Promise Church has been a huge blessing to my life!…read more I have had to move around quite a bit in the last 10 years of my life and have my experience with different churches. I prefer not to church hop but for such an important decision as where to worship and learn about God and living, there's nothing like going in person. I heard about this church from a friend and definitely feel like God was calling me here. First of all, it is a predominantly Asian church. But that is not what matters the most to me. What matters to me in a church is that it is Christ-centered in the preaching and the worship. I appreciate that Pastor Roy doesn't just tell us what he wants to here, but preaches the hard truths from the Word. The preaching style is sometimes topical and sometimes based on a series in the Scripture. The gospel is front and center and he always reminds us to live a life true to that. He's also pretty funny. What also matters to me is the worship. The music is bomb of course, but what's most important is that they are passionate about God and faithful in their service. I definitely feel this worship experience helps me connect better with God. Last and perhaps most importantly, they make a huge effort to build community. We have discipleship groups for individual growth and community groups for getting to know people on a spiritual level. Through these groups, I feel like I am forming deeper, lifelong relationships that will also challenge me to be a better Christian. Overall, I feel blessed to have found this church and would recommend it to anyone! COVID update: during COVID, the church has been making the extra effort to keep us safe. We have the option to worship online or in the outdoor parking lot. They have sign-ups before-hand to ensure that we can appropriately socially distance. And everyone is wearing masks (including the pastor and worship team). I feel really safe in that environment.

The "service" was very uplifiting. The band was good and the songs for worship were familiar to me. I thought Pastor Roy Shinn's sermon was one of the highlights of the morning for me. If I lived closer, I would definitely come back. I had been to the Garden Christian Fellowship in Chatsworth before and that is a fantastic church - they sent Roy and a team to start The Promise. Everyone seemed really friendly. If you don't have a church where you belong, I would strongly encourage you to check this one out.
