The actual Orchard is beautiful... view is amazing so much space feels like no one else is there! Workers there are also very nice and helpful ! Definitely get a picker to pick your apples, the best are at top and this time of year most are only high up. Once we finished we came down to buy some cider doughnuts (our favorite) at the shop, my mom got excited and went "look she just put some out come grab some" to ME... a worker comes over and goes " um i do not know why you are even saying that they are all the same thing" with a big attitude. The other worker then looks at us and goes " um yes all the same thing same doughnuts" with another attitude. Does not seem like a big deal but the attitude was crazy. We were just excited! So we left not spending any money here. Same incident happened last year, we understand how some people have off days just no need to take it out on customers who are excited to buy your stuff?? I never wrote my experience with any places here on yelp but I truly was just caught off guard. My family and I have been coming here for years!!! Even though it's July in October, everyone needs a good Autumnal apple picking outting. And let me tell you, Ochs Orchard delivers the goods. Located in Warwick NY (home of more orchards than you can count on two hands), Ochs is the place for the serious apple picker. Once you reach the top of 2 dirt roads (cars without shocks need not apply), you go and pick up your 1/4 or 1/2 bushel bag. You are given a map of the entire orchard, which is split up by apple type. Then you can pick to your hearts content. I recommend leaving the beaten path for the better apples. Ochs also has a variety of berries and pumpkins to pick, as well as the standard Hudson Valley fare (maple syrup, honey, etc.) at the home store. read more

My #1 go-to spot!! I've been recommending this place to everyone I know. They have every kind of veggies, fruits, and gourds growing there. After picking and we're exhausted, we go feed the donkeys and goats(?) there, and then we finally make it down to the little market. Pick up some local raw honey, and then we head to the back where they have their fresh apple cider donuts and hot hot hot apple cider Bonus: The staff is friendly and not peeking over your shoulder everywhere. Similar to others, my family has been going here annually every year since before I was born, and it is always my favorite day of the fall season. They do have a great variety of apples, which are well organized and labeled, and the view of the mountains from the orchard is amazing. The store also sells fresh farm goodies including apple cider and apple donuts. But, it has gotten very crowded, along with Pennings and Warwick Valley Winery, so if it's a gorgeous fall weekend in September or October be sure to get there early 9AM/10AM -- forget it after 12 PM. Also, it has gotten increasingly expensive over the years -- a bushel was $24 this past weekend. Ugh! But, you pay for the experience and it is only once a year. read more

Being regular customer for last 5-6 years, I have noticed that this year they have increased prices beyond any reason. I'm not willing to pay extra if someone else is abusing the pick your own system. Also girls at checkout constantly cheat on weight (they charge for box weigh, even though they claim not to). I've worked at farmers markets all over NYC and I have to be honest, nothing is as good as a fresh sun-warmed strawberry/cherry/raspberry/blueberry that you've picked off of the plant yourself. Ochs is a beautiful/reasonably priced farm to pick your own on. There aren't a whole lot of "extras" here--Ochs keeps it simple, but wonderful. Och's has been a family favorite since I was a little kid. Great place to go apple picking, grab a pumpkin, corn on the cob and apple cider. The cider donuts are so incredible -- when they're right out of the oven, they just melt in your mouth. Outstanding!! My only cavet (the reason why I am deducting one star) is that the secret is out -- everyone knows about it and the place can be a zoo in the fall. It is located at the top of a small dirt road and can be kinda tricky with all the cars up there. But it is worth it for the small country feel once you get up there! read more

If you're looking to apple pick with endless amounts of choices and great crop to pick from, come here. It's just an hour north of NYC and it's really a beautiful drive. Prices are reasonable, you pay for the bag and and fill that bad boy up until you can't squeeze anymore! The donuts get a 4/5 because I've had better apple cider donuts but hey, it's a donut. I came here because of all the positive reviews on Yelp, plus I usually go to the same place for the past 5 - 6 years, and wanted to try something different. From the moment we got there, we were... underwhelmed. The first place you arrive is the general store, you keep going past a tiny pen with 2 donkeys ( I think), and continue up an extremely narrow path to the orchards. There is a building, which is more of a hut where you buy the bags you use for the apples/produce, rent wagons, and apple pickers. The bathrooms were port-a-pottys, and on an 87 degree day, they hadn't been cleaned out. Words cannot explain what opening those doors was like. I had to get back in my car, and drive back down the narrow path just to use the store restroom. The orchards themselves were nice enough, we picked a good amount of my favorite apples. The girl at the "hut" for checkout was nice as well. The store was nothing compared to what we are used to at our usual orchard - which has fresh made apple doughnuts, pies, honey, etc. Plus the lady behind the counter was pretty rude. All in all not a bad experience, but I'll return to my usual place for pumpkin picking. read more

It's the day after the wedding and there are still a lot of family and friends in town so what do you do? You round them all up, pack a large picnic basket, and head out to the orchard for a little apple picking. The Ochs orchard is on a gently sloping hill with a gazebo at the top. I would suggest packing a picnic lunch, buying a 1/2 bushel bag, and picking apples on your way up the hill to the gazebo. Then take a break and have some lunch. I've been going up to the general Warwick NY area for apple picking for a family tradition for years. After being a touch disappointed with the crummy apple selection and horrible traffic at a neighboring orchard, I decided to see what Yelp had to mention. Luckily for me, it looks like I found a gem. For one, it looks like a working farm. It's a very low-key setting, and if you get there when I did (11:30 am on a Saturday), you won't exactly have to fight the crowds. Plenty of apples of all kinds were there, and I could see that if you're down for the trip in the summer, they have all sorts of berries and fruits you can pick if you're so inclined. My family and I had a great time. Plus, for $25, you can get a lot of apples. If you feel like going hard on the picking front, I recommend either bringing a wagon with you or spending the extra $5 to rent a wagon. Also, they have those picker things, but at my height, I could do without. I saw they worked well though. Beyond the apples, the view is incredible. It's hard to believe that this is 60 miles from Midtown. By the entrance to the orchard, they have this nice BBQ with yummy pulled pork sandwiches. (Though for you hardcore BBQ fanatics, I will say that this BBQ requires sauce.) Down the hill at the country store, they have all the accoutrements of an orchard store, with preserves, cider donuts, ice cream and even jugs of cider you can take home. The cider is delicious hot. I liked it because it was an actual orchard instead of Apple Picking Incorporated like the other places. If you're looking for a laid-back day in the country, this is the spot. read more

This review is solely for PYO apples. This was my first time ever going apple picking and I am so happy that I decided to come here! Ochs Orchard has stunning views and really gives you the feel that you're really in the country. For PYO apples its $14.00 (10 pounds?) for a small bag, and $27.00 for a large one (20-22 pounds?). I went on 10/12 and there were plenty of apples left to pick. Parking is free. The orchard is very large and they have several groups of apple trees in different locations so if you cannot find any when you first encounter an area, don't be afraid to venture out and see if you can find some more. They also allow you to rent a wagon or apple picker, but I didn't need one. Also, you have try the Apple Cider Doughnuts!!! Amazing! read more

The staff is rude and they treat you like a criminal when they don't have the proper systems in place causing confusion. Then, The workers don't do their jobs and so they constantly stop to question what you have in your bag - I wouldn't mind if they weren't so rude and accusatory; so... if you go to this place for Apple picking, you will be accused of stealing even if you paid,as my family did, and leave feeling violated instead of leaving after what should feel like a fun day of apple picking in the fall. Bottom line - we will not be returning and anyone considering going there should look up a better place. This orchard is great. Came here on a day trip with my boyfriend and had a great time. The trip from the entrance of the orchard to the parking lot was a little difficult. The road is very small and traffic is terrible. Took us almost half an hour just to get to the parking lot! We went on Sunday 10/12/14 at around 3. Although it's relatively late into apple season and we went late in the day, we still walked away with a big bag of apples. This is a great orchard. I'm happy that they were one of the few honest orchards left in close proximity to the nyc. I read so many bad reviews on other orchards in the area and the night before I switched to ochs from my original choice and I'm so glad that I did. It's $14 for a peck Bag and $27 for the larger bags. The orchard as of yesterday still had Soo many apples left for picking. Pumpkins were becoming scarce so you should get there soon if you need any. There arent too many frills such as hay rides and games but you get what you need at a great price. The shop has awesome cider donuts and ice cream. Totally worth it. My family loved it. read more

We always come here. Fruits are good. Buy today, after picking cherries, I asked them why I was charged $40 for some cherries, I asked them if they CHARGED Weight for the boxes. The lady told me Absolutely not, after weighing them, I put the cherries into a plastic bag and asked her to Weigh it AGAIN. This time it was much lighter. So They were CHARGING for all the Heavy boxes they provided. They counted the weight of the boxes !!! When I complained. The lady said oh, sorry, I think the wind blew this way, so the weight was inaccurate:(. Please check before checking out. I hope they can fix this issue , it is irresponsible and fair for hundreds of costumer who unknowingly buy all these fruits and paying Extra for this. read more

Had a great time picking apples and all sorts of veggies with my family. And we don't have any kids -all adults. No admission fee (unlike some of the places nearby). The best deal is the giant apple bag- you can really stuff it, and it comes out to about $1 a pound (get those honey crisps!). I even picked potatoes, jalapeños, zucchini, cabbage, tomatoes, green beans, peppers, and saw that they had lettuce and Brussel sprouts and other veggies. The peaches appeared to be gone when we went (we went two weeks ago by the way). I hope to come back next summer and berry pick. We drove up from Fairlawn, NJ - easy one hour drive. read more

This place is brilliant. 90 minutes out of town is this orchard, free to enter, where you can pick from a variety of fruits & vegetables. They're so cool, in there that whole families set up picnics amongst the apple trees & make a whole day of it. The apples I took directly from a tree (Stayman Winesap) were the best apples I have ever tasted. EVER. The golden-hued autumn trees, overlooking the farm valley, walking with my girl. It was one of the most beautiful, romantic places I've ever been. Then we went to the gift shop. In addition to a yummy, hot cup of cider we shared a hot homemade apple cider doughnut, a la mode with apple pie ice cream, whipped cream & fudge. $3. We were correct, very few children and plenty of locations to enjoy apple picking alone in our little group. Great orchard! Loved that there was vegetables for picking too. Very tasty food as well to purchase for lunch. Big orchard and might be a lot of walking if you're not used to walking a lot or hills but there's staff driving around in golf cart type cars if you need a lift around. Missed seeing the animals or pies so I definitely would go back. read more

Such a beautiful place to apple pick and spend a Saturday with family and friends! Ochs Orchard is nowhere near as crowded as the other apple picking places and is honestly better in my opinion! It is a very simple orchard, since it doesn't have corn mazes and rides and all of that, but is absolutely beautiful and has all of the apples you could ever want! I love that you have to walk up and over a hill to get to most of the apple trees and there is a gazebo at the top of the hill with a great view. They have a lot of different types of apples that are available based on the day that you go and a big bag of apples is only $15. You can rent an apple picking pole to get apples from the tops of the trees and a wheelbarrow to carry your apples. The apple pole is worth it, especially since it adds to the experience, but I didn't think that the wheelbarrow was worth getting since I was constantly afraid that it would make the apples bang around too much and that they would bruise. They also have a pumpkin patch to pick up a pumpkin and a little area to pick your own vegetables. Also, once you're done apple picking for the day you can go back down the hill to their store, which has delicious apple cider donuts (much lighter and fluffier than other places!) and other products. how to get better strawberries than what's offered at the union square greenmarket: get in a car and drive about 58 miles to warwick. drive up a tall hill on a dirt road that overlooks a scenic field. stop for a moment to comment on how amazing it would be to sleigh ride off of the road and down into the field. wish for a minute you grew up here. continue on. get a container from inside the store and make your way up to another hill. this hill might be better than all others because it has rows and rows of strawberries on both sides. find the patch that has the strawberries that look like they are exploding at the stem end. they will be the ripest, best strawberries you will ever eat. how to make it more enjoyable than it already is: go with someone awesome. preferably the same person you go with year after year. not everyone gets this sort of thing. find someone who does. go when it's cloudy and it looks like rain. it's not as hot and there won't be as many people. when the sky opens up and it starts pouring, people will freak out and leave. you and whoever you bring will be the only ones left. all of this is enjoyable as long as you like the rain. if you don't, you're probably a horrible human being. read more

Just got back from Ochs Orchard. We had a great time at this scenic farm. I decided to give this orchard a try due to all the great Yelp reviews. We arrived around 3PM on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Luckily we didn't hit any traffic and the farm didn't seem to be crowded. We parked on the side of the orchard and purchased a bag for apple picking. The bag was $25 and held so many apples, it took two of us to carry the bag back to the car. There have to be at least 50-60+ apples. Great variety of apples available from Red Delicious to Macintosh to Jonagold. After picking apples we decided to pick plums. The plums were delicious! We purchased 7 lbs of plums for around $11 - great deal! We stopped at the market after picking fruits and purchased some apple turnovers and candy apples. Then we went to visit the farm animals. Two donkeys that were super sweet and a couple of goats and ducks. The kids loved the animals. All in all, a great experience. I will definitely be back. Oh, and on the way home through town we stopped at Bellvale Farms Creamery - ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I think I would take the trek to Warwick just for the homemade ice cream. read more

This is a double review because we went to Warwick Valley Winery after. What a day, rented a car from NYC, took only about an hour and change. Yelp doesn't let me down. This place has unlimited apples to pick from, peppers, jalapenos, plums, pears, pumpkins, eggplants, blackberries. Then you go to the store after and get some other items and great ice cream. After that we went to the winery which was about a 7 minute drive and they had an outdoor festival which im not sure if its every weekend, but it was great to drink hard apple cider and sit on the lawn with live music. read more

This was a perfect choice for us. Scenic drive from NYC. Beautiful view from the orchard. Picked snap peas, tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant and of course, lots of apples. Enjoyed their picnic tables and the children's area. Somehow missed the animals mentioned in other reviews. Will definitely come back here next year. I don't know much about apple picking, but I did enjoy Ochs Orchard. The different varieties of apple trees are labeled along with brief descriptions of the flavors and potential uses. I really liked that they were focused on being an orchard and didn't have other things like wine tasting and what not. This made the place less crowded and easier to get around. The grounds seem pretty extensive so even though the outer trees were picked clean, there were still a good amount of apples on the inside. You can rent a picker for $3 (and a $5 deposit) that allows you to grab the higher apples and can also rent wheelbarrows or wagons if you have a lot of apples to carry. Parking is next to the orchard (there is also a smaller parking lot near the store at the bottom) and is free. A small bag (I think about 3 pounds though I could be wrong) is about $14 and is plenty of apples. Overall, I definitely recommend this place and a plus is the gorgeous views. They also have other fruits and vegetables if you are interested in those. read more

Since I've been here last, they have really redone the place. The orchard is the same. I recommend a 1/2 bushel of pick your own apples for $30 which can hold a tremendous number of apples as the bag seems to endlessly stretch. I also recommend checking online in advance and going when one of the apples is at the beginning of its picking season to get the most prime picking. We went on the first day of picking for honey crisp apples and it was incredible. They also own a Cidery up the street which is extremely good with about 15 different flavors of hard cider on tap in a barn type bar that is a great place to hang out and get some wood fire pizza. There is also a bar with a small restaurant at Ochs that has delicious food and their house beer on tap. You could spend the afternoon here! The other thing that would make it better would be freshly made apple cider donuts (the donuts are made in advance, possibly off site and sold here). read more

I have been going to this orchard for nearly 40 years. It used to be very low key and felt like a true orchard and farm, rather than an entertainment center as some have become. It was not on the radar of many, so it was never crowded. It has become much more popular over the past five years and today it was extremely crowded. Once we arrived at the orchard, it took half an hour to drive up to the parking lot in a long line of cars. Then there was another long line to pay $31 for a large bag so we could get into the orchard. Most of the trees were already picked clean. We had to walk to the very outer edges to find apples ready for picking. The signage is poor, always has been, so it's easy to get lost if you're looking for those out-of-the-way apples. The views are very pretty from the top, albeit there is a lot of development going on in Warwick, so the vista is now dotted with homes rather than farms. My biggest concern today was the absolute lack of social distancing, especially in the store. It was very crowded, the line for the cider donuts was another half hour and entire families and groups were standing in line together, rather than just sending one person to the line. Crazy. I haven't seen such crowding in public spaces since the pandemic started. Fortunately, almost everyone was wearing a mask throughout the orchard and the store and every employee did. The staff is almost uniformly friendly and efficient. I always loved Ochs, but it seems to be a victim of it's own success. There are many orchards north of NYC and I'll be exploring others in the future. read more
