This business is hopeless. I made an online order two weeks ago, never received, never heard anything back. I called them, sent them messages but nobody responded. Just stay away! read more

Yesterday I went along to purchase 2xboxes of rather cumbersome office furniture and upon arriving there was a staff member available to serve me (the store was busy, so unlike other stores they had numerous people on the floor available to help) and he even approached me, asking if I needed assistance. The staff member cheerfully went to fetch my boxes, walked me to the checkout and waited with me, then walked me to the carpark and put the boxes in my car! (It's a sign of the times that I'm shocked this would actually happen in real life Sydney.) I also used the laminating service, where the staff member was really friendly, attentive, and clearly knew what she was doing. When I told her I was fine to pick up my items the following day she said she would try to get them finished while I was still in the store! This is not the first time I have experienced this type of service (but I warn you, only at THIS Officeworks store, I have actually sent emails of complaint to head office about Broadway, where I was fined for parking, legally in THEIR carpark, while shopping.) Whatever Officeworks Alexandria are doing to train their staff, they are doing it right! Parking (1 hour) is available right out front in a small purpose-built carpark. Head to Officeworks Alexandria and enjoy the difference.

Doris Day plays in the background, the tattoo covered sales girl keeps on her toes serving people and suits walk in and out on their lunch break. It's a mixed bag of influences this wee shop. There are pink staplers, helvetica letters, guitar on canvas, floral birds with twigs on another canvas, sweet owls and skeletons. Like I said, quite a mix. I like that it encourages the creative in all of us - stencils and stickers and craft paper. I don't like so much the hipster approach. Enter, black and white mug with "I listen to bands that don't even exist yet". It's a p1ss take I'm sure. Another paradox - it has an element of too-cool-for-school but also the cute-and-creative theme going on. Good gifts for the under 30's.

After going to a dress-up store that offered a rental for $80, I walked along oxford street to find some inspiration (not that type of inspiration) and entered Smart Dollar to see what they had. I was after a Mexican cowboy outfit, and found exactly what I was looking for, it was $21.95, and although it said 'keep away from fire' I bought it, and survived the night. I left the store with shot glasses, 10 for $3.00, straws, plastic cups, napkins, and other great party supplies. They also had a great array of kitchen supplies that I will think about going back and getting, as I'm keen to see what the quality will be like.

There are many other places in the world where…read moreone can step into a dollar store and expect that each and every item inside costs one single solitary dollar, and no more. Even though that doesn't seem be the way in this Darlinghurst variety shop, I can still appreciate a bargain when I see one. With an array of random odds and ends, this catch-all shop is a good place to look for that strange item you don't know where else to find. With Halloween approaching, the novelty of a store like this goes way up. Need some devil horns? What about a fairy wand? Smart Dollar has these items, as well as all the other cliche spooky necessities. I personally purchased a quad pack of craft glitter for $2.50. But trust that it took every single bit of will power to not walk out of there with a japanese lunch box and a 10 pack of pocket tissues.

Typo has a new line of - let's broadly call it stationery- called !Ay Caramba. Yes, I have put the exclamation point in the right place. No, it's not a 'typo', har har. It's not JUST stationery, of course. It's everything a high schooler might need to look a little cooler, and make school a little less boring. Funky pencil cases, pens, and satchels. Satchels are important, in high school, as I recall. Folders, binders, journals, notebooks, wall art, desk accessories.. it's all here, and it's all awesome, you can take my word for it.
