Service was excellent, overall. We had a window frame painted Stephen is a very good painter and general handyman. Very polite and works cleanly and efficiently. Online quoting is convenient, if a bit fussy going back and forth, but sending accurate pictures of the job is important. Pricing seemed fair. Our only problem with our initial project was the timing of arrival. Stephen arrived about an hour and a half after the appointed time. Stephen did text to let us know he was unavoidably delayed, and it appeared to be one of those things and not representative of their usual service. We are going to try them again on another painting project and are confident it will go smoothly. read more

I had a few small things to be done in my apartment: painting the bathroom and installing a couple of curtain rods. The handyman showed up right on time and was efficient, friendly, neat, and very well-organized. He started by applying one coat of paint to the bathroom walls, telling me right from the start that, in his experience, it was going to need three coats to cover the colour underneath. Since I had been given a quote for two coats, this would be a bit extra to the estimate. Once the first coat of paint had been applied, he installed the curtain rods and hung the curtains for me. The installation is now very sturdy and the place looks much nicer. He then went back and did the second coat of paint. He had me take a look at it after, to decide whether I was OK with it as it was, or if I would like the third coat. Although there is a very, very slight remnant of the former colour, I decided that I was OK with that because otherwise everything in the room would be too white. Overall, I am very pleased with the result. He was extremely neat and cleaned up after himself, although I didn't see that he made any mess anyway. I guess the only downside for me is that I find their prices a bit on the high side and that's my reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. However, in fairness, I should probably have asked more questions beforehand and/or had more than one company give me an estimate. I recognize that things in general are a lot more expensive these days. read more

This is the 5th time we've used Odd Jobs and we are so thrilled with this service. With a little one keeping us busy, our home to-do list has been piling up and Odd Jobs helps us cross them off the list. This most recent job consisted of fixing our deck side door (it was old and warped, so opening and closing the door took a lot of physical effort). They added new hinges and rebuilt the frame, and the door looks great and is functioning perfectly! We have also had them scrub and power wash our back deck, rebuild a broken balcony deck railing, as well as other projects ranging from drywall repair, TV mounting, caulking stairs, adding trim all around our basement floor, replacing weather stripping on our porch door, moving a big sectional couch from our basement, updating our exterior doorknobs and deadbolts, replacing a pipe in our kitchen sink, adding new lighting to our front porch, building custom window screens for our bathroom and mudroom, trimming a laundry room door, and building a custom door for our storage space! Quite a wide and varied list, for which we don't have the tools or the time or the know-how to do ourselves. For my small job, I discovered just how busy the small,to medium contractors/handymen were.Spoke with a few . One was willing to squeeze my job in in about a week knowing my situation.Another explained they were a {medium to large} contractor who ONLY billed for daily work,thus not a fit for what I needed, honesty. Hired twice in March 2017. Found them on Homestars. Downtown condo job As an off-site owner, it was great that they could come in to complete this job without me being there. Replace electrical socket, glue counter-top, caulk bathroom fixture and install light fixture. Electrical light fixture was installed incorrectly the first time, had to schedule a 2nd visit no charge. Damage $300 North York condo job Install 2 light fixtures, remove 2 electrical sockets, drill a hole in a desk. Since the wiring in my condo is a bit tricky they had to hire another electrician to come at $125/hour. Damage $500 Their key staff member/receptionist Kelly is courteous, she can be hard to get a hold of by phone at times. She had trouble running my credit card due to using an incorrect address, ended up paying by e-transfer. I would use again, since they actually provide written quotes in advance and provide invoices which can be useful for tax purposes. Protip - Buy the materials in advance, and email photos to get a quote. They charge $25 for all jobs North of the 401 and primarily service downtown Toronto. read more

I I ever need anything fixed again (or built or renovated) I will call Justin at Odd Job. He's professional, knowledgable, friendly, helpful -- and so tidy! I contacted Odd Job to install a ceiling fan. Was able to get an appointment the next day. Justin had the fan up in just over an hour. While he was at my condo he checked out another issue, and offered advice. The next day he came back to fix my toilet and install a new faucet -- in 40 minutes! It can be difficult to find a trustworthy, detail-oriented plumber/electrician/contractor. Justin's the guy. He's genuine and really seems to love what he does. Reasonable prices, too. read more

I found Justin here on Yelp. And the one positive review. I've had very poor experiences from independent contractors in the past, so during my initial correspondence I let him know of this; I really wanted to ensure I had set my expectations out prior. I'm jaded, and don't have time to chase a contractor. I had very clearly explained the things I needed done around my loft. Typical handy man stuff like, replacing the baseboards in a few areas, touching up a hole in the wall (caused by an overly excited dog flipping a bone into the wall), and replacing the bathroom/kitchen sink taps (I had purchased all supplies needed). I was sure to be clear throughout a few email correspondence emails between Justin and myself, that I had a very particular time. In other words, If you say you're going to make an appointment, agree to being able to do certain things, i will expect you to show up. As a very busy business owner, I have little/NO time to dedicate to fixing up my home. I contacted Justin a good week in advance, asking him if he had the time avail, during the specific week, I outlined the tasks I needed done very clearly. Including the WEEK I HAD OFF OF WORK. He told me he could do the work on the Thursday, which was later in the week than I had wanted, but I worked my week around HIS AVAILABILITY. After about 5 days of back and forth emails, details of the day were confirmed. I also wanted to make sure I had purchased any items/supplies he would need ahead of time to help make the day go smooth. I contacted him 48 hours prior to his appointment, to confirm. Call me anal, but I needed the confirmation ..... In typical contractor style, I hear from him .. the evening before he was supposed to come in. He cancelled in a quick email, "because another job ran over." Yep. That's his reliability. ZERO. Another terrible, unreliable handy man to add to the list. If you have limited time, and you actually have limited time, don't waste an ounce of energy on this guy. Guess Barbara (the 5-star reviewer) got lucky, that Justin actually showed up. We use Odd Job Handyman for all our odd job needs at the many residential rental properties we manage around the GTA not only because of the quality of their work but also because of how good they are to our tenants! We often receive positive feedback from our tenants letting us know how impressed they are with how professional and friendly all the technicians are. This last job was no exception. When the technician encountered a difficult-to-remove old washroom vanity faucet that needed replacing, rather than leave our tenants without running water throughout the rest of the house for several hours while tackling this challenging job, the technician took the initiative to install shut-off valves in this washroom so that the tenants could carry on as they normally would. This household consists of a large family and in times like these when so many people are working from home due to the pandemic, this was a great decision on the technician's part so as to not cause a big disruption to the tenants' workday. Good bunch of guys. Professional, courteous service with good attention to detail. They showed respect to my property and made a good effort to keep everything clean and organized. Before leaving, they were good with explaining to me things I should be mindful of as I resumed the rest of the project myself. From the quote to wrapping up the job to arranging for payment, everything was done smoothly and professionally. They run a very organized business and as a result I suppose the rates are slightly higher than average (they charge both a flat-rate service call charge and an hourly rate that is a touch on the high side). So I would definitely call these guys again but not if it's just for one small odd job (contrary to their name); save up a few jobs to make the visit worthwhile. read more

Odd Job did a great job of demolishing and removing an old rotting, termite-eaten door frame, fixing the vapor barrier underneath the frame, rebuilding the frame and installing the door, in honestly a rather wonky basement entrance-way. They also changed the way the door functioned to make sure everything was up to code (solid door, opening outward). Another thing I appreciated was they did some prep work at their workshop so my day didn't have to be interrupted by a follow-up visit. I can't stress enough how friendly, organized, prompt, punctual and efficient these guys are, and the workmanship is great as well. Top marks in all areas, really. They truly understand the meaning of high quality service. This is the 2nd time I've called them and I would call them again for sure. read more

Way overpriced! These guys wanted us to pay for them to come back to finish the job but we'd been gouged enough, we got someone else. They charge hourly and they are very slow workers, it was so annoying to watch them waste my time and money. They went to get supplies and it took a long time. Also, pulling out of my street their van almost hit me and it was aggressively tailgating another car. I've seen the van squealing around corners in my neighbourhood, they are very aggressive drivers! For that reason alone I wouldn't want them coming to my neighbourhood, I guess it's a good thing their work doesn't make it worth it. Update to their comment below that states I was not a client: I was a client of them, but they dealt with my husband mostly. I guess that's why they didn't recognize me when they almost hit me in their van pulling out of my street. read more

I knew about this place because their offices are a few blocks from where I live. I had a number of severe plumbing and electrical issues in my house. It was really getting out of hand. I have to say that I've never really had a better experience with a contractor. They were friendly and professional but certainly didn't overstay their welcome. No complaints here. They showed up on time, did a good job installing overhead lighting. They had to come back another day to reinforce our ceiling from within the attic to hold the one chandelier as it was 14 kilos and needed the extra support. They worked quickly and very clean. Really bad. Drilled two holes the size of tennis balls into my wall right through to the bedroom while installing a tv mount. Didn't apologize. Mount is crooked. Curtain rods were installed crooked. Guy (Sean) didn't care, didn't apologize, acted like I was annoying him or being bitchy. It was 80$ an hour and supposed to make my life easier during my busy work week, ended up being so much more trouble. Also left my apt filthy with dust after and didn't clean up. I hired Odd Job to repair some busted tile in my front hall, to hang a huge mirror, and to fix my porch railing. It's so great to get one company that can do every silly little thing that needs doing. The front hall tile was the hardest part, and it turned out that the original installer made some... interesting choices. So the repair didn't turn out as pretty as I'd hoped, and the Odd Job guy was genuinely more upset about it than I was. (I mean, it's better than it was before!) He explained everything he did and was very clear about what was challenging about the job and his options for finishing it. The mirror was pretty easy and he explained how he did it so I don't have to worry about it falling off the wall, and the porch railing is better than it was before because the technician was proactive and installed new screws even in the part I didn't point out. All in all an extremely satisfying experience. It's almost as good as doing the work yourself! (Lol jk, of course it's better than doing the work yourself.) read more

Odd Job was recommended to my by a trusted colleague and when I needed to have someone replace the shelving/coat rack in my closet I decided to give them a try. I discovered the problem on a Tuesday evening and sent an email with a photo and link to replacement product...and then followed up with a phone call on Wednesday. Kelly was very professional and was able to schedule an appointment for me that Friday. The work was done very well, at approx the same price as was estimated over the phone. I've been very happy with the work on all three occasions that Odd Job has done repairs at my house in the past couple of years. They've been efficient and have made every effort to do a complete job in the least time necessary. On one visit Shawn found a creative solution to a sticking front door that saved time and preserved the beauty of the door.
