My grandson is in his sixth year attending Odessa Christian. The atmosphere is phenomenal! You can tell that the kids are happy when you see them in the halls, the cafeteria, and on the playground. The Christian agenda has given my grandson a Bible education, and it is amazing to hear him quote so many different Bible verses. He learned about the Fruits of the Spirit in first grade, and can still tell you what they are. The school integrates Bible knowledge with an an accelerated academic curriculum, so the Bible is brought in to every subject. It might just be a Bible verse at the top of the math page, but it's there throughout even the core subjects. The school strives to keep the tuition affordable so that it is available to more students than any other private Christian in Odessa. If you do your homework, you will find that is the bang for your buck in Odessa, Texas! read more

First of all they charge tuition every month plus they charge you hundreds of dollars for books and school supplies they let anybody and there's a lot of kids that are really really bad behaved you can go to a public school you don't have to pay money plus they don't even have water for the kids they want you to bring water they're always begging for supplies this place has gone downhill since Miss Campbell left it's a very sad situation read more

Remember the 4yr old boy left ALONE on the bus? How irresponsible of Odessa Christian to leave a 4 year old little boy, on a hot day, middle of summer, in a hot, unventilated bus with all windows rolled up, for several hours!? And in addition to that the little boy was strapped into a child restaint system that he couldn't undo. This is one place I would NOT recommend to anyone! Your children are at day care when you get a call that one of them has been hurt. That's exactly where the McKinley clan was on July 21, 2008. Then 4-year-old Caleb McKinley had been left in a vehicle after his Odessa Christian School class had been on a field trip. He suffered heatstroke and spent a few days in the hospital. His body temperature was such that Medical Center Hospital personnel hooked him up to a machine just to cool him down. Amanda McKinley said her now 5-year-old son seems to be fine but doctors say it's a "wait and see" proposition when it comes to any long-term effects. Mrs. McKinley said there are checkups every few months. "He's not the kid he used to be," she said. "It takes a hard toll on the entire family because his behavior has changed." Once outgoing and fiercely independent, Caleb now is shy with adults in public, especially women. His mother said that's a complete turnaround from the kid who would talk to anyone anytime. Mrs. McKinley said night terrors come every night. Some websites say it's a sleep disorder like sleepwalking. Mrs. McKinley said Caleb never had them before that day. "He doesn't say a whole lot about his nightmares," she said. If the websites are correct, most children rarely recall the night terrors. Mrs. McKinley said she has to watch how long Caleb stays outside because he overheats. "It's just like instant nosebleed" if he gets too hot, she said, adding that his clothes were doused in blood that day he was left in the school van. It's also affected Ethan McKinley, Caleb's 10-year-old brother. "Ethan looks in almost every vehicle, which is good, but a 10-year-old shouldn't be thinking about things like that," Mrs. McKinley said. And Caleb won't spend the night at his grandparents' home, something he did almost weekly before. Caleb is doing better. Last year he went to preschool at Kiddie Kollege, and Mrs. McKinley raves about the progress he made there. Interestingly, she doesn't bash Odessa Christian, though she blames the people she says were responsible. "We don't want to negatively portray the school, because it is a very good school," she said. The two women who led the field trip that day, 26-year-old Kimberley Mountcastle and 59-year-old Debra Harrison were both charged with second-degree felonies. To boil down the legal particulars, the accusation means investigators decided that the two women put the child in imminent danger by leaving him unattended in the van. District Attorney Bobby Bland said the case is still under investigation. Mrs. McKinley admits she wants the case prosecuted. "When somebody hurts someone you love, you want to know that person is being punished," she said. Whatever happens legally, the family is trying to move forward. They plan to move to the Dallas area soon, a decision that Caleb's situation had a part in. "It doesn't seem as severe when we're not in Odessa," Mrs. McKinley said.
