I was shocked to see the negative reviews here on Yelp when I looked up Occidental after an insurance agent tried to get me to drop them to go with his company that was supposedly "better" trying to refer to these two reviews. Not taking into consideration that He would drop my coverage by 30% and my benefit was his company was better. In my experience with Occidental, almost 10 years it has been nothing but ease and I love the fact that they care about military families. I don't doubt that these people with the bad reviews may have had some issues. Every company makes mistakes and I've been a victim with other companies. Not Occidental, they've been great. It to give a company that serves the military and their families a 1star just isn't American. I have had multiple term life insurance plans in the past where the night mares don't end with clerical errors. This company is not like that in my experience and I will continue to keep the best rates I can get. Thanks for your service. read more

This company is hard to get in touch with anyone to do anything. It's like they don't care about their customer.

I told the person I did not want this policy it was a bait and switch I thought I was signing up for health insurance and then without explanation got switched to this a Life insurance policy. They didn't take long to withdrawal my money though. Now fighting to get it back is a pain and time consuming. read more

WORST COMPANY EVER! If you are active military or retired DO NOT SIGN WITH THIS COMPANY! They will tell you that your policy has lapsed and you owe $500. THEN when you call to ask questions about said issue they will tell you its a clerical error and said problem is fixed. A couple weeks later you get a letter in the mail stating that they have made the decision to completely cancel your policy without refund. read more

It is unfortunate, but the review I read from Ms. Danielle is exactly how I feel and what could have happened to me if I hadn't been assisted by a very capable employee-Ms Sonjia. I've been a client since 1988 and I discovered that while following their instructions to pay the increase in premiums for the last 3 years the money was going to an outstanding loan. I asked to speak to a supervisor about this however a supervisor would not call me back and instead Ms Sonjia called me. If you ever have to call there to inquire on policy services ask for her. Otherwise--not an insurance company I would recommend AND I am also retired military. My supervisor signed me up for this insurance back in 1988. read more
