I was amazed by the large layout and selection while browsing. The display areas are engaging and have you stopping to look every few feet. I found books for myself, as well as a Father's Day gift for my husband thanks to a specific display they had with Father's Day ideas. I loved the vinyl section, the horror selection, and the large graphic novel area. They also had some unique art books on display that I had not seen anywhere else. At one point I was looking for a specific title and the employee was able to help me find it. When checking out I learned they had been here for 13 years and the first shop is located in Manchester, Vermont. I was given a 10% off coupon and told about their online shop. I love supporting indie bookstores and spent a good 30 minutes shopping around. Very happy with my purchase. This is a bookstore you won't want to miss!

They brought much of the same charm from Manchester to Saratoga, sticking true to the Northshire style with nooks and crannies, metal stairs, and the dedicated children's section on the upper level. The store was actually much bigger than I expected; the exterior was deceptive in a good way. My only complaint is that the romance section was surprisingly small; I feel like BookTok has really helped that genre take off so seeing just two shelves of romance was disappointing. But the sci-fi/fantasy section is great, and with an entire level dedicated to children's books I can see it being a hit for families too. They also have discounted books labeled with the "Great Price" sticker which was nice to stumble upon; everyone loves a good deal!

That said, the Re-Collector has picked up a few gems so if you're a hard core collector, you'll likely spend a little time flipping through the bins. There's some CDs, DVDs, cassettes, and even a shelf of 8-tracks, and then a bunch of completely randomized tschotschkes. While I'm a sucker for this sort of thing usually we haven't found anything interesting on repeated visits. The music and vibe can be interesting or annoying, which goes double for the Re-Collector himself; he seems to be a bit moody. The store's pretty cramped, too, so go in with your claustrophobia under control and I recommend not taking any bags in, either. Worth a buzz-by if you like random odd used stuff stores, but not a can't miss one-of-those-things IMHO.

On the way out the guy behind the counter politely asked what we were looking for and said they had a ton more at home. He said they had more at home than in the shop. I'm not sure if they are holding back for personal collection or if they are selling on eBay. Either way, it would nice to see some fresh titles in the store and weed out some of the tired stock that isn't moving.

Their prices are the fairest I've seen and the service is always friendly and top notch. Additionally, it's a warm, welcoming indie music venue that hosts unique, surprisingly wonderful shows! It's a jewel of Berkshire County. The decor is spectacular too.
