I have donated to this organization several times. When I needed help the trapped doesn't even have the common courtesy to contact me back. If he can't trap I asked for a loaner trap. I can trap and do it myself there are 2 feral cats tipped ear and an older kitten out here being physically abused by a neighbor here . Kitten I may be able to get without trap. The 2 others no. I have placement for all of them and I am their feeder and I'm moving. read more

I am so thankful to Kelly for helping me save a tiny bird! Somehow a little bird got stuck on a rat glue board that was in my garage. I didn't see it until 4+ hours later. I was panicking and didn't know what to do! Called San Ramon PD, Animal control, some wildlife rescues, 6-7 vets but no one was able to help me. I poured a lot of oil over the bird and was able to get his feet free, but I was too scared to do anything more. My SIL then left a message for Ohlone Humane Society. Kelly called her back right away and informed her that they will close in the next few minutes, but I can bring the bird to her house. Took me 30 min to go from SR to Fremont - kept checking on the bird to make sure he was alive! Kelly was able to remove the bird from the trap in just about a minute. The bird was ready to fly away but Kelly said she will keep him for 2-3 weeks or until he grows his feather back and then release him. I am soo glad Kelly called us back right away; she was his only hope. Thank you Kelly for going out of your way to save the little guy! read more

Dropped a bird today that my neighbor had found injured. The staff was so helpful in guiding me through the process and it was quick. The volunteers at this location are motivated to help the animals and birds in need of help. We need to do more to ensure such organizations are funded and supported by the people of Fremont and the local community. read more

I called sulphur creek nature center to see if they accepted a baby opossum that I found . They referred me to Ohlone humane society . My husband couldn't find the place because they GPS just stops in an industrial area. Tip : The lady at the sulphur creek center told me the GPS will stop in the middle of industrial area . You have to keep driving straight through the industrial buildings until you pass railroad tracks . Then you will see the Ohlone humane society sign on the right . It will be on the right side . My brother was able to find it. read more

Thank you to OHS for the S/N vouchers! Our neighborhood community cats are all fixed, and there are no longer kittens born and suffer on the streets! OHS is volunteer-run and volunteer based, and supported by community donations. It's amazing how they can run so many programs helping the community. For people who "demand' instant services, how about volunteering and donating? Their volunteers are unpaid, doing it to help people and animals in the community on the top of their full-time jobs! They don't have "staff" to main phones 24/7! Whoever complains about not getting calls back to report to you on a status of an animals, do sign up and volunteer yourself! read more

Today I called the humane society in order to get help for a baby bird that I found yesterday. First they took forever to answer the phone and the lady on the other end was not amused that I was asking for help. Before I was able to give her the full story of him needing help and describing what was wrong ( he seemed gimpy from falling out of a nest in a cat infested neighborhood and there was no mother bird around) she was quick to tell me what I was doing wrong and I should have left it alone. I was getting frustrated with the service and told her that she wasn't taking into account all the information. She was very insist that I was going to kill the bird and I would be at fault. She told me to bring it in but after the service I had gotten I don't feel comfortable leaving an animal in need with them. read more

The Ohlone Humane Society Wildlife Rehabilitation Center seems to be the only place to take injured wildlife in the Tri-City area (Fremont, Newark and Union City). A young starling flew into one of our windows and was badly stunned, so after putting him on a towel in a large box and moving him to a cool, quiet place in the garage, I quickly researched local wildlife rehab centers, and the City of Fremont website led me to Ohlone. They checked out the bird, who ended up being OK, and I picked it up a little later and released it in the backyard. Note that the Center is a bit hard to find and google map directions were incorrect (the google map on Yelp is right, however). You want to take Thornton Ave. to Hickey St., and drive past the office park, through the paved parking/loading area, toward the chainlink fence. As you approach the fence, you'll see a sign for the Center, and you'll bear right on a paved one-lane road. The Center is on the left. read more

The review on the Ohlone Humane Society (OHS) Spay/Neuter program was just noted -I believe I spoke with this person who has done individual rescue for a number of years, and she was referred to the low-cost clinic OHS uses that is very qualified and very reasonable. We must use the limited assistance funds we have for truly needy individuals as our program guidelines clearly state: very low-income, on public assistance or feral cat caretakers. The 10.00 fee mentioned for cats is a co-payment that applies to feral cats only, the clinic charges more for socialized cats that will be adopted out. Both cats mentioned were domestics. Also, we are unable to underwrite the efforts of individual rescuers because of our limited funding. This person simply didn't not fit within our guidelines and was very unhappy that we could not accomodate her. Doing rescue has financial responsibilities that go with the good work involved. If that is not an option then it is suggested that people join a nonprofit rescue organization the pays for these basic costs. If she chooses to discontinue her individual efforts that is, of course, her choice. Funds permitting, OHS does not turn away qualified people. I'm giving OHS 5 stars because we assisted with or paid entirely for more than 1,000 spay/neuter surgeries in 2012. read more

I called the Ohlone Humane Society Wildlife Rehab. Center to report an injured crow, it had a wing injury and unable to fly. The crow was at a neighborhood park and in view. I called Ohlone and reached their answering machine left my name and number for a call back for advice. In the mean time I put water out for it and kept track of it. I called Ohlone 3 days in a row and never received a call back for advice on rescue. Day 4, I haven't seen the crow all day. I have no idea what happened to it. I'm very disappointed in Ohlone Wild Life Rescue, I thought I would get a call back. read more

The Ohlone Humane Society Spay and Neuter program is not dedicated to help all dogs and cats that people find and want to have them fixed. Apparently, this is a program for people that do not have money. I talked to a leader/her name will remain private but she told me that we have better means than other people therefore, we could not get any assistance with the 2 stray cats and a dog that was dumped at a local dog park. Amazing? I found it ridiculous, we opened our home and hearts to abandoned babies and we cannot get any help. So, what is the purpose of having these oganizations if they are more interested in your income(which by the way it is NOT more than the average person). We could have had the two cats spayed for $10.00 each and we ended up paying about $120.00 each*(we had to spaced them out since we don't have that kind of money around ). Then, a young female dog was abandoned and we tried and tried to find he owners. Now, she lives here and we will have to once again wait a while before we can put the money together to have her spayed, vaccinated, microchipped. Why? Because they refused to give us assistance. Yet, we have done animal rescue for many years and when you try to be a good Samaritan, they refuse to help you. Will I rescuce again..probably not..I will take them to the shelter or leave them there....cannot afford this anymore.
