom. Enough already - I gotta hit the John, by the way, one of the bartenders is named John and he'd kick Woody's hick ass. Also get I some mustard? Nah they sell mustard for a buck a pop! Come hang. I need someone to buy me a drink! Kidding! I have a job

The juke

I must disagree with the first reviewer (J.R.). First off, I actually liked Van Gough's as it was a true dive-bar in a neighborhood where the new flock of bars tends to caters to young professionals and hipsters. Lady's Night is creepy and wrong with a summary bull-dozing? Okaaay. It might be kind of lame but it's more of a sign of desperation to draw in clientele than anything else. But onto Oak and Iron... The decor is very tasteful, with dark-toned wood and furniture. The designers kept it simple, with a couple of flares and decorative designs that work well with the space (like the taxidermied pheasant and drift wood above the bar). That bar top itself is very fine. I'm also a fan of the booths which makes group drinking that much easier. The drink selection seems very well balanced, with a number of beers, wines and whiskeys (whiskys), including several Rye whiskeys which I was very pleased to see. Prices are reasonable. The music selection in the jukebox leans more toward the country/American traditional/folk with some Indie (Cash, Hank, Death by Murder, Rachel Brooke, Tim Easton, Modest Mouse), which is to be expected from the owners of Lady Jay's. This is made all the better since it is FREE. As the place was sparsely populated when I stopped in last night, I didn't experience any delays in hearing my selections played. Perhaps I had a different bartender but the fella who was manning the post when I was there was great. He was friendly and engaging and even allowed me to put on my iphone to play a few tracks I had mentioned to him. Perhaps the bartender could afford to be this way since there was only a handful of customers in the bar at the time. But I also feel it's worth pointing out to the first reviewer that taking care of drinks based off complexity during a busy period is totally accepted behavior for a bartender. If it's busy and I order three cocktails and then another guy orders a bottle of Bud, I sure as hell hope the barman would have enough sense to take care of the Bud first. In short, I'll def be back from the cool setup, whiskey and tunes.

This bar is A-OK. Nice bartender. Very easy going vibe. The playlist is Alex Chilton, the Animals, etc.

The music is at a low enough volume that you can hear your conversations, it doesn't get too crowded so you can spread out, even if you're in a large group. Downstairs, it's a lot tighter, with a DJ, dance floor, lounge seating area, and a much more packed and busy atmosphere on the weekends. I like ping ponging between both vibes when I'm with friends. Admittedly I've found the music both times to be too experimental for me. Confessing that makes me feel like an old person shaking my fist or at least shaking my head, misunderstanding what makes the youth tick. But I had no trouble twirling around the dance floor to this weird experimental music after throwing back a few tequila sodas upstairs. A few times while here my friends have split up into the group that wants to go downstairs to dance and the group that wants to stay upstairs and chill. It's relatively easy to navigate between both vibes, which I enjoy about this spot very much.

Came here on a quiet weeknight by a total mistake!…read more We came to grab some drinks at the rooftop bar and catch the sunset and gorgeous views. When we saw "Water Tower" on the elevator we decided to press it. SO GLAD WE DID. We landed at the Water Tower and walked into a fairly empty space decorated with art all the way to the ceiling, filled with natural light coming in and the views of the skyline were out of this world. We had to try their drinks of course to enjoy with the incredible view. Though the drinks are $21 and served in a plastic cup that evening, I was NOT expecting my drink to be this insanely delicious. I ordered the inferno Paloma which they infuse themselves with- and it was true perfection. By the way, each bar has their own menu which is pretty awesome and makes it even more fun. Also, Axel is the most incredible bartender and we absolutely loved his creations. Later that night we ordered a custom mandarin margarita, with a spicy twist, and WOW. He's truly talented and absolutely made us some awesome drinks that we can't stop talking about. Sunset with a view and a spicy mezcal drink? Yes and YES. We had this place all to ourselves and can't wait to be back. Friday nights they have DJ nights and you can also book the Water Tower for your own private events which is pretty cool!

Watching soccer, pretending as if I had been looking forward to Germany playing Curaçao for weeks. The occasional glance at the Chrysler building across the East River. As I worked my way through my beers, the amazing bartender perfectly timing my refills, I felt as if this may be my new place. My "get away from all the noise" safe haven. That was until I was halfway through beer three. It all got dark. I mean it literally got dark. A waitress began pulling down all the blinds, taking away the sun haven I had found myself loving. Taking away the joy I had worked so hard to achieve. That is when I knew that that beer would be my last. I did not come to a bar with a wall of windows to end up in a place darker than the Rikers Island cells mere miles away. So I ask this one question to the waitress, why? Why ruin the joy of light? Why ruin it?

I also loved that the octopus came cut up into bite-sized pieces. The desserts were also stellar. We shared the chocolate cake and the special ice cream. The non-alcoholic espresso martini was also delicious! I will definitely be getting that if we go back. I would absolutely recommend Bar Blondeau for a date night or fancy night out with friends.

It came out as two huge slices of sourdough stacked so high that I couldn't even finish one. For something that expensive, there should absolutely be some indication of portion size, or at minimum the waiter should mention it when ordering. Avocado toast also isn't exactly something you can box up and save for later, so a lot of it just went to waste. Honestly, the menu feels arrogantly overpriced, what avocado toast dish is pushing $30? The only thing that seemed reasonably priced was the $35 bottomless brunch. Overall, the pricing felt excessive and the lack of transparency made the experience frustrating.

The Sweet Potato Beignets with hot honey & parmesan were definitely interesting--sweet, savory, and a bit unexpected. Not my favorite item of the night, but still worth trying if you like unique flavor combos. The BK Sliders (3 pc) were solid: thick applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, Russian dressing, and pickle on mini brioche buns. Simple, satisfying, and nicely done. The real standout though was the Calamari with shichimi pepper, jalapeño, lime zest, and herbal dipping sauce--absolutely amazing. Crispy, flavorful, and the seasoning had just the right kick. I've never ate here, but I recommend grabbing drinks during the summer months when they open the canopy. It's a nice rooftop feel. However, I went on a fall Saturday night and the place was completely empty. I walked upstairs and even wondered if the bar was open due to a chair blocking the entrance. If I didn't ask the waiter if they were open, I would assume they were closed and would've left. If it was near closing hours, I would understand, but it was 2 hours prior to it. It is too bad Yelp doesn't allow half stars as I would honestly put this one at a 3.5 and am rounding up. While the quality of the elevated seafood bites is immaculate, they are just that: a bite or two of food, for an elevated price considering the amount of food you get. After spending $76 a person, we were still hungry, whereas that amount would have been enough to feed two average women at another good restaurant. But if you go with an expense account or trust fund baby, definitely get the scallops and the yellowtail pastrami because those two items will blow your mind. Our waitress pointed these two out to us and we're grateful for her guidance because it was spot on. Paying for bread at a Solomonov joint is odd. No dessert menu is odder. Wheelchair access details: The bar is on a terrace. The accessible entrance is through the Hoxton hotel. A staff member will take you through the k'far kitchen and up via a service elevator. No barriers once you are upstairs and plenty of accessible outdoor and indoor/outdoor options, including a small length of wheelchair height bar. A perfectly functional though unexciting wheelchair accessible restroom is available.
