And since we have been here before, it was a more relaxing visit. So much history. Things to do: Landmarks, Alcazaba, Castles, churches, museums (Picasso but so many more!), markets, restaurants (food!), ancient ruins, plazas, look outs, shopping/malls, etc. Other things to do that we did not do: Gardens, parks, beaches, etc. See all my other reviews. Ambiance - Beautiful historic city. Easy in and out via the cruise ship/port. 398 square KM. Population approximately 600,000. Service - Overall good. They cater to tourists. Price - Tourist prices. It also depends on what you do, eat, or drink. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since the 8th century BC. One of the oldest cities in Spain.

Spain does a great job with their cruise ports…read more They are usually in the heart of the city, making it so easy to walk ashore on your own and enjoy. Malaga is no different. It was a bit of a walk from the ship to the beach and the city, but the view was spectacular. The Mediterranean Sea to your right and the commanding Castillo de Gibralfaro ahead perched on the bluff. At the entrance of the port was a huge city map. I snapped a picture of it to help me as I wandered the city. If you are not into wandering, a gorgeous massive public beach is right there at the entrance. Also for shopper and dinners, a long marina facing mall is to the left. Enjoy local foods or dishes from around the world here. A complete shopping center for the spenders.

" Wonderful Small Spanish Town Tucked Away "…read more My wife and I visited the Mijas Plaza De Toros just off the Costa del Sol area in Mijas Spain. This small, stunning traditional Spanish town is tucked away in the high mountains. The town is so clean and well maintained with beautiful Spanish architecture. They have a park, many restaurants, hotels, a bull ring , beautiful and unique churches and more. This is a must visit for anyone who would come to this area. There are fantastic views, great shops and nice places to visit . Everything was very pretty and quaint in this town.

One of Spain's famed Pueblos Blancos, Frigiliana is a popular side trip for Costa del Sol visitors…read more It's SUPER touristy; the people who vacation at just one beach area and stay there the whole time--except a half-day bus trip here (This is just a 10-15min drive from Nerja)--rave about this as a "must see" because it's the only thing different they see in their whole trip. This is not what I would call a "must see" in Spain. If you're in Nerja go to the caves instead (Fundación Cueva de Nerja and/or Cueva del Tesoro). Frigiliana is a pretty scenic village, full of overpriced tourist shops, but lacking in any history. If you are the cruise ship-type vacationer who just wants somewhere to get steps, buy junk, and nurse a hangover, sure, Frigiliana is your place. My husband couldn't wait to get out of there. I'm all for callejear (wandering the streets) but you will get so much more out of that activity in the Juderia of Córdoba or the Albaicín in Granada. There just wasn't enough interest or history for us in Frigiliana. When I was trip planning restaurants to enjoy lunch in Frigiliana, and one of them was already booked for every time slot months in advance, it was clear I didn't want to eat there. We spent about a half hour there (paid €4 for "free" parking), and left. The only redeeming thing was the cat sanctuary. We spent money to donate there rather than buy a stupid magnet. Adios Frigiliana!

The views are amazing, the town…read moreitself is very quaint and has shops and restaurants but not too many so it has a local vibe in some of the quiet Reas toward the top. There is a bus every hour to Nerja. You take the bus from Nerja to Frigiliana. If you stay in central Malaga the bus leaves from the main station but you can save time walking there if you research the route and wait at one of the stops along the way.closest to your hotel. If central, Estacion Muelle Heredia on the N-340 across from Soho. "Muelle" does not come up in google maps all the time, but it is written on the stop/mini station. Be sure to be on the south side of the street if going to Nerja ie the Mediterranean / Alboran Sea / port side. Once you arrive in Nerja stay at that same station and cross the street. You pay the bus driver direct. Websites said exact change only but someone used a credit card. Once you arrive in Frigiliana get off at the main drop off next to the playground and near a round about. The bus for us stopped before that in Old Town. We spent most of our time walking up and down little alleys where people lived and or rented houses. We also browsed the boutiques, had coffee and ate linch with an incredible view of the sea and mountains. Beautiful. Nerja has a more beach tourist vibe, this place has a quaint, relaxed and in places sophisticated vibe. You need 3-4 hours to get a feel for the place. We spent 4 hours here and 4 hours in Nerja. Absolutely worth a visit.

The location also offers gorgeous views of the harbor, Mediterranean sea, and the bull ring. There is an accessible entrance for anyone visiting with kids in strollers or a relative in a wheelchair. Free on Sundays after 2p!

Best 360 views of Malaga! It is ~20-minute walk uphill without pausing so do wear comfortable…read moreshoes, bring water, and take caution if you have mobility concerns. The walk up to the castle offers very nice views of the city. The paid portion gives entry into the walled complex at the top and is ~3€. The complex itself is mostly just the walls, which you can walk around all sides of and get stunning views of the city, harbor/sea, and mountains. The grounds contain a few information cards. One terrace had been turned into a cafe, so there really isn't much beyond completing the wall walk. Some of the views are identical to the Alcazaba too (at least on the sea-facing side and old town), so definitely go there if you have mobility concerns and are unable to hike this far up. Got very pleasant weather when I went so I lucked out. Worth a visit!

It dates back to the Romans and the market place since the 15th century, hence the name, mercado- market. Here is a statue of Pablo Picasso, since his childhood home is at number 15 in the plaza. The house is now a museum and headquarters of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation. There is also a statue of General Riego, it honors him and 48 of his friends who killed by orders of Ferdinand VII for their part in the 1820 uprising. At the time of my visit in 2024, there were not many trees for shade. There was a lot of construction at one end of the plaza. So in the summer be prepared for the hot sun

Plaza de la Merced has many reasons why people visit...first of all, the square is a nice relaxing…read morespot not far from the historic center. Then it is right by the Picasso birthplace museum and house. Also, it's full of nice open patio restaurants where people can eat or drink while doing some nice people-watching. Several gay businesses, bars and restaurants are located around this area, making it the "rainbow" section of Malaga. During late April and early May, the Jacaranda trees start blooming and the beautiful purple flowers make this a great place to visit. There's a market on Sunday mornings in the square.
