I used Ocean Lettings for 3 and half years as a renter, When we had the first person who looked after our property Janna all was well until towards the end of our tenancy a man named Jacob took over. During our year with Jacob, it took 6 months to respond to a broken tap that had rotted away and mould all over the bathroom (we had just had a baby - this was a big concern of ours) 6 months, until we said we were not going to pay our rent until something was done about it. Our other problem was which we noted to contractor that our upstairs blinds were broken (one wouldn't close the other always open) Which after 3 and half years to me is fair wear and tear / a problem that was meant to be fixed. We decided to move out, we spent nearly £400 on getting it returned to the way we left it Over £200 of that was a professional clean and carpet clean. Re painting some things ect When we came to move out the workmen were already in fixing and the sign out sheet was done. We had a 7 day clause in our cleaning contract for them to re visit for anything the estate agents felt wasn't right. I emailed the day after (I actually know the contractor and he told me Ocean had been in and did the check out sheet) No response... for two weeks. It eventually took over a month for Jacob to email over the report... but not with charges they wanted to charge us with. Again more emails sent, phone calls, we popped in. No answer. Just that it's with 'contractors' Although the new tenets had already moved in (we only moved around the corner) They were withholding our deposit and as a young family it's been hard work with getting enough money together to move in the first place. Again weeks past and we get a response saying we will be told tomorrow how much they want to deduct... We again two weeks later get a response after loads of chasing... With a completely unfair amount to be taken off... so we respond with our case and evidence... Nothing. Then eventually something but not actually responding to the evidence and answering the questions asked - like how much we have made on the deposit from interest ect Again three weeks NOTHING. It's been nearly 3 months without much contact ect It's frustrating as we worked out we paid over £33,000 for the years we lived there and now we have moved out not even a response! We had no other option than to take it to Bristol Council and TDS and citizens advice. Again they haven't responded to the TDS Jacob has been the least trustworthy agent I have worked with and I advise anyone not to rent with Ocean if you want to actually organise getting your deposit back in a good amount of time / get works done to your house. I've been with a lot of crappy estate agents but this has been the worst and most stressful experience of moving out / my last year with them and I've rented with CJ Hole... So that's saying a lot! Ocean Lettings is one half of the Ocean Estate Agents, do not make the same mistake I did and walk into Ocean Estates half as they have no time for renting customers! And the buying office is much bigger and better; the decorations are lovely and light. There is nothing wrong with the Lettings office and the estate agents themselves were very friendly, even if they were not that knowledgeable. They can tell you where a house or flat is located and the price but that is generally about it and I hate to say it but they all looked like stereotypical estate agents; lots of boxy suits that the males might eventually grow into and nearly all the women were blonde. All of that aside the service was good, nothing exceptional, but I was always given a very amiable reception. Just do not expect them to approach you with any new property ideas or have knowledge about things like internet access or energy sources on viewings. read more

I wouldn't bother listing with these people - as a cash buyer I had a terrible experience trying to view a property. Sent multiple enquiries to make viewings on Rightmove, no one bothered to reply. Then I called up, got put on hold and eventually they hung up on me. Finally got through again and didn't seem customer focused at all and couldn't arrange viewings at suitable times. I'm a cash buyer looking for multiple properties - seems strange they wouldn't bother delivering even basic customer service. read more

Moved into the flat, all the kitchen shelves were greasy, half the light bulbs were broken, the light dimmers didnt work, the previous tennant had left a number of items. I confronted them, they simply said they would look into it, but NOTHING happened. The oven glass shattered, I reported it, and they left me 10 days with out an oven. They contracted me to SPARK ENERGY, again DO NOT GO NEAR, RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Good flat, NOT WORTH THE HASSLE, any conversation I've had has been a nightmare., long winded, drawn out. Two "good" reasons to rent from Ocean - Great service afterall! I am looking to rent a flat and arrange a viewing with the agent. I am interested and they told me to pay deposit the next day. The next day I phoned them and they confirmed the flat is still available and asked me to pay deposit. When I arrive the branch next few hours, I got told that the flat has been taken and not surprisingly they try to sell me other properties. - How clean is your house? My friend rented a flat from Ocean. At the end of the tenancy, he arranged specialist cleaners to clean up the whole house. Receipt obtained. However, the agent still hold on part of the deposit claiming that they need to clean the flat. read more

PLEASE be cautious when using Ocean Lettings Bristol. Chris B was very accurate in his description of the staff. Here is a list of things which we have experienced with them: 1. Agent was late to viewing and asked us to knock on the door and ask the tenant if ok for us to look around whilst waiting for him to get there. Managed to see the property and leave before he turned up. 2. Agent was late to property which we had taken time off work to view. 3. We took a property and paid the deposit. 2 hours later we received a phone call from the agent asking us if we were interested in the property we saw! 4. The day before moving in we received a phone call asking if we were still looking for a property despite moving into a property supplied by them! 5. A friend of mine had a terrible experience with them including a burglary due to the agent leaving curtains open, being locked in their own house due to the agent double lockijng the door despite being asked not to, agents letting themselves into the house for viewings (a house where lone females were living and often on their own) and further to a complaint to the Managing Director of Ocean, no apology or acknowledgement of the problem was forthcoming! They are underqualified, often very naive agents and if you can help it, go somewhere else!!! read more

We saw a place Saturday and rushed over to full in the forms the agent told us we needed to to register our interest. Got there and was told about a £200 holding fee. fine, we arrange that, jet off to a next viewing and spend 1.5 hours trying toc all the agents back to place the holding deposit (more on this later). after several calls and messages both on answerphone and with Sales, no call back. Come Monday, the place has been let to someone who placed their deposit Saturday - 100% not our fault as lack of agent communication is why we couldn't place the deposit!! We're also told only at this point on Monday that they wouldn't have been able to take a payment over the phone anyway!! And while we're on the subject - cash holding deposits only, with no cash refunds available for unsuccessful applications. Barmy. Doubtful we'd use now, as I don't trust them as far as I can see them. Left this review on their site as well but I notice the bad reviews are consigned to yelp, because they obviously don't publish anything below a 4 star review on their site. Super agency to rent through. Organised, good communication, etc. I would imagine that they are good to rent from as well, as they always tell us if our tenants have any difficulties. I cannot recommend the Clifton Branch highly enough. read more
