Now I love a good BBQ mix plate/platter and as soon as I saw it was on their menu (Hawaiian BBQ Mix), I was sold and had to try it. The BBQ mix came with beef, ribs (Kalbi), and chicken. My favorite is usually ribs and this Kalbi was no different. Fell right off the bone and had such a delicious flavor. The chicken was juicy and perfectly marinated and barbecued. The beef had a delicious marinade as well, but it was a bit tough, still good though. I usually eat this plate/platter for two different meals or split this with a friend. While the food was delicious, the wait time was a bit long for to-go. We only had one person ahead of us and it took over 25 minutes for our one order to be ready. Ordering ahead over the phone would probably be the best idea for the future. Really easy otherwise to get in and out as there is plenty of parking on the plazas lot. Overall the menu options here are the same as other Hawaiian BBQ chains in SD. Nothing crazy different. Happy to have another convenient spot to go to! read more

We came here years ago and weren't thrilled, but recently decided to go back on a whim and we were surprised with how good it was! Experience. Place your order at the counter and wait for it to be ready. Ours took about 20 minutes but there were a lot of orders being picked up, and people dining in at the same time. The person that took our order was friendly and knowledgeable. She answered a lot of my questions, and was patient with me. This place is super casual with perimeter seats and some round tables in the middle. I didn't notice a restroom, so you'll want to ask where the nearest one is. Food. The food was fresh, and the veggies in the Ohana bowl were fresh too! It's such a good find especially since a lot of places use frozen veggies these days. The portion for the half order is perfect for 1 person, and the bowl is perfect for 1 as well. The rice is cooked perfectly! Overall a solid Hawaiian food option in the Oceanside/Fallbrook area. I always order the mixed plate with Katsu chicken and BBQ beef. It comes with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. At the time of this review, a mixed plate is $16.99 but it's a substantial amount of food, usually enough for two separate meals. Food is pretty consistent. Katsu chicken is always crispy even by the time I get my food home. BBQ beef is marinated well but sometimes the pieces are too big and therefore a bit chewy. Macaroni salad is good. If you would like to substitute a scoop of rice with mac salad, there is a $1.25 upcharge. You can call in your order ahead of time, although there was one time we called a few times with no answer. When we drove by later, planning to order in person, there was a crowd with a single employee inside. The katsu was perfectly crispy without being oily and paired so well with the katsu sauce. All of the bbq meats were pretty flavorful as well. The mac salad was creamy and delicious. This is always my favorite side! We also ordered the loco moco, which was one of the best we've had from a hawaiian bbq restaurant. The egg was over easy but still had a runny yolk, and they gave a ton of meat. The spam musubis were pretty average - they were kind of bland and didn't have enough sauce. OMG soooo good! We came in for lunch around 1130 on Sunday, it was just starting to fill up with what looked like locals. The young man behind to counter was so sweet, big smile, he greeted us immediately, and was helpful and polite throughout our visit. I ordered the kalua pork, my go-to order whenever I can find it. My husband said he thought it was better than L&L, I totally agree. It was amazing, mouthwatering, so flavorful, and the portion was so big we both shared some for lunch and dinner. My husband ordered the cheese burger and fries, the burger was freaking delicious. I would go back for the burger alone, it was so impressive. The fries were shoestring, crispy and perfectly fried. Everything came out of the kitchen hot, fresh and quick! The restaurant is in a shopping center full of stores. Inside it's a bright, cute, little corner shop in a great location next to the theater. I really enjoyed my meal from here, it was delicious! I ordered from a food delivery service and it came hot and fresh. The combo entree with shrimp and chicken katsu was delicious! The shrimp is huge and fried perfectly. The mac salad is a must get. I really liked how big the portion was. I really liked their house salad as well, the addition of the pineapples made it extra delicious and had that added flavor. I wasn't a huge fan of the spam musubi, the spam tasted odd, but the bbq chicken musubi was VERY good. Really delicious food, but can't comment on the service. The shave ice, strawberry and banana flavor was more like cherry kool-aid over crushed ice. No where near what you would get in Hawaii. The Mac salad took me back to the days when I vacationed in Hawaii. The place was 85% full with diners and there was someone in line at all times during my stay. So it was bustling. Service was a little slow but it was well worth it. I could tell my dish was prepared fresh and it came out steaming hot. The panko shrimp was butterflied so it was easy to dip in sauce and eat and informally covered in panko. You bus your own table when you finish I had to leave more than half my dish uneaten. Ordered two of the BBQ chicken plates. The meat was lowest possible quality, overcooked and dry, and probably 70% of it was either fat or gristle and not edible. I had to peel skin and fat off in sheets. Gross. White meat would have made it 10 times better. On a positive note, the macaroni salad and rice were both great and cooked perfectly, but could have benefited from a little teriyaki sauce (not provided). This'll be quick: Made a huge order for a party. Was told to pay on the day of pick up. On day of pick up, was told that because I did not put down any type of deposit, they did not do the order. Few things: 1. Had I been told a deposit was a condition of them starting the order, then obviously I would have paid the deposit or the full price. I was expressly told to pay on the day of pick up. 2. If they had any organizational skills they could have called with a "reminder" to pay the deposit, during which time I would have identified their not having told me, but still would have time to pay and have the order made. I arrive at 6:35 to pick up the order to find out that they haven't started the order. Their excuse was that "we didn't know if you had paid in advance and didn't make the order". They never called phone number I put on the order to confirm, so I didn't reasonably realize that it was an issue to begin with. Well, instead of trying to remedy the issue or understand the problem, they instead were making more excuses to cover the fact that they had messed this up. I want to preface that the staff and the restaurant itself are not the reason for this review. I spent $25 for a single spam musubi and a chicken katsu meal. Mind you this didn't even include a drink. I'm not a fan of how their musubi is prepared because the spam isn't marinated and the seaweed is only around the middle third so whichever end you don't bite usually falls out. There are about four chickens per person in the world and both rice and spam are not luxury food items so I don't understand why this place is so expensive. read more

I've lived in the area for 13 years now and Ohana has been the same ever since I first moved into town. The food is bland, overpriced and as usual, horrible. My partner and I were in the area, had to wash some weighted blankets at the coin laundry since our washer at home couldn't handle them, when we got hungry for lunch. We decided to pick up some spam musubi, but alas, I should've trusted my memories of this place. The spam was absolutely horrible. It looked old and barely browned. It seemed like they were microwaved! The rice was so mushy, the sauce is extremely gingery with no other real flavor to it, and the seaweed was a thin strip that barely held together.
