I was with both twins @ Oak St Medical, & loved them both. 1 was Allergist, the other, Primary Care. I enjoyed the time with them, & looked forward to being their patient for good. However, there was a misunderstanding. I had severe headaches & dizziness, & both doctors suggested I get an MRI. I asked how to do this, bc I was new to Lane County, & both told me to go to ER to do so. And, I did. I thought I did the correct thing, but obviously, I made a big error. Hospital found a meningioma behind the right occipital lobe in my brain, with very slight brain bleed. It scared me. When I returned in a few days after the diagnosis, both Allergist & Primary Care fired me as a patient. I'd gone to see my Allergist, Kraig, & he was having issues w/home health w/his wife who was suffering from MS. He wasn't in a pleasant mood, & neither was his assistant, who made my visit a very sour one, as she was belligerent/ (this was around 2010). To this day, I don't understand what I did or didn't do. I felt so sad, bc I really liked my care @ Oak St. Medical! Above all, I loved both my doctors. I'd recommend them both to anyone, even though I was asked not to come back after my diagnosis. read more

Front desk ladies are rude, on a complete power trip. Making fun of me, refusing to listen to me and talking over me. Doctors are constantly leaving this place and you have to get a new one. I get called all the time to reschedule my appointment - once even on my way to an appointment once. read more

I was with Oak Street Medical for a little under 10 years. I found it difficult to get to see my provider on anything but a long term scheduled appointment, meaning that if I needed to see someone earlier than a week out I would usually end up at urgent care. I found myself at urgent care for things like acute sinus infections and gout attacks because it was impossible to see someone at OSM without several days notice. They also failed to mention critical changes in routine test results. It was only after I changed medical providers that I personally reviewed lab results, and found that some lab results were out of normal limits for several years without it ever being mentioned to me. When my new provider reviewed those results he immediately scheduled me for further procedures to check on these abnormalities. My new doctor immediately addressed 3 major conditions that had been glossed over by my provider at OSM. I was put on 3 new medications that immediately relieved me of some quite nasty and uncomfortable conditions. I'm now with a doctor who runs a concierge medical service. The difference is astounding. I get responses to my communications in anywhere from a few seconds to perhaps 4 hours at most. I can often be seen the same day. read more

I have been a patient at Oak Street Medical for 25+ years and the care has been phenomenal. I have lost count of the number of friends and family I have recommended to OSM; as many of those folks have recommended OSM to their own friends and family, I have to believe they are having similar positive experiences. Have things changed over the last quarter century? Absolutely. *Healthcare* has changed dramatically - not for the better in many regards - but OSM has weathered those changes far, far better than any other health care provider I have encountered or heard of. The occasional frustrations I encounter are symptomatic of the healthcare landscape, not of OSM or their professionals or staff. Does it take longer to get a reply than in the "good old days"? Sometimes. Longer wait for an appointment? Maybe...Have I ever encountered staff that seem like they're having a hard day? Sure... and I can totally relate. In my job it takes longer to get answers for people than it did "in the good old days", solutions aren't always ideal and sometimes I am having a day and am not 100%... More than ever, I have to be proactive in my care, and an active participant in my health and wellbeing; everyone at OSM consistently meets me more than halfway and continue to be excellent partners in helping me be well. Healthcare is a grind and frankly I don't know how Oak Street Medical serves so many community members as well as they do, but I am extremely grateful to have them in my corner. read more

I have had no problems with office staff and the care I have received has been excellent. Shortly after my initial visit I had a medical problem of unknown origin but the staff was concerned and the cause was found. I am sorry the on-site lab was closed. I believe it is because they have become part of a medical group. I guess the insurance industry has made independent medical practices obsolete. read more

I recently moved to Eugene, and was having absolutely no luck in finding a primary care physician (PCP). Finally, someone pointed me to Oak Street Medical, where I was able to have Ed Valenzuela, PA-C be my PCP. They're definitely busy. I was confirmed as a new patient in November, but wasn't able to get in for my new patient onboarding until January. I chose not to dock them a star for that since this was the only place (after calling around for 3 weeks) that had openings at all. (One place told me the wait was 12-18 months for new patients!) The check in process was relatively painless. A couple days before my appointment I received an email to check in and was given the option to fill out all the paperwork ahead of time so that I wouldn't have to wait in the office as long. Day of (don't forget a mask! Or if you forgot you can ask for one from the front desk), I checked in at the front desk, where they scanned my ID and insurance card, then I sat to wait for about 5 minutes. The nurse (Karen) was nice and got me through the standard medical checks quickly and efficiently. My interactions with Ed were great. He has a warm personality and is very thorough in his questioning, which put me at ease. It's clear that he's highly proficient, which, if I'm honest, was a mild concern in picking a PA as my PCP instead of an MD or a DO. After meeting and interacting with him about my concerns, I'm satisfied with my choice and confident that I'm going to be well taken care of. Oak Street has it's own lab in house, which is really convenient. The fact that there's no need to go hunting around for a medical lab that's in network is a huge benefit. read more

I got to go over to Oak Street medical for some lab work, so they can start figuring out what's going on with my constantly itching skin. The lab tech who handled my lab work was a very nice and sweet fella, and he did a good job. We got to share about our love of cats and shoes. Not bad for an early morning appointment that required lab work. I never thought that an allergy clinic would have a next door office for labs. Pretty nice and convenient. read more

I like the providers at Oak Street, but trying to communicate with them outside of an office visit is an exercise in frustration. The patient portal is slow, hard to navigate, and has some kind of bug that prevents me from logging in about 50% of the time. But even when I am able to log in and leave a message for a provider, it takes an unacceptably long time to get a response. It's even worse if I leave a voicemail - those often go entirely unanswered. My pharmacist has even told me that he's heard nothing back from Oak Street after multiple attempts to authorize a prescription refill. On more than one occasion, this lack of responsiveness has led me to go without critical medication for days. Really unacceptable. It's worth noting that Jeannie Merrick and her team are wonderful exceptions to this pattern - they are routinely responsive and provide exemplary care. Because of them, I'll stay at Oak Street for my women's care needs, but due to the ongoing communication issues elsewhere in the practice, I recently switched to OMG for primary care. And I have no regrets about the change - they are super responsive and their patient portal is amazing. read more

Avoid doctor zamora. Terrible doctor that brings her beliefs into her medical practices. Your beliefs don't belong in medicine. She doesn't practice medicine based on medical science. She has old debunked beliefs about endocrinology and is unwilling to accepted current medical literature. She is very arrogant. I left her office because she refused to treat me. Some years later I called oak street medical to see someone for allergies. I didn't know Oak Street Medical was affiliated with her at endocrinology. The staff is available & responsive in scheduling & confirming my appointments, answering questions and assisting when I come in. They have a broad range of highly competent medical providers that take the time to assess, listen and give excellent medical care. I have worked with different ones in the years I've been there. I'm working with a new addition, Dr. Milgram and I feel very lucky with her care. It's a pleasant and clean setting and the parking is easy. They have the patient portal that I easily access and direct questions to my provider. They quickly come back with answers. I'm writing this review because of frustration regarding Oak Street Medical's telephone system which is the first-front of a business. Their telephone system is one of the worse I have encountered at a doctor's office. It is so frustrating that it seems easier to go there personally to get answers to my questions or to make a doctor's appointment. On different occasions, as requested by the automated voice, I've left messages for a call back, only to never received a call back in return; I've tried to schedule appointments and have been informed by, again, another automated voice that the scheduling mail box was full, therefore, is not taking any more calls. My only solution is to continue calling until I finally get a live person. If I were someone looking for a new physician, this first introduction would make me question the reliability of this office and doctors. Please note that this review does not reflect the doctors, nurses or reception staff. I am very pleased with my doctor, the nurses and assistants I've encountered. I am only referencing this review to their telephone system which certainly could be updated and more efficient. This an important first-front of any business and reflects an important part of their business. My reason for voicing my experience is that I hope this review is taken into consideration by Oak Street Medical office in Eugene, OR, to look into the situation and to do something about it. Be careful if you complain. They may just drop you as a patient. Made an appointment with a visiting doctor for a knee injury. The provider that saw me was rude dismissive and unprofessional. Told me if I had torn my ACL on my knee will be full of blood and swollen. Refused to give me a note or any imaging. Wrote in my chart that I had basically videotape myself falling even though I had security footage from my house. As I left he practically pushed me out the door told me to hurry up and I told him I was injured he said my exaggeration was too much. My MRI proved I had a complete ACL tear and he actually put me in more danger by rushing .. When I complained the reaction was to drop me as a patient before even talking to me about it even though they had messaged and said someone would call me. I would not recommend this place they don't really care about you. read more

The most important aspect of primary care is the quality of the physicians, and although no one I've seen since Dr. Stout invests half as much time or effort towards my wellness, I remain reasonably pleased with the doctors. The rest of the staff is hit-or-miss, and the misses are often way off target. Another reviewer wrote, "the office staff is rude and trying to schedule an appointment is like negotiating with Russia," which perfectly captures my experiences as well. I'm a reasonably patient patient but when it takes you far longer to schedule an appointment than the doctor spends with you at the appointment, you know you are encountering broken business process. Dealing with office staff who snap at you when you dare to suggest that you'd like an appointment sometime in the next week because your injury is acute and not chronic is the icing on a bloody sundae. I'm torn, because I really like my doctor but the way OSM does business prevents me from getting the care I need, even though I am a low-maintenance patient who only visits a couple of times per year. I'm looking around for another practice. It feels as though OSM won't care when I leave, and of course that's much of the problem. read more

I have been a patient of Dr.Jacobson's here for over 27 years and my extended family are patients. I was unable to get into see Dr.Jacobson and agreed to see Dr.Snieder. I completed my online check-in ahead of time, but arrived 5 mins late to my appointment because I hit traffic and road construction. At check-in I was told that that Dr.Snieder doesn't see patients who arrive late. The receptionist then proceeded to waste the next 30 minutes emailing back and forth with medical staff to try and decide whether to allow me to be seen. The staff was self righteous, as if they have never been a few minutes late for an appointment. I took the morning off of work for this appointment so not only did it cost me time and money, but I still have not received care and am not feeling well. I understand that I was late, but it seems unreasonable to cancel anyone's appointment if they are less than 10 minutes late. Unfortunately I will be looking for a new provider's office that is a little more reasonable, understanding and compassionate. They put a pay wall in your face and if you can't pay your ridiculously expensive bill on the spot, you can't check in online for your next appointment. I previously read that they go through doctors at a high rate and I can now see why. Take your money elsewhere, do not fund these thieves any longer. My encounter with Dr. Jenny Bohrman as a primary care provider was above and beyond. The staff were excellent. Dr. Bohrman listened to my needs and partnered with me create a plan for optimal health. This place was really good and I miss Dr. Stout. Ever since he left the place has really gone down hill. First Dr. Stouts replacement was "let go," essentially fired and should have been investigated criminally. Secondly the office staff is rude and trying to schedule an appointment is like negotiating with Russia. For some reason they seem to think I can predict when I'll get sick and schedule an appointment in advance. Sorry folks I can't. I call when I'm sick and can't manage my health to the point I need professional assistance, such as my primary care physician. Waiting for the next day isn't really an option for me. The "new" phone system designed to help the patient's experience is horrible. Historically you could call, go through the menu option and immediately select to talk with someone about making an appointment with your PMP. Now with the "new" system an actual person eventually answers only to ask you what u need. When you ask to be transferred to scheduling they insist on knowing for what. Does it really matter? Are there certain things my doctor won't treat me for? How about I don't want to tell you. Or how about patient confidentiality (HIPA) and a need to know. I get the actual person who handles the scheduling needs to know so they can allocate an accurate amount of time for the appointment based on the patients' needs but not everyone else. The doctors are great but the support staff and office dynamics are horrible. read more

I agree the receptionists are not always the best. Dr. Jacobson is the only pcp I will see as long as he is in practice. He and his brother kept my mother alive far longer than anyone expected when she was diagnosed with Hodgkins. He has helped me with some very complicated diagnoses and put in a lot of time and effort. He has a great personality and gives you all of his attention. read more

I went to see a doctor for the first time in over 10 years and I found my doctor here to be very thorough and concerned, wanting to check up on everything that she found. The bloodwork is done on-site, and my doctor actually called me after my results were mailed to me to follow up and explain what they meant. In the name of thoroughness I was made to have an appointment with a specialist for some other tests, which turned out great, and made me feel a lot better about a lot of things. I see all the other complaints here about the receptionists, but I didn't find any of that to be true. When I went in for the first time and had to fill out the new patient forms, I found the people at the front desk helpful and kind. I had a great experience from the time that I walked in to the time that I left and I'm confident that that will happen the next time that I go in there as well. Nurses, doctors, and people working in the lab doing blood-work were all friendly, and efficient. I recommend this office. read more

After being referred by someone who lives in Eugene, I stopped in to see it, looked ok, (I am new to Oregon), But after further investigation and reading reviews here, I did due diligence and researched all the medical personnel at the office via the Oregon Medical Board. One of the physicians assistants has quite a few different malpractice suits on his record. My husband has Kirk Jacobson for his PCP. He is undoubtedly the most caring compassionate doctor on this planet. Oak street medical staff are always polite and courteous. One nurse in particular is Karen. Shes the care coordinator and she's such a sweetheart. My husband has very complex health issues and sometimes as his caregiver I get overwhelmed. I speak with Karen quite regularly and she always takes her time to answer my questions and help me with whatever is going on at that time. If it weren't for her I seriously don't think I could handle the things I have to do to keep my husband safe, healthy and able to stay out of a long term care facility. Oak street medical somehow has the ability to make you feel welcome and at ease. I would highly recommend this place and any of the doctors that work there. I've been a patient here for years. First I saw Dr. Jinnah, who was awesome, but I switched over to Dr. Stout when Jinnah left the practice and I was happy with Stout. Now, Stout has retired and I'm stuck with Gilchrist. I was totally satisfied with this practice up until the recent switch. It takes forever to get in to see Gilchrist, he's definitely lacking in bedside manner, and he seems to have trouble getting my prescription refills correct. How hard is it to look at what Dr. Stout did and do the same thing? I send in for refills, they're denied with no explanation. I have to call and leave a message, then send in the refill again. The refill is filled, but with the wrong amount, or they send it to the wrong pharmacy. My calls are never returned, so I can't actually explain to a real person what the issue is. read more

This used to be a good medical office, but with the recent change in ownership to Praxis Medical Group most of the good doctors have left. My new doctor misdiagnosed me twice, refused to refer me to a specialist, and had a wait and see attitude about a condition that could easily have been reversed with preventative care. When I asked why she refused to refer me to a specialist I got back a letter saying I was being dismissed from the practice. Two administrators couldn't be bothered with returning my phone calls or emails. So I guess this would be a place where if everything goes well you might like it, but if there is ever an issue nobody cares. read more

Been a patient here through parts of three decades and many primary care doc changes and bizarre medical issues ranging from weird and irritating to truly life-threatening, and I have always been happy with the care I've received. I have never had the front office staff treat me rudely, but I have seen the women who work the front desk deal with tons of rudeness from patients - once so badly that I though I might have to intercede or call the police. I get that people are probably at the doc's office in the first place because they're feeling bad, and I know from experience that sometimes doc's don't offer us the optimistic answers we seek. Also, it's a pretty small practice and a couple of doc's being out sick or called over to one of the hospitals or just dealing with patients with unexpectedly complicated medical issues can lead to long waits for the rest of us, but that's life. Maybe before we complain about the kind of care we're getting, we ought to check what kind of patient we're being. I don't care if it's your mechanic, your contractor or whatever, you get better work out of people if you treat them well, and doctors and their support team members are people. read more

So what really does a 'five-star' rating mean? Glad I am sick so I can go to OSM!? OR I have some age and life style choices that require medical attention?! I've tried OSM and found some very good Doctors, nurses and most important ancillary staff?! ANSWER: YES to all! Moved here from the coast - yes people do do that - and needed a Dr for me and my bride ( of 4o+ years which I think has broken her ) and we both found exactly what and who we needed in one place. I'd recommend OSM but I'd prefer that they didn't get overly busy..... just sayin' Give them a call as a retired FD MedTech I find Oak Street Medical to be a great bunch of caring people. I see some complaints and I wonder if some were from the people I observed (twice in 5 years) complaining about the way things are supposed to happen -- well complain to the insurance people and the government...that's were problems come from. The staff - due to the "LitigationCrazy" environment out there - have to do things the way they do to avoid suits. Aside from that, great 'care for all' should be OSM's motto..... read more

After what I perceived as a successful physical with Dr. Jessica Lohff-Phillips, I had a blood test at her request. After I had my labs sent to her I received a letter telling me that Oak Street Medical would no longer serve me. THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION why they had "fired" me. Two calls to the office went unanswered, a letter to Dr.Lohff-Phillips went unanswered, and a Letter to Dr. Kirk Jacobsen (a senior Dr. In the practice) also went unanswered. As you can imagine I was completely distressed, upset, angry, and completely baffled by Dr. Lohff-Phillips dismissal of me. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNETHICAL. read more

Being a patient @ Oak St. Medical, both Allergy Assoc. & medical for 7 years, I am glad to finally leave this group behind me forever. Most of the Nursing staff is awesome, so are the receptionists, but a 3 of the several physicians there are rude, inept, uncaring to disabled people, such as myself. There have been barely any tests in that period of time, also practically no imaging for Rheumatoid, Fibromyalgia, blown discs, osteoporosis, osteopenia, & enlarged bone spur in my neck. A few medical staff members (nursing) almost pushed me well over the edge & they did not care that I am already on the edge (PTSD), also a lot of excruciating pain. They almost pushed me to the point that I wanted to end it all. This is the WORST medical office I have ever been to & I am GLAD that I got myself another doctor.....a REAL ONE! Also, the nurses @ my new physician's office are "professional", unlike Oak St. Medical! Ta! Ta! read more
