Hazelnut had been through 3 foster families before me, over the course of 2 months. Despite having a good life for 7 years (she was reluctantly surrendered by her family when they moved into an apartment), and despite the efforts of 3 amazing, caring foster families, Hazelnut was unsettled, unsure of where life would dump her next, and, I think, misunderstood by all the potential adopters who ran away with their tails between their legs. It doesn't help that I'm gone 40 hours/week for work, and there's nobody around to stimulate her brain cells. Hazelnut is an intelligent, loving hound, but she has some serious anxiety issues around dogs (especially, but not only, big ones), and around certain people, too (I have not yet figured out what makes her snap at people). When her triggers get too close, Hazelnut barks and lunges and froths at the mouth. So finding a dogsitter was going to be challenging! Cathy of A Dog's Day was not fazed by Hazelnut's seemingly aggressive behaviour. Our first meeting, at the beginning of May, 2 weeks after I had adopted Hazelnut, everyone nearly went deaf. Hazelnut was barking and bearing teeth, shouting "Hey everyone! I feel really uncomfortable right now! And I want you to feel that way too!" In spite of the fact that Cathy was then on vacation until a week before my weekend getaway, she planned with me an approach to introduce her to Hazelnut and gradually make the relationship more comfortable. She also brought along her son Jacob, knowing that his gentle, laid-back demeanor would be soothing for an unsettled dog. Cathy and Jacob met me at home and took Hazelnut for a walk. I gave them the key, and later in the week, they let themselves into the house, and took Hazelnut for another walk. All of this was free of charge, because they wanted to make sure the weekend would work out well for everyone, Hazelnut especially! Jacob did much of the dog-sitting while I was gone, and I couldn't be happier with the results. When I got home Monday afternoon, Hazelnut was lolling about on the couch. She was more relaxed than I'd ever seen her. In the course of 3 days, Jacob and Cathy worked some kind of de-stressing magic on Hazelnut. I will definitely be hiring A Dog's Day again in future. And if you need an experienced dogsitter (or dog walker) who is prepared to deal with practically anything, who will plan it carefully, and execute the plan with love and attention to detail, then you should give Cathy a call!

Each time we get there, Adobe is happy to see Leslie (the business owner) who has a couple of dogs of her own. There are usually other dogs that stay over for extra companionship. The owners live onsite, so there is always supervision. The facility is brand new, very clean, a good size and well laid out. There are sections to ensure all the dogs will be comfortable, can have their own space and bed, and still be able to play together. They play area is very secure with a few shaded areas for the summer. Adobe is always exhausted when we take him home. Whether because we're going out of town, or just need a night off, Hound Tales is the perfect inn for your dog. They obviously love animals and care about ensuring each pet is happy during their stay. I definitely recommend them and will be taking adobe again. I hope they get a Facebook Page up soon as I'd love to see even more pics of the dogs playing.

Last time I was there, she was mentioning a 6th-visit-free incentive, which is great if you need to use a kennel often. The facility is very new and nicely designed to give all the dogs their own space while remaining social. Perfect for Molly's social mood swings. I don't even consider Leslie's place a kennel, it's more like Molly is staying with family. She stayed for New Years a couple years ago. We knew she'd enjoyed her stay when she came home and slept for a whole day.
