I attended Oakdale Christan Academy as a Student for 2 years. I am very grateful for my time there and the positive impact that the school had on me. This was the place where I came to know Jesus as my lord and savior. The Staff and faculty are very supportive, caring, and committed to helping students grow both academically and spiritually. Oakdale provided a welcoming environment, a great sense of community, and valuable experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life. I don't know who I would be had I not attended Oakdale. I would also like to add that while I did struggle at times at Oakdale, the teachers and students really poured into me and they will walk alongside you in your everyday life because they love you like family and that's what Oakdale Christian Academy is, Family. Our family has been part of Oakdale Christian Academy since 2016, and we couldn't be more grateful. All three of our children have grown here, our oldest graduated in 2022, our daughter in 2024 (top of her class), and our youngest is now a senior excelling academically, spiritually, and athletically. The teachers and staff truly invest in their students. Our kids took dual-enrollment courses, were well prepared for college, and have been challenged to grow both in faith and academics. Like any school, Oakdale isn't perfect, but its commitment to Christ-centered education and student success is clear. I lived and worked at Oakdale for 14 years. I raised four of my own children there. Two of them were old enough to be students at Oakdale. Oakdale provides wonderful opportunities for students and families looking for academic, personal, and emotional growth. It is a place where relationships can flourish, and students can experience so much goodness, make life-long friends, learn to love learning, and grow to be curious, kind, and connected. Anyone who has been a part of any community - certainly a school - knows there are limits to the service any one place can provide. When a student comes to Oakdale and ends up not being a good fit (for any reason), this is painful to students, their families, and the staff at Oakdale. It is understandable families would feel angry, and they certainly have the right to express this. However, there are always multiple sides to a story. If you are a student (or have a student) who needs a new place to grow and thrive, I encourage you to check out Oakdale for yourself and carefully discern whether it might be the next best step for you. My own children benefitted greatly from all they learned from the staff (and other students) at Oakdale. The academic preparedness and character development they gained have taken them far. Both are through college (and one through graduate school). Approximately 8 years ago we made the decision to remove our children from mainstream public school and search for an alternative to feed their hearts, minds and souls. We were sick of the worldly messages being drilled into our kids heads and the complete take over that the internet, social media and constant cell phone activity that prevents clear educated thinking and love of God. We were so blessed to find Oakdale Christian Academy. From day one we embarked on a journey with the staff where they truly co-parented with us every step of the way. Their 24/7 dedication to their needs was unparalleled. We even went through the pandemic with them and every decision they made was based on careful consideration and prayer. They never abandoned the kids or their education throughout that time. We were also pleased by the "no cell phone" policy. Our children did not have to deal with the constant distraction of having World Wide access to the web and harmful social media content at the tips of their fingers all day. Three of our children were blessed to graduate from Oakdale, leaving well educated, closer to the Lord and ready for the next season in their lives. As you can imagine all teenagers go through adolescence in different ways. Oakdale walked along side each of them and served their emotional and spiritual needs. As I write this review I cry tears of sadness and an overwhelming lack of respect for those who have a lack of love for children who need love and support. When our child first attended this school, things seemed to have been wonderful. With the recent change in leadership, there has been a shift in the mission and structure. The dorm supervision has been compromised by understaffing and lack of supervision, allowing the kids to run wild. There is NO parent communication unless there is a significant problem leading to them wanting a break from your child . Response to emails is rare and there is no parent partnership. The school is overwhelmed and severely understaffed. This school advertises that they work from a spiritual perspective; but my recent experience is anything but. My heart is saddened by the way they have handled things and have dismissed our child's special-needs and has unfairly and inequitably treated her with disregard. Had there been any partnership and brainstorming, my child might not have been inequitably tossed to the side and deemed undesirable only adding to her low self esteem. When they decided they couldn't handle my child's needs, they blatantly lied to her about the reasons and did not even assist her in packing. She's only 13. They left her there to cry and be depressed offering no emotional support The school is ill equipped to handle issues and take no personal accountability for the cracks in staffing qualifications. This is anything but Christian. The new president is a cold and impassioned person who exhibits nothing but negativity. His callous tone and rhetoric is saddening. The school can be such an amazing place for youth to grow and prosper, and was so under previous leadership, but the consistent negativity, lack of structure and new uncaring administration makes this school less than desirable. I am saddened how quickly the mission has changed and hope that some day they find their way back to the same caring place that once was. I adored Oakdale and saw positive change in my kiddo the first year of attendance. Since then I have seen dramatic changes provoking deregulation and troubling behaviors. . If your child has no special needs and does not need guidance, this is a great option: but do consider other alternatives if they do require guidance and community. I went here for an entire year and as an adult and I still remember the cruelty certain staff showed . There were no janitors , therefore they use the students to maintain the grounds as well as the staff's houses . They mask the issue as "job training" . I remember feeling as if I was an orphan in a movie when a staff member told me to clean her bathroom with a tooth brush . One of my jobs was as a "merry maid" where we had to clean our teacher's as well as any other staff's houses. Another thing is they make sure you eat everything on your plate and if you don't you will points deducted from your "dorm score " , the point of that is to not waste food when there are people starving which I understand . But one time there was poor options for dinner , so grilled cheese it was , I don't like crust on my sandwich but they forced us to eat that as well , so I complied , but the grilled cheese had way too much cheese in it , it felt like 5 slices , so I squeezed some out the sandwich . When walking to put my tray away the staff member whose family I had to dine with that week noticed the globs of cheese on my plate and told me I either eat it or be reprimanded . Yes , GLOBS of cheese!!! I couldn't believe they would do that, the family name was the UNDERWOODS, whose children were unruly and messy ! The only good families were the Murphys and the Mr.Kratzer. I was kicked out the school for attempting to use the bathroom in between the bell before chapel . Mr. Underwood grabbed my arm extremely rough and aggressive and told me to head to the chapel , I told him I need to use the bathroom and that's when he grabbed me with more force and shook me , I cursed him out and got aggressive because I felt unsafe and threatened . I had bladder issues and have to use the bathroom often , the staff suggested I wear a pad everyday and pee in it when I have to go . This school and the staff are really sick . Only thing that came good from this school was my life long friend . read more
