The site I was directed to (in Montreal's underground mall) is a tiny sample of their usual offering, so small in fact, that paying anything to enter struck me as an utter money grab. (My entry fee was waived as I had the Passport MTL). Even with essentially free admission for me, what was on view here was less than compelling and I had to work hard to engage my interest. My recommendation is to wait until they're back in their permanent home. Finding this place wasn't worth the time it took but, of course, I thought I was headed to the real deal, not a temporary exhibit.

When I visited, the exhibit was "femmes volcans forêts torrents,) an exhibit featuring nine woman artists whose works relate to the environment, ecosystems, environmentalism, etc. I'm not sure I would have gotten much out of the exhibit or spent as much time at the museum except that they offer a free walking tour of the exhibit if you enter at the right time (included with the price you pay to visit; the museum is not free). The guide was wonderful and really helped me to have a better interaction with the pieces. I highly recommend taking them up on their offer of a tour if you have the time! Overall, very small and the temporary location is strange, but it can be very interesting if you're interested in contemporary art or if you're interested in the exhibit at the time you visit!

The two exhibits up, one sound based and the other painting, were both very interesting and engaging. This is a place for experimental and new installations and exhibits. The sound based exhibit was an immersive installation in a large room. It used neon lights, instruments, feedback, amplifiers, cymbals in a large assemblage all controlled automatically. It was a very interesting space to inhabit, and since we were the only ones there we stayed as long as we wanted. I would really recommend anyone looking for an interesting gallery in Montreal to check it out! On par with NYC galleries in my opinion. NB there was a 5 CAD entry charge per person, but I found it worth it!

Displays of historical finds, and records are combined with higher tech displays, including some more sophisticated ones, such as having a somewhat real conversation with a (likely) AI generated image of a tavern owner from the 17th century. Navigating this museum may be challenging for folks with mobility issues or vertigo. Many areas are dark, including stairs (elevators are plentiful). But some rooms are built on top of some of the original structures, covered with plate glass floors. Looking down at these and walking might be a struggle for some. And because the museum is in Old Montreal, there are plenty of places you can go in the immediate vicinity before and after your visit!

In contrast there's currently an exhibit on the wealthy gala costumes of the late 1800s, displays of current student art work dresses, and how indigenous people's culture was appropriated as "costumes" in the 1800s. It amounted to a collection of menus, with no context. No sense of history. Just put on a wall. It was the most dissapointing experience I've had at a museum. And overpriced. A lady was passing by at the same time and both of us ended up having a big laugh as we were having trouble finding the front door... This gallery showcases artworks by local artists, you can find paintings and sculptures of all kinds and for all tastes arranged on two floors. Their inventory is quite impressive and they also offer discounted artwork. Galerie Michel-Ange was a really nice discovery, I recommend if you're in the area!

Located in Old Montreal on a beautiful little cobble stone street. The exterior of the gallery is…read moremodest and blends in with the surrounding buildings so well that you can almost miss it. A small elegant sign hangs above the door. In the window there is a puzzle piece that is eye catching and seems so out of place it stopped me in my tracks... I had to go in. Inside there are various works of art that are contemporary and unique. Each vibrant in color and creativity. A great collection of paintings from several artists.  The space is airy and bright which displays the pieces wonderfully. I did go back to that puzzle piece... Just so cool and different.  Art is subjective and although I wouldn't purchase any of the pieces (not that I could afford them lol), I did appreciate the talent displayed is this lovely gallery.

April 7, 2024 Planetarium in Montreal?…read more This planetarium has two shows: Beyond the Sun, In Search of a New Earth , and We are stars. Costs about $23CAN or $16US. Each of the two shows is about 26 minutes long. Beyond the Sun, In Search of a New Earth is a cartoon type animation designed for elementary school children. We are stars is a more adult oriented movie, with decent astronomical depictions. You need to make paid reservations a day ahead on the planetarium website, as there is a schedule of shows in English, and shows in French, with early day shows in English invariably sold out a day in advance. And the shows are not shown every day of the week. Located near Olympic Stadium in Montreal, just across from the Bioderm. Make you reservations first here at the Planetarium, and then spend the other part of the day at the Bioderm, and Insectarium, a mile away. Olympic Stadium is reachable by metro some 7 miles from downtown Montreal. These are not Imax films, simply ordinary movies, charging a premium price. First planetarium I attended without evening skies, planets, star systems on a domed screen. Could have seen it in a movie theater in French with English subtitles for less, without going to the planetarium.

The exhibits are actually free to visit. Only the movie theatres require tickets. I spend about an…read morehour there to look at meteorites. The only thing that they could improve is to increase the number of English movies played at late afternoon on weekends and mornings on weekdays. Right now, the English programming on weekday mornings are catered towards parents with kids.

They never disappoint and they are always a showstopper. I've watched several Cirque du Soleil shows over the past 20 years and one thing that keeps bringing me back is the talent, creativity and uniqueness of each how. Each show comes with a beautiful story and often, a strong message. They are well organized. There's some humor added. There is crowd interaction. The shows always give you a WOW factor because you can never expect what's to come. I strongly recommend this to anyone. Whether you've been before or planning to go for the first time, you won't regret it.

Experienced the Cirque du Soleil show Echo in Old Port Montreal Canada. It tells the story about…read morethe bond between humans and the animal kingdom. This 2026 show is under the white big top tent. While their global international headquarters are in Montreal, the company operates its shows as traveling tours but they frequently return to the Old Port to debut new productions. The ticket was about $100 and we had seats around the center. The show brings a modern and surprising twists and very entertaining with a talented cast. The two hour show has an intermission. It was a fun experience.
