Oak Room is a pretty standard cocktail bar with an interesting interior and location, but a really strange layout. I went on a Friday night at around 11pm and the front of Oak Room was pretty desolate. When we walked around the corner there was another room and bar (an almost exact mirror of the front room) that was more populated, but there were no seats left and no room to stand with all of the space the bar and tables took up. It felt like the front half of Oak Room was totally disconnected from the back. The energy in the back was missing from the front, even though the front had the DJ. The music that the DJ played was alright, but I think it needed to be more lively in order to make the night more fun for the customers. We sat at the bar and talked to the bar tender, who recommended drinks to us. I thought that the licorice infused gin drink I had was good, but needed another element to make it a really great cocktail.
The interior of Oak Room is decorated really well, and perhaps I just went there on a quiet night. I might try out Oak Room in the summer, because the location makes it a perfect place to move from outside to inside when you're ready for another drink. There is a good amount of seating for medium-large groups (there's a prime couch area located in the front room next to a fireplace with enough seats for about 8 people). read more
