However, I go on an all too regular basis due to one fact: they run an 'Unlimited' scheme where you pay £13.50 a month which allows you to go as often as you want. This is very much a double-edged sword, as I often drag myself to see something I don't really fancy and get a pleasant surprise (Coco Before Chanel), but I also regularly convince myself to give something a go and it turns out to be utter shit (The Time Traveller's Wife). Still it's a bargain either way, though if you're not prepared for that kind of commitment, you may wish to know that Tuesday offers reduced entry all day, and Wednesday is, of course, an Orange affair.

And secondly, this one is in need of a makeover. I'm not entirely sure how long it has been here, but some of the screening rooms have dodgy sound and thread bare seats. Our nearest city cinema is about 40 minute drive away - and about 40 miles. The cinema is located near the top of the high street - it has 1 screen!! Which does not have amazing sound or amazing screen. The decor is art decor - truly and the reception is always welcoming with a big smile. Expect to either go and be one a few to be in the cinema or prepare to book if it is a blockbuster French Lieutenant Woman et al If you are in Lyme and it is raining - go to the cinema it will be a experience that you will enjoy even if the film is no good..

It has fair pricing and offers discounts to Students, Children and Senior Citizens. The staff are fairly friendly, and the shop sells a good selection of goods, however, the on weekends, the cinema seems to attract a much younger teenage crowd, and some do disturb the screenings with noise and general messing about. Also the, seating in Newport is not as clean as it used to be and you can start to see the wear and tear on the facilities from over the years, but all in all a good venue to watch films.

The small and rather old-fashioned Westway Cinema stands in the same street as (now demolished) The Gaumont, the main cinema from the sixties era in this town. The films are usually pretty much up to the minute - even if not quite as fast as the bigger towns - well, we have a quieter pace of life around here! As for facilities, it's situated built into the Westway shopping precinct and just a few footsteps away from the central car park. There's showings every day, often twice a day, and as mentioned the titles are always popular, recently released films. Up the steep stairs (ask in advance about wheelchair access) there is a small foyer with ticket sales, sweet and soft drink sales - and a small bar. Yes, here you can sip a pint or two as you watch the action unfold on the screen. In homage to the olden days of cinema a small ice-cream kiosk opens between the adverts and the main feature for last-minute stock-up of drinks and nibbles. With concessions for children and OAPs and a perfectly pleasant and comfortable setting, this saves a small fortune (especially for families) on travelling to the more pricey cinemas in Bath. Well worth supporting your local cinema!

Same freindly staff. Biggest screen in Dorset in screen 2. Screens3 and 4 wont be too far behind. Screen 1 is the cute small screen that less popular films are screened in usually. Digital Sound and air conditioning will be coming to screen 1 soon. 3D will also be installed in screens 3 and 4, but it will be 35mm 3D to start with. Menaing the cinema will then have 3/4 3D screens. With 2 different 3D systems - Xpand Digital 3D, and a 35mm 3D system (probably Technicolour). Great cinema, great prices, great staff and massive improvements currently taking place. 4 screens and more tehnically is a multiplex, so this cinema will be a 4 screen multiplex from December 2010!!!!!!!!

I think if I'd have known that before I went my expectations would have been different. I think I was expecting an old ornate theatre style cinema lovingly preserved over the years. There is an element of that with ornate walls and an old organ at the front but it's not a big selling point of the place. So I guess it's best to look at this as a community cinema. The snacks are affordable (hurray), they sell plain popcorn (great for children) and it's great to have a cinema on your doorstep rather than having to drive to a larger town and pay lots more for your ticket. So as an affordable local cinema you can't go wrong, they put on the latest films and they even had a Q&A session lined up for the people behind the Shaun the Sheep film.
