My brother and I moved to Campo a little over a year ago and have gone to Oak Shores almost every weekend or so and every single time the food has been phenomenal and the service even better. I am hiking the PCT and I was hungry... man. Did I come to the right place. I don't talk prices, most of the time - when it comes to food, I barely look at prices. This is about being satiated. I came hungry and left satisfied but slightly angry that I couldn't try more things, lol. MY ORDER: Chicken tenders and fries... and THE BONUS ROUND: I also picked up a bag of Lays classic chips, Hostess Donettes and a PayDay King size candy bar. Oddly enough, I didn't try a malt, but hold on cowboys... I haven't left yet. Okay... I bought a vanilla malt too, lol. What kind of a reviewer would I be if I didn't? I am an obsessed foodie and when it comes to malts I like a super thick malt. Lesser milk than a shake,.a lot of ice cream and a seriously potent malt flavoring. The best to me is the straight malt from the YELLOW Ovaltine container (no cocoa product used). The Carnation malt is pretty weak. I am sure there are others. I am not sure what they used though. It was tasty, served up fast, but it just was.not what I expected in both consistancy and flavor. Definitely didn't detract from my 5 star rating. Oh and the resupply food items for backpackers is amazing. Oh and they even had Leukotape and fuel canisters. Bravo! Running the place were Frank and Valerie and they couldn't have been nicer folks. And the people of the area shppping this store are so kind and friendly. One lady even gave me a sample of a powdered drink mix she likes. read more

Highly disappointed in tonight's service from a place that normally would get a 5 star rating from me. When Fadi and Fahad are there 5 star all the way. Came in to get a malt at 7:59. The cook askedno if I had an order, and I told her I wanted ice cream. She went back to finish cooking a previous order. While I was waiting, the cashier came quickly walking over to the cook and said the kitchen was closed because it was 8. She didn't say a word to me. She left and returned a few minutes minutes later, walked past me, and told the cook it was 8:03 so the kitchen was closed. She turned off the light in the ice cream freezer on her way out; again not saying a word to me. I waited because I was there before 8. About 2 minutes later, as the cook was packing up the previous order, she told me the kitchen was closed. Would never had imagined being treated this way at a local, small village malt shop that is very supported by the community and had previously provided good service. Store was Clean and had a great selection of groceries and beverages. Acquaint little Country store next to to the lake, which is convenient for the campers .novelty items for sale as well. They have a deli with good sandwich sandwiches. read more

Tried to get a refund. Cashier didn't know how to do a refund. Charged me twice. Was told to leave and come back to get my refund when the manager was on site. Why would the manager leave the restaurant with an employee who can't operate the cash register. By the time I was able to eat the food I ordered it was cold and mushy and gross. This is a nice little store next to Lake Morena with an amazing deli/cafe inside. The food is some of the best East County has to offer, and I highly recommend their sandwiches and burgers. The owners are nice folks and the locals they have working here are friendly and fast. I have had a shake here, and i will go ahead and recommend that, too. I'd say this is a must-visit place if you're at the Lake for camping, fishing or hiking, or if you've hit the Sierra Nevada Trail. The store side of the shop has an extensive camping supplies section, too. read more

The Club Sandwich (fries included) and BBQ chicken pizza were absolutely amazing. We were famished from our 20 mile hike on the PCT and got into town just in time before they closed. The lady who took our order was delightful and was a sight for sore eyes after the rough first day. Luckily the full tummies kept us warm and cozy since our sleeping bags and tent almost let us freeze to death. That's what I get for letting my lady buy all the gear for our hike. She bought 3 season bags and a 3 season tent. Guess what?! None of those seasons were winter. I digress. The Oak Shore's Malt Shop is the closest store to Lake Morena. It is more than a malt shop and a large convenience store put together. I was really interested in trying their malts-few places still make real malts so this would be a real treat. The restaurant menu is pretty extensive with breakfast, lunch and dinner items and pizza. They also have ice cream, milk shakes and malts. The convenience store has a huge amount of beer, wine, and from the huge display-every liquor known to man. It gives me a hint that there's a lot of partying going on at Lake Morena. They also have some fishing supplies, worms and bait. There also have all the other normal convenience store items-everything locals or campers could need without having to drive to a grocery store. This is a real handy place to stop to get things you forget on your way to the lake. The thing that surprised me-beyond how much they carried-is that the prices were decent. Some places in out of the way places gouge you on everything. Oak Shore's had good prices that make you happy to stop in for a supply or a meal. Next time, I'm getting that malt! read more

I like this place. The staff is friendly and it's clean. It's a convenience store as well so you get the best of both worlds. The food is pretty good, pizza too. It all seems homemade which is nice. I'm giving 4 stars cuz the cooks and cashiers are always very nice but some of the customers are obnoxious and roudy and they won't kick them out or tell them to be quiet. It's kind of hard to enjoy a meal when someone is screaming next to you. read more

Went there to resupply and have lunch last week during our PCT hike. We heard that their mushroom Swiss burger is very good, and also ordered a blueberry cheesecake milkshake. We also bought some energy bars and sausages (kinda overpriced) for resupply. The burger and milk shake tasted indeed nice and we got some takeout sandwiches as well. read more

This place is seriously the bomb! My husband and I were camping in Lake Morena and someone told us they had great shakes so we came here and I had the mint and chip shake and he had the strawberry. First of all they have Thirfty Ice Cream which is the same ive cream they have at Rite Aid. Second of all, we also ordered the Buffalo chicken fries while we were there becasue we were still hungry and they didn't disappoint! We considered the hamburger and French fries deal for $8.99 but decided on the fries instead. Later we came back for batteries to blow up our air mattress since it is also a convenience store. The following day we came back for the 2 topping pizza, a salad, and a 2 liter special for $17.99. We chose the pepperoni and bell pepper pizza. The crust was great! They gave us 3 sides of ranch for the salad and pizza. The salad was nothing special, just iceberg lettuce, some tomatoes, black olives, red onions, cucumbers, and mozzarella cheese but it was still good!!! I highly recommend checking out this place if you are in the Lake Morena or Campo area. A good break from all the hornets at the campground trying to get your food!! read more

We stopped here after a long hike and enjoyed a terrific cheeseburger, fries, and malt. We told the sever we were going to split the burger and she graciously served us our meal already cut and on separate plates. Excellent service and great food. I am giving Oak Shores Malt Shop 4 stars purely for the entertainment value. The food was meh, but the people were very entertaining. Oak Shores Malt Shop is more of a liquor store that happens to serve food. From what I can tell, this seems to be the happening spot for locals. Whomever owns he place is sitting on a gold mine. When we arrived, a few of the locals were sitting out front sharing stories of life and strife. One guy was feverishly scratching lottery tickets. While another took it upon himself to sweep the front area of the store. We were there for probably about 45 minutes and the guy with the lottery tickets must have scratched off 10 tickets. He kept getting upset when he would lose. lol Then, there was another guy that showed up and started scratching lottery tickets as well. Except, this guy had the nerve to ask the cashier if he would "spot" him a lottery ticket because the cashier knew "he was good for it". lol Needless to say, the cashier said no. The only distraction was when two young ladies, who appeared to be locals, walked in to buy some stuff. That was the only time the two lottery ticket guys stopped what they were doing. lol I think the crossroads of Campo meet at Oak Shores. lol read more

I have to be completely honest. the customer service from the person cooking or making the food was not the nicest. I walked in and it immediately seemed like she hated me. the buffalo chicken fries were the worst I had ever tasted and I quite honestly feel bad. I DONT ever have many complaints on places but I have been here twice to order the fries and both times were not pleasant. The shop itself is fine and as well as the guy behind the counter actually made me feel like I was no bother but the lady made me feel like I did something so horrible to her and that she despised me simply for walking in.I gave the rest to my dog and he wouldn't even give them another taste he does not like them. read more
