OSCF is hands down the best gym in Rhode Island--and honestly, the world! The trainers here are incredible, and while it wouldn't be fair to single anyone out, they all bring unmatched expertise and energy to every session. I've been part of this amazing community since 2018, and it's been life-changing. The workouts are grueling (in the best way), pushing you just as hard as you need to grow. ‍ The trainers strike the perfect balance--supportive without being in your face, but always laser-focused on your safety and form. Not only have I transformed fitness-wise, but the relationships I've built here have been just as rewarding. Some of the most elite CrossFit athletes in the world workout here which is a testimony to the programming; but they also provide SO MANY opportunities for all fitness levels and abilities. A wide variety of classes; CrossFit, Olympic Lift, Yoga, Mobility & Core, and Bootcamps. The trainers are incredibly knowledgeable and the community is wildly enthusiastic as they support your goals and achievements. Retuning to the gym after being waylaid was terrifying as my fitness level had atrophied & I worried the programing would be too intense, but all workouts are scaled to your level, trainers are always willing to help with form and suggest modifications. I felt it was time to update my review. I have been a member for now for over a year and it is safe to say I am drinking the cross fit Koolaid. There are not many days that I am not doing a WOD or 2 at my box. :) Over the past year my confidence has grown along with my strength and my goals. I have been getting new PR's regularly and I completed a Spartan race this fall, which was one of my major goals for 2014. I contribute this to the amazing staff and members at Ocean State cross fit. The coaches are truly dedicated to helping members achieve their goals. They offer more than just workouts. The class offerings are always changing to offer help with certain moves or goals. Members are regularly given surveys and check in emails to ensure that things are going well or just to ask for opinions for improvements. My 5 stars do not come from any posh gym setting or smoothie bar. Our box is rugged but functional. The 5 stars comes from the fact that I look forward to working out. I am never bored and I have never looked at the clock waiting for a workout to be over with. Also,it's because I call it "our" box. At Ocean State Crossfit, we're a family. read more

For a lovely three weeks in the summer of 2012, I was a crossfitter, and I miss it terribly. I bought a Groupon for Ocean State Crossfit almost a year ago, and signed up for their two week on-ramp program, which is where they teach you how to do crossfit. Crossfit itself is high intensity interval training that incorporates functional movements along with agility and cardio. It's like a mashup of weightlifting, gymnastics and cardio done very quickly and while listening to loud, angry music. In on-ramp, you learn some basic lifts, do a couple WODs (workout of the day), make friends with some freaky equipment and realize that you can no longer do a push up. It's like an intense two-week bootcamp and though I was terribly sore the whole time, it was totally exhilarating. I knew nothing about crossfit before coming to this place, and I learned a ton. It's the most efficient workout I've ever had. Twenty minutes of high intensity weight pushing had me dripping sweat and feeling like a total badass. The workouts are different every day, so you're always twerking some new muscle, which occasionally means it's hard to sit down or shampoo your hair, but also that you're getting a seriously good workout. I'm really not someone who should be talking that much about crossfit since I only did it for three weeks, but I really, really loved it and I learned so much in that time, I have to give these guys credit. Everyone I met was incredibly nice and supportive. Going to my first WOD after finishing on-ramp, I was terrified, but the coaches and other crossfitters could not have been more welcoming. Ultimately, I had to give this up because I just couldn't afford it, but I hope some day, after student loans are paid off (ha), I'll be able to live my crossfit dreams. I am not a member but was here for a GarageGames competition this weekend. Great facility that is well kept and maintained and the competition was one of the smoothest ones I've attended, which reflects well on the box and its ownership. If I lived nearby I'd definitely check these guys out. The members were enthusiastic and very supportive of all the competitors. read more

Its been 2.5 months I joined Oceanstate CrossFit. I look forward to every 5am class. This crossfit is unique in many different ways. I have never done CrossFit in my life. And most of the CrossFits want you to sign up 3 months course in order to attend the classes. So, I never joined any. Only OSCF allowed a beginner like me to be part of the pro athletes in the class. Every coach is so motivating and encouraging. They are so fit and strong. The amount of confidence they have on you is beyond your expectations. The best part is nobody tries to sell you anything like "oh you are beginner, you should get coaching" etc. Until last week I had no idea they offered coaching. They dont give up on you in the classes even when you want to give up and stare others out of fear. They push you to make you realize how much stronger you are than you think. I thought I was very fit and strong until I joined OSCF. This is the fittest crowd I needed all these years to look up and do better everyday. Am so glad I found OSCF and beyond excited to experience what's ahead. I highly highly recommend OSCF. read more

For the past 3 weeks I've been lucky enough to have started training with David Ward-Smith at Ocean State CrossFit. If you or anyone that you know are on a weight loss journey or just trying to start a healthier life style I strongly recommend looking into this facility. Not only are the coaches super awesome and knowledgable but everyone that I have met at the gym has been incredibly nice and encouraging. Ocean state is awesome. I was weary to give crossfit a chance, I'm sure glad i did. Everyone of the staff is amazing and i mean each and every coach will remember you, they know what you are and aren't good at and you're not just another body in the gym to them. I always felt welcome from day one and being inexperienced, it was never an issue. The on ramp is a great class to get you familiar with some of the workouts and forms/techniques. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to start crossfit. Awesome gym wish they had these everywhere.
