It is located north of downtown, bounded by North Main Street, Branch Avenue, the Moshassuck River, and Cemetery Street. Its main entrance is at the junction of Branch and North Main. The burial ground is one of the larger municipal cemeteries in Southern New England, and it accepts 220 to 225 burials per year. Many historical figures are buried here like many of the Brown brothers who founded Brown University and Stephen Hawkins, who signed the Declaration of Independence. I have been to this peaceful area for walks and sometimes to ride my bike in the peacefulness of the surroundings....there are some areas that are in disrepair and neglect, some other ones seem a bit better kept.

Unfortunately, it is in a state of neglect and many of the historical tombs and stones have fallen to the ground or have been damaged. The Preservation Society has alerted the city about this and hopefully something will be done to bring this back to its former glory. Some of the history behind this historical cemetery, in 1834, the Grace Episcopal Church purchased more than four acres of land on the South side of Providence for use as a burial ground. By 1843, the site encompassed nine acres within the triangular-shaped, 8500+ plot cemetery at the intersection of Broad Street and Elmwood Avenue, the gateway to the south side of Providence. From its original inception, the cemetery was designed with great care and attention to detail. All of the burial plots were arranged symmetrically, in diamond-shaped sections separated by avenues named after trees. "Cemetery Square" occupies the center of the cemetery and is marked by a small, diamond-shaped area. Between 1859 and 1860, a house in the Gothic Carpenter style was built on the property to serve as a caretaker's lodge. This cemetery has great historical significance, as the backgrounds of many interred in the Grace Church Cemetery represent the growth and development of this section of the City of Providence. Various groups are represented, including mill workers, veterans of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, as well as World Wars I and II, political and church leaders, and representation from the Armenian community. An independent archivist has estimated that there are 256 veteran burials in Grace Church Cemetery.

Wars and rivers…read more The original Princes Hill Burial Ground was started way back in 1728 and was only a half acre or so. Just a place to put the deceased from the developing town of Barrington. It continued as the town's cemetery until it finally closed in 1994. The ancient graveyard contains over 3,000 residents including 26 veterans from the Revolutionary War, 62 from the Civil War and scores of others from various other wars and conflicts. The graveyard is located right next to the present town hall on a nice spot on the Barrington River and nice views of the river are possible from several places in the cemetery. Although the graveyard started out as only one half acre, it expanded several times throughout the centuries and now is a sprawling place that takes a while to walk through. Lots of different types of memorials in the graveyard but most tend to be modest. Of course some of the real old ones are now impossible to read and are slowly returning to the earth, the names and memories long forgotten. Princes Hill is a cool and fascinating ancient graveyard in a lovely location right on the Barrington River. A place where many of the town's veterans are buried and a cemetery that has seen a lot of centuries pass by.

At one point I had asked to sit with dad before the funeral. I was welcomed to sit there and hold his hand, tears overflowing, until I had all the closure that I needed to move forward- As a nurse, I often get approached by folks who tell me that I have changed their lives in one way or another- that's how I felt with Boule. Normally, I would not think to review, however after having recently had 2 funerals in 2 years at Boule's I feel the need to leave some feedback. Tom is an absolutely astounding human being. In 2017, my family lost my 16 year old sister to health complications. The loss was sudden and left us in an extremely hard place financially, emotionally and mentally. A friend of ours drove my mom to Boule's to speak with Tom. Upon hearing the story of my sister's life and how dedicated my mother was to her, Tom decided to be patient and work out whatever he could to help us give her the services she deserved without feeling pressured to think about the money right away. He was just absolutely kind, I have no words to describe it. More recently, two weeks ago, I lost a childhood best friend. His mom decided to go with Boule. Again, I saw Tom and he remembered my family despite it being two years. He asked questions and was genuinely interested in knowing how we were doing. He and his team did an amazing job with giving my friend one last send off. He even allowed us closer friends to stay an extra 30 minutes because he knew we were having a rough time. My friend was 28, we're all a bunch of "kids" who didn't expect this so suddenly. Again, Tom understanding as always was patient and kind with us and the family. *****Overall, I highly recommend going with this home. These people genuinely care for you, your family and your feelings. They aren't after the money.

Saint Ann's Cemetery is such a beautiful place. They keep it very clean and they have very nice…read moreburials. They keep the grounds very clean here , and they don't just throw your precious decorations out immediately they allow your decorations to your loved ones to stay for a little bit. It's a little hard to navigate on your own for the first time , but if you go to the main office they will help you out give you a map or guide you. The chapels are beautiful ! I attended a burial here and it was very beautiful , they made a sad moment into something understanding and accepting. The family who runs this are very nice. The stones are very pretty and the upkeep makes me very happy. Cemetery's that are well kept are hard to find, but this one is one of them. There's a lot of water surrounding , if you do want to stay around and walk around ( I have numerous family members here. ) There's a church directly next to this site as well with its own lot, if you want to attend church.

There are some broken stones and I don't like that the stones that are flat to the ground get covered over with cut grass and leaves. I'm afraid that they might disappear entirely. There are lots of roads through the cemetery and places where you can stop and walk. It's really beautiful with all of the old trees. I only go in here to take pictures to put online for people doing the genealogical research. I love Cemeteries and this is a really nice one.

A place to…read morerest The Greenwood Cemetery was established in 1858, which means it is an old graveyard but certainly not a really ancient cemetery by New England standards. Many of the graves do date back well over a hundred years but the cemetery is still accepting new arrivals. A very nice combination of extremely dated and worn graves and monuments combined with nice new and shiny ones. Many of the headstones are very cool and unique. Some huge obelisks and tombs right next to very simple crosses that are now impossible to read. All kinds of very personal and distinctive ways of remembering people now gone from this world. A very peaceful place that is quiet, scenic and at the same time historical. A relaxing place to visit a loved one now departed or to just wander around the many old graves and wonder about the people now at rest.
