Compared to the French slopes, government budget is obviously not the same in Italy. Everything is very outdated and badly maintained. They slap paint over rust. When there's not a lot of snow then they don't spray snow as there's hardly sprayers. They just close everything down. Waste of money on a ski pass. Very inconvenient connections, lots of walking and you just spend a lot of time on lifts overal as most are slow and old. The buildings and cafeterias are also old but that got its charm. You can also see the leftovers of the Turin Olympic Games in 2006 however quite sad its gone glory. Glad I'm on the French side and I won't waste another day on the Italian side!

We stayed in a part of Sestriere called Borgata. I can recommend it cause it's a cuter and more genuine part of town. The village of Sestriere is not that pretty unfortunately. Perhaps because of the time when it was originally built to a big ski resort, and perhaps because of the Olympic Games. But the slopes are good! Both for kids, medium and advanced skiers (though advanced skiers will need to use the entire ski system, including neighboring villages). - They should really have wind covers over the chair lifts! And I've had much better food in the Italian Alps than here. + The slopes and the ski system (apart from not being able to get from one system to the other easily)

I've been here years and years ago. It was before the Olympic Games, but it was already known that…read morethey would come to Sestriere. I think it was in the early '00. Our feelings then was: they need money for better and more lifts and restaurants. Now at least 10-15 years later I still have that feeling. On all levels the can learn from other (Italian) skiing areas. In the way you prepar your slopes and you maintain them during the day. In the way you use artificial snow. In the choice of lifts. All chairlifts without protection from the elements (roofs?) and very slow. On the Italian side you'll find more and cheaper restaurants but older and slower lifts. On the french side it's just opposite. The're enough slopes for a variety of tours. Unfortunatly we weren't able to use them to the full extent because of very, very bad weather conditions. Álmost no snow in that week of January 2016. Most skiërs are from nearby Torino and are only skiing in the weekends. Most other tourists are from the UK. The prices for a pas are very, very reasonable. But be aware of what your buying. Not all passes give acces to the international skiing area. Most of them just one day out of 6-7. If I could offer one advice: go on a training to Dolomiti Superski. The're is so much more possible with this beautiful area.

Although clean and tidy, the decor looks like its come straight from 1989 but this is pretty standard for most Alpine hotels. It drops the 5th star for 2 reasons; the rooms can get quite cold as the windows are fairly draughty, and its quite far from the ski lift (though it does operate a free transfer service to compensate). It is well located for the nightlife though, and the breakfast selection is pretty good.

Great place to stay for visiting the Gran Bosco national park or doing some offroad driving in the…read moremountains. You'll find lots of Enduros and 4x4 cars so don't expect a quiet place ;-) The facilities are ok. The is a good restaurant and helpful staff. The town (Oulx) with shopping and Cafés is just a couple of km away...

They're reasonably priced, they have always been there waiting when we've got to Turin airport and the best thing is you get dropped at the door of your hotel. :) As someone who has been skiing for years I fully recommend them.
