Almost everything we ordered was delicious! The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the crawfish. You can tell they don't really soak the crawfish long enough and it also seemed a little overcooked. Over that that, everything else was superb and packed with flavor! I'm a self proclaimed seafood lover so of course when I heard about this spot serving not only crawfish but vietnamese style seafood I knew I had to come. I originally heard about their $9 menu but was disappointed to see that it was nowhere to be found during my visit. I'm not sure if they got rid of it due to crawfish season. We came on a Friday night and waited about 10 minutes, the entire restaurant was packed and they don't take reservations. Food: Grilled oysters: 5/5 the oysters were juicy and a good size Tamarind razor clams: 3.5/5 I think I'll try them again in a different flavor Grilled mussels: 3.5/5 a little tough, oysters were much better Fried rice: 3.5/5 nothing special but decent Periwinkle snails: 3/5 the soup it came in was a little bland Crawfish: currently $9.99/lb. I got the house special thinking it would come with oranges since they said it was citrus based but weirdly the garlic butter was the one that came with onion and garlic? I'm not sure if they got the order wrong but whichever one comes with garlic and oranges is the best flavor. Crawfish was cooked well Overall, I did enjoy the food here. I definitely want to come back to try more items. I would say ordering is a little chaotic and they don't speak much english. There was somehow even miscommunication even though our group spoke vietnamese so I'm not sure what the issue is there. Came here on a double date and wanted to try a variety of dishes. If you love seafood this is the spot to go! It's very affordable unique seafood that you can't find in other seafood restaurants. They have the regular fried fish and shrimp but it doesn't stop there. At ocean crawfish they regular grilled fish dishes to snail, clams and other unique varieties. We ordered the scallops, different snails, oyster samplers and crawfish. Everything was cooked perfectly. The flavors were all on point. The coconut snail dish had me wanting to drink the sauce. The razor clams were cooked perfectly to where they weren't chewy like a rubber band. The crawfish sizes were perfect not too large not too small but the flavor was mainly outside the crawfish so they probably don't soak it there. The device was very fast even though it was busy. I visited Ocean Crawfish on Beechnut twice within two days in January because I really wanted to give them a fair try. The crawfish were definitely live and fresh, which I appreciated. You can tell they take pride in having good quality seafood. The first time, I ordered the Medium Spice Ocean Signature. When I received my order, I noticed the receipt said mild, so I let them know it was supposed to be medium. A lady kindly took them to the back and said she was adding more spice. However, when I started eating them, they still didn't taste medium spiced. The second visit, I asked for spicy, thinking maybe I just needed to go up a level. Unfortunately, they still weren't spicy at all--honestly not even medium. The flavor was there, but the heat level just didn't match what I requested either time. Overall, the crawfish were fresh, which is a big plus. I may just need to speak with someone directly next time to make sure my spice level is right because I really want that true medium or spicy kick. read more

If your body is okay with consuming a lot of unhealthy fat, I would highly recommend that you try the fried soft-shell crab with salted egg- OMG I love it! The baby geoduck clams soaked in this spicy, flavorful oily sauce were delicious, and my husband was very impressed with it (the oily sauce). The sea snails in coconut milk were A-OK; it was much better a few months back when I had it for the first time, but last night it was kinda like meh.... Service was pretty much zero. Ocean Crawfish isn't in an area or personally, a place to bring your first date to. However, if you want a good hearty meal that is centered around Vietnamese styled seafood, then this place slaps. Don't expect sparkling clean floors or tables. There's a constant tinge of grease, grime on this premise and the air lingers with thickened smoke. Sad to say, but these are hallmarks of a good Asiantown restaurant. We got practically all of their oysters on promotion and it looked amazing. Their grilled oysters tasted better than their raw oysters or sashimi oysters. We also got their fried rice, noodles, and some sort of mollusks that the waiter didn't even know how to translate. Which are pretty mid and forgettable. The oysters were the stars of the party tonight and since they're on promotion, they came out to be $1 per oyster. Had some family from out of town visiting for the holidays and she loves this stuff. They offer a variety of fresh seafood, cooked traditional Vietnamese style. My favorite by far was the razor clams with roasted garlic. I could eat a whole plate myself. The garlic butter crawfish was solid as well, but come here for the speciality snails/oysters/clams/etc. Best in town when it comes to these dishes. The food comes out surprisingly fast! My family decided to try this restaurant because we heard about the $9 promotion. At the time we got to the restaurant, we got a table really quick. The restaurant was super crowded with extremely noisy. The tables were literally next to each other, so you shouldn't expect some privacy time with your family or friends. Maybe because there were so many customers, we only can see our waiter 4 times, when he took the order, when he brought out our drinks, when we had to go to other table to get some sauces to eat with food, and when we checked out. About the food, they had plenty of options from $5 to $20-30. Their food had a good portion for the price; however, food was extremely greasy. I couldn't eat the noodles at all, tasted like raw noodles mixed with raw oil and veggies. The mussels with cheese were pretty good, but also very oily, and the cheese sauce was not the best. The squids dishes were decent, also very oily. The sauce for the snails tasted like the same sauce for the mussels even though it should taste like salted egg york. Overall, I like their $9 menu. We've always only gotten the crawfish from here, but their other dishes are a must try. Thailand beef Salad - I loved this dish, the flavors just all mesh so well together, the beef was almost like a tartare which I enjoyed. The veggies were thoroughly soaked in the sauce. This dish does come with a fermented sauce on the side, and it is a little pungent, which was right up my alley, it made the dish even better. Korean grilled squid -Squid was tender, and seasoned well. My mom has TMJ and she was able to bite through it, I definitely recommend this if you like grilled tube squid. Grilled Oyster Combo - we loved all of the oysters, it's a good choice if you can't decide on which one to order. Crawfish - they were average to slightly smaller this time around. We got the kumquat flavor, it was delicious. The tanginess did get a little much for me after 5 lbs though so I recommend ordering different flavors for variety. Until 11/22/24, there's a special where some dishes are only $9 each! Crazy price for the food quality! Service was quick. Pay at the counter once you're done eating. My second visit here. This time, we didn't get any salad as last time. Service this time around was not very good. I ordered the oyster combo, small cheese scallops, seafood pan-fried noodles, and fried okra. I wasn't very impressed with any of the dishes. I found the scallops with cheese to be the best dish. I find that their dishes were over-priced & underwhelming this time around. Maybe it was an off day for them, but I don't think I'll be returning for a third round. Really wanted to like this place but everything was just overly salty. Vibes were good coming in as the restaurant was spacious and playing really hype Viet music. Things kinda got disappointing afterward because every dish that came out was just sooo salty, and everyone at my table thought the same, especially the chicken gizzard and squid eggs. Funny enough, their signature fried rice turned out to be overly bland and the "fish eggs" that the server raved about were just tobiko. The rice was extremely mid and lacked seasoning but in turn we ate a lot of it to compensate for the saltiness of everything else on the table. The bloody clams were the only one I like, but even then it was a bit overcooked and there were maybe 5 clams in the soup. This is the closest thing to home when I'm craving for Vietnamese style cooking of Seafood. Instead of flying 5 hours to California, I just take an 1.5 hr flight to Houston for good Asian food. The food surprisingly comes out fast no matter how long you have to wait. I've been here twice already. Once with having to wait for 20 minutes to be seated. However, once we were sat and ordered our food, it came out pretty quickly. We always order crawfish, oysters and other types of Seafood when we come and it's never disappointing. The only thing I was not fond about are the restrooms. It was small and had paper towels everywhere... But don't worry, they remodeled it and looks nice now.
