My wife and I were hesitant to try out this place because of the 3.5 star review but we were lazy and it was close. I ordered a custom frap that wasn't on the menu and my wife got a mango turmeric smoothie. The staff was extremely accommodating and made sure I liked the drink they made me... the drink was amazing. It was like my tongue was enveloped in tender bliss. I also tried the mango turmeric smoothie. My poor little body couldn't handle the flavor surge of untainted euphoria. Out on a motorcycle ride & stopped in at this spot for the first time. We were very pleased! Great casual ambience & good selection of coffee & tea. Hubby & I split a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce & it was plenty for two. We got a side salad with our sandwich which was full of tasty fresh greens dressed with a light vinaigrette. My green tea was excellent. And the homemade chocolate brownie was fabulous! A little pricey but great quality food & service with a personal touch. We'll definitely return. read more

Such a cool place in Downtown Ojai. While on a yoga retreat, a few of us escaped the compound for an excursion into the city. While wandering the streets, I noticed the aroma of caramel and espresso. I followed my nose to it's origin and immediate got into line for a caffeinated beverage. I ordered a dirty vanilla chai (chai tea latte with an add shot of espresso) and it was delish. The shot wasn't overpowering and the tea had a nice flavor. Because it was cold, it was the perfect way to warm me up before hitting the mean streets of this small town. One of my fellow yogis went the mocha route and proclaimed it was delicious as she gulped it down before we had a chance to walk outside. The place is super small with quite a few spots to sit inside. It seems to be a local favorite since it was pretty packed around 3PM in the afternoon. Because it's small, it gets stuffy really quick, making it one of the reasons why took our beverage to go. They roast their own beans, so a lot of people come to pick up and go. Lines can be long, but the friendly cashiers get people through moderately quick. The spot serves breakfast and lunch or if you're looking for a smaller bite, a case full of delicious pastries, too. We didn't eat since we had consumed food shortly before our visit, but the salads and sandwiches being delivered to the tables look fresh and delicious. As one of the shop vendors told me, "It's definitely a must while visiting our downtown." She was right. read more

I never had any "bad" coffee during my visit, but from the places I tried, Ojai Coffee Roasting Co. has to be my favorite. It's really about all the choices of different coffee blends you have here. We were lucky enough have a tasting of several blends where the staff was very well informed and passionate about their coffee facts. The city of Ojai itself is a very unique and tranquil place, and this coffee shop adds to that local quality. It's one of those getaway cities where no one can find you, and its not far from LA but far enough where you can take a weekend to just feel at home away from home. This coffee shop is the perfect place to finish up some work, write, and enjoy time to gather your thoughts. Well, I should say first off that I am a bit of a "coffee snob." I have been spoiled enough to drink great quality lattes most of my life and spent many of my coming-of-age years working as a barista, so perhaps my standards are higher than average. That said, I have tried a number of times to like this place as I am dying to have a solid, centrally-located coffee spot in my new home town. I have been disappointed almost every single time. They have routinely messed up my very simple drinks, even when they are super slow. It seems that no matter who is working, the person at the cash register and the one standing three feet from her making the drinks have a terribly hard time communicating. When they have made drinks with the correct ingredients (maybe less than half the times I have been there, they are often cold or poorly made. The girls working seem nice enough, but whenever I am in there I feel like I am in the middle of a kind of high school gossip circle. Which I really can't dis them for. It is just the nature of several young folks working together. It just doesn't happen to be where I want to hang out and spend time trying to study or have a quiet conversation with someone. All in all, this is probably a good spot to stop with the fam on a Sunday and get a lemonade and a sandwich or something, but it basically sucks for studying and the espresso drinks are a consistent waste of money. In my mind, a coffee shop is all about the drinks and the environment - so, to me, Ojai Coffee Roasting Company is a flop. read more

I get to pop the cherry on one of my fave coffee places! At first i wondered why a local didn't review OCR, and then I realized... they don't want to give away the secret. OCR is Ojai's best coffee place. Great ambiance, central location, friendly service and terrific coffee. Oh, did I mention the free wifi? We were also charged for our second shot which means that if you order a short Americano you're basically drinking a cup of coffee-flavored hot water. No thank you. I was enjoying a cup of joe with my friends, and a man was sitting next to us with his computer and his coffee. I came here for an iced coffee and some beans. This is one of the only places in the area that roasts their own beans, so in I went! I normally visit Bean Crazy in Thousand Oaks for my beans, but I wanted to try a new place (and this is the next closest that roasts their own!). The iced coffee was good, nothing to rave about. But you know, it was iced coffee...how good can it really beeee? I bought some of their Dark Colombian roast beans (only ~$12 a pound, and I got a discount on my iced coffee!). I finally tried them out at home in my French press. Delicious! This is a strong, bold coffee, and tasted like everything I love. I highly recommend those beans! As for the cafe, I didn't try any food, but it looked like a hip, tasty place to grab some grub. Next time I am in Ojai, I think I shall try it out. read more

Well, two stars for the cream cheese brownie. It had rich chocolate but the cream cheese layer was not thick enough. It was also very sweet with no room for any subtlety of flavor. The espresso was another story. It was terrible. The overwhelming taste was of acrid charcoal, charred toast, and sour wet fallen leaves. Maybe even worse than Starbucks. Yeeugh! I was also disappointed in the outdoor seating. I know it's Ojai, but there was only a tiny table right next to the door where I kept getting bumped. Not the best way to chill out and enjoy a nice afternoon. If you're looking for coffee in Ojai, I suggest you head up to Bohemia, where they have Beacon Coffee. It's only a block away. read more

This was a really bad cup of coffee. It tasted more like whiskey minus the burn and that is just not appealing to me. The line was ridiculously long for such a subpar cup of drip. And what happened to the giant roaster that use to reside up front? It's been years since I've been here... so does this mean they don't roast their own beans anymore? Is this where the quality went? Stopped here for lunch and coffee traveling into town from LA before heading to a yoga retreat. Got the Muffaletta Sandwich and split it with a friend. Delicious and huge! Splitting it was the right choice. Great iced coffee. My two friends were happy with their choices too. Came back 2 days later for coffee and tea before hitting the road. What a great coffee place. The woman who took our order I think was the owner was a fantastic and funny lady. If I lived here I would be there every day just to chat with her. My latte was PERFECT. One of my favorite places to have coffee, meet friends, and do some work on the wifi. It can get crowded, depending on the time of day, and there are plugs available for power. Friendly staff. Somehow we always look around the coffee options in Ojai and end up back at Ojai Coffee Roasting Company again.....they have the best selection of sandwiches and cakes and they roast their own coffee/sell their own beans. Plus we always get friendly service. So, we went in for coffee on Saturday to be met with 2 huge sheet cakes and a warm welcome from the owner - she was offering free cake to her customers for their support during 20 years in the business! We managed to grab a seat and some granola/quiche and she brought over 2 huge servings of lemon and chocolate cakes - YUM! Then a local band walked in and sat down and started to play great music, locals poured in to mix with the tourists and day visitors, including 2 gals on horseback who asked a punter to hold the reins while they ordered. It was an amazing atmosphere and the owner fed everyone cake, tidied up, bussed tables, took orders and greeted everyone. One woman wonder! The gals sat outside while their horses watched the band through the window, and we sat watching them watching the band.....lol. We bought a pound of coffee before we left and couldn't decide between a couple so the owner blended them together to create a unique coffee, just for us! This is obviously a great coffee hang out which has strong local support. We visit every time we are in Ojai. We will definitely be back :) read more

While on a weekend expedition to Santa Barbara we choose to head into Ojai for a hike, but not before I sipped on some espresso! Nestled in the center of the town of Ojai the quaint little coffee shop delivered just what I needed... delicious coffee freshly ground and brewed. Had we not already has breakfast at the hotel I'm certain we would have ingested some of the amazing selection of baked goods that looked very tempting. When I visit Ojai once or twice a month, I sometimes stop here for my cup-O-Joe, if for no other reason than the fact that it's easy to find and parking isn't too bad. You also get a decent view of the locals & tourists perusing up and down the street, which is always entertaining in Ojai. To start with, the drink quality here has never disappointed me. It's consistently good regardless of whether you order a hot or cold drink. Something blended, brewed or pressed. I really like that and it's becoming an increasingly rare thing lately. The staff here have always been friendly, helpful, cheerful and seem to have genuine fun working. The good vibes are great for business! I also like the fact that they keep a glass jar of cold water with cups available for customers so you don't have to stand in line just to wet your whistle or water your dog. Oh, and a recent update - The prices have gone up - way up. They make Starbucks look like a real bargain now. Not sure what changed, but it's out of my price range. I paid $16 and change for 2 flavored iced lattes. That's $8 each! Ouch!!! I occasionally order their Ojai Julius blended drink and it's really good! However the wait times for drinks tend to be on the long side. The facility itself is old and not always as clean as it should be. The floor is frequently dirty and looks like it could use a good mopping. The restrooms are decent, but require a key for entry. Also I've come here and found the table surfaces sticky and with crumbs or spills on them. I've even found the chairs with food spilled on them. One thing that I've always found curious is that the service line runs counter-intuitive. At most coffee establishments, you line up in front of the pastry case, then place your order and then proceed to the serving bar. Here, people line up at the serving bar and then go to the cash register. This results in patrons standing at the bar waiting for their drinks while new customers try to squeeze by to place their orders. In the meantime, the pastry case is ignored, unless you're going to the restroom... Note to management - take a close look at this if you want to increase pastry sales and avoid conflicts. Although there is outside seating, it's extremely sparse. Only two tiny tables with 3 or 4 chairs. One table is positioned inside the entry nook, so you're in the way of people coming and going. The other table is on the sidewalk without any awning or shade, so it can get pretty warm in the summer. On Sundays, the Dry Cleaner next door is closed and although it's posted "No Parking" - you can usually find a place to safely park there. read more

The staff is always so friendly here. If you're a local, they have a 10-stamp card! Their coffee cake is the best in town in my opinion. The owner, Stacy, is there every now and then and you can tell she cares about the shop. Lots of variety since all the beans are roasted here. This is my second time to Ojai, and I am in looove with this town. I came here with C. and while he was busy, I decided to do some exploring. That's when I found this cute little cafe, and love it! Ordered the Chai Latte and maple scone - both delicious. Lots of seating around and free WiFi (although the outlets are scarce). The owner of this place is rude. I ordered lox and bagel sandwiches and 2 cups of coffe for $50.00. She put all the ingredients in a bag for me to assemble in my hotel room. I asked her if she wouldn't mind putting them together she then lashed out in front of other customers. She proceeded to address me with a condescending tone. " would you like onions first? or lettuce first, then lox Or ...." and she went on. It was rude and embarrassing (on her behalf). I replied "it doesn't matter, whatever you do will be fine." She interrupted me with "just a yes or no answer will do." I am visiting here from Nashville, TN. For the film festival. I will not go back this week while staying in town.
