The arcade area has various ride on games, basketball shooting, Teddy grabbers, air hockey and pool. They also have computer rooms with loads of xbox's hooked up to flatscreens for birthday parties and private hire. Theres a simulator screen for football, golf etc but both times I've been it has not been on which is disappointing. The majority of the arcade games dispense tickets based on the number of points you score and these can then be taken to a prizes counter and depending on how many tickets you collect you can win anything from haribo to coffee mugs to skateboards and kids toys etc. The centre is situated beside the leisure centre, cinema and lots of different restaurants/cafes so there's plenty to entertain the kids and the adult kids too. I called first thing this morning and was able to book four of us in for just after lunch. It cost £7 per person for a 40 minute session of laser fun! You had to share your session with strangers but this was fine as there were 14 in total and the space was easily able to cope with that many players. The space is made up of dark corners, barrels and windowed walls. It really does resemble a war zone! Each player is given a vest, sensors and a laser gun and the aim of the game is obviously to shoot the opposing team without being shot at. The great thins about Urban assault is that you don't run out of bullets and the guns keep individual scores. At the end of the session the staff take you in to the briefing room and ask who got the highest kills. I thought this was the only thing that could have been better - they could invest in trophies for the individual winners - especially for kids! Overall I really enjoyed it and got carried away within minutes of the game started.

And some sad adults who enjoy dressing up and pretending to be in the army. We have had several of the kids birthday parties here and have been really impressed. Mainly because the staff take over completely and organise the kids, shouting at them if necessary. Well, this is the army soldier. Now drop and give me ten. The kids love it as the first thing you do is go into a briefing room - this is the stage at which parents can opt out, although the waiting area is small with just a few vending machines for snacks. In the briefing room, one of the staff who will be dressed in army gear gives the kids all the rules and explains to them how to play the game. Then it's on to the uniform room to get kitted up. I'm sure there's a macho military name for this room - locker room? Kit room? Get your tough uniform on room? Then the kids are unleashed and will get about half an hour of good old running about shooting each other with lasers. It's quite dark in the combat zone so the minimum age is 6, but sensitive 6 or 7 year olds may not like it. The staff stay in this room too and the whole place is done out to be like an underground bunker, very atmospheric and military feeling. If you are taking a large group, you can book out the facility but if there are just a few of you, you just join in with whoever else is there. In theory this may mean that your 7 year old is playing against some crazed adult who is convinced he's in the army, so call and check who else is booked in when you are planning to go.

So we park in the city centre and take a 15 minute walk to get here. Once inside the main door and through the bag search we were processed quickly and the staff are always courteous and helpful. Our seats were upstairs and we were quite far back from the stage with a great view. As with most concert venues in this city the seats are barely comfortable, the space between the seats is almost non existent, so you are forced to be very near to total strangers and I'd rather not thanks very much. The food and drink pricing is more akin to airport charging. I noted that the price for a small Coca cola, from a drink dispenser into a paper cup, was £3.10 for an ungenerous portion, or put shortly daylight robbery. If it's comfort and relaxation you want to enjoy a concert I can assure you you're in the wrong place so it's as well Andrea Bocelli and friends were in top form.
