At least two of the three guides spoke fluent English but just because it's a tourism office, it's not necessarily a guarantee that that's the case. Because we came to Montpellier on our own (not with a guided tour), there wasn't anything particular we were looking for. Most of the city sights can be seen by walking, bus, or tram. Overall, they were helpful when needed and there's a lot of useful information and guides inside if you're a tourist or even from some other part of France coming here for vacation.

Is this the world's most gorgeous modern train station? Possibly! The architect has done a…read morewonderful job on this eye pleasing building. There's an incredible bakery on the ground level that cannot be skipped. Serving sandwiches on some of the best bread I have ever eaten, plus a range of delicate sweet treats. Downsides: A few more food and beverage options would be great. There's a need for much more seating. The indoor platforms were boiling hot. It would be great to get some air-conditioning on that level.

The TGV is an excellent and speedy way to travel in France…read more I think the service is really excellent and puts Britain deeply in the shade. Often, if you have a funeral to get to, this can be much speedier than trying to book a fkight and all the waiting around that goes with it. We have travelled both by day, and in a sleeping compartment, and both are very comfortable. I did find my dreams slightly odd during the night trip though! The conductors are slightly brusque, but once you've sorted their accents, its Ok! Recommend thoroughly.

This was a really great day, and apparently virtually unknown to people who live outside of France!…read more The trip is especially delightful if you go on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, as you will hit the street market in St. Jean (on Tuesday) or in Anduze (on Thursday), the latter of which is pretty massive. It's a fabulous ride through the French countryside, and the steam engine is a good show all in itself. Ride about half-way back in the train if you want the best pictures of the locomotive on the curves. (The train is so long in August, that the end is too far back!) The train was PACKED with French families, all of whom seemed to be having a wonderful day - especially when the train entered the tunnel and all the kids would holler. We had lunch at a Brasserie in St. Jean du Gard, which was just perfect for the two hour layover there. Just happened upon this attraction, and at 15 euros per adult (5 euros for kids, I think - 3 euros for your dog!) it's way more reasonable than a comparable excursion in the US. If you like steam train rides, this is a winner!
