I enjoyed watching people while drinking my sparkling water. The proper German woman made it abundantly clear there would be no food service for 15 minutes. That was fine with me. Located along the boarder of the market square & directly in front of the church, Oberkirch Hotel-Restaurant-Weinstube was a wonderful dinner to welcome us to Freiburg We were seated in a nice quiet room upstairs, the place was still bustling w/ lots of dinner guests from local to tourist. We knew we were in for a treat! Appetizers for all included the Asparagus Soup - this was a very creamy soup w/ little hunks of asparagus. Slight spice but the cream & asparagus flavors took center stage. Delish! The Mr & I chose the Gnocchi w/ Cream Sauce & Asparagus - perfectly cooked white asparagus spears & little pillows were tender, w/ just a bit of chew but not doughy. Delish! Dad chose the Whole Baked Trout w/ mixed Salad & said it was flaky & moist & cooked just perfectly Mom chose the Veal Medallions in a creamy mushroom sauce w/ Spaetzle - she said the beef was super tender & she loved the tender spaetzle that soaked up all the sauce Desserts included the Elderberry Sorbet for Dad - very pungent & flavorful. Dad said it was completely refreshing & hit the spot Mon chose the Assorted Chocolate Mousse - white, dark & milk chocolate mousses paired w/ a raspberry coulis. She loved it & wouldn't even think to share - and this was saying something! Great Germany dining in an ideal location. Located in the Munster Platz this restaurant will always attract customers but they went out of their way with quality food and engaged service. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal with classic Germany fare but with an up to date twist - local black forest trout etc. This restaurant is a sister to an excellent hotel by the same name. The food is delicious. The atmosphere with the tables outside as well as inside was a treat. The restaurant was also flexible to dietary needs. I was served GLUTEN FREE bread with my meal! I went back a second time and the food was just as delightful and delicious. I would suggest this as a place to visit when you are in Freiburg. read more
