Amazing selection, great rolls, friendly staff, lots of seating, two areas with the sushi bar as well as a drink bar, restrooms, ample parking in street and around back, and reasonably priced with lots of specials. Definitely want to come back here

On the hunt to find the best crispy rice and so far this just took the #1 spot!! I liked how instead of jalepeno they had chili crunch. Made it a lot more flavorful and enjoyable! The place inside was super cute too and staff was very kind!

Instead of waiting at Kazunori I decided to come here since I was expected to wait approximately 2 hours. This was right across the street and they had great happy hour prices and plenty of seats! Would definitely come back for the happy hour. The sushi is just okay but for the price its fair.

The store is off Colorado. Plenty of indoor seating. They have a deal buy 3 sushi rolls get 1 free so we tried the sashimi roll, baked salmon, spicy tuna and yellowtail. All the rolls tasted delicious! The server was so awesome! I ws surprised and impressed for being a bar how kid friendly they are. He provided my child with crayons and a coloring page and checked on us often. Great vibes and great food here.

My favorite lunch spot ! They have prices and deals you can't beat. Their draft beer is always $1 and the sushi is always so delicious. Service is always fast and friendly and they usually let you choose the where to sit. They have cute decor and I like how the seating is spread out and not all jammed together like at other places.

    These low quality sushi

This place offers buy 3 rolls to get 1 free. Aside from the aforementioned buy 3 get 1 free offer...the fried blue crab appetizer had the old oil taste and the crab itself was less than fresh. Overrated sushi, slow service, overall below average. Won't come back and can't recommend this place.

Delicious food and wonderfully friendly service. Stopped by for lunch while strolling around. A great find!

Amazing customer service and happy hour special when I stopped by. Customer service was decent because it was one person managing the whole restaurant. The food was decent and tasted fresh but the main thing that caught my mouth was the cucumber salad. It was refreshing and something to take the heat from the hot day. I would come back for the cucumber salad easily.

Been meaning to try this restaurant for the longest, and I finally have. Came here on a Saturday afternoon with my best friend to eat after we went to the 17th Annual Pasadena Art Walk Event. What we ordered: - Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice - Angrytail Roll - Super Oji Special Roll Presentation was beautiful & and the so appetizing. Everything we ordered was spot on, no complaints on my end. The staff were very nice and service was fast. This spot is definitely being added to one of my fav sushi spots.

This place has been our go to sushi spot, good prices, great service and yummy food. There was a $1 draft beer on special. Limit was 2 beer per person. Still a great deal. They had another special on their collars, BOGO, yellowtail collar or salmon collar, you can mix and match. Really good deal and delicious! All the fish was fresh and yummy as usual. Try the flaming fire roll, came with a show, great way to get meat and some seafood all in one roll!! If you are lucky you can find parking in the back of the restaurant

Food was exceptional, service was fast and ambiance was lovely and quiet. We came for early dinner, happened to be happy hour with a glass of beer for a buck a win-win deal!

Dragon Roll Shrimp & Veggie Tempura Bluefin tuna nigiri Creamy mango roll
    Brittany P.

Solid happy hour spot in Pasadena playhouse area! Off the happy hour menu, we got the bluefin tuna nigiri, tempura, creamy mango, and dragon roll. They also offer $1 beer during this time! Overall would say food was pretty standard Japanese restaurant food, nothing super special. I think the creamy mango roll overdid the sweetness/mango a bit, though. There is a small parking lot with dedicated spaces in the back. Interior was clean and spacious. Service was attentive, as they often cleaned the table off of dishes and trash. Definitely a place to come back to with a friend who likes beer!

They were incredibly kind, checked on us every few minutes, kept us updated, and even comped part of our meal and surprised us all with complimentary dessert. That level of hospitality really stood out. A special shoutout to Sho, who took over our table. He was so charismatic, friendly, and genuinely made the whole experience so much better despite the wait. Honestly, if he ever decides to stop working here, he would make a great bombshell on Love Island The food was absolutely delicious, the ambiance was great, and everyone we interacted with was so sweet and attentive. Even though the wait was longer than expected, the amazing customer service more than made up for it. We really appreciated how much the staff cared about making things right, and we'll definitely be back!

Shabu is fresh, delicious and authentic. The Kurobuta Pork Loin is very lean and tasty. The Black Angus Ribeye also very nice. Their ponzu has something else added but really nice. Not sure if it had a dash of sake but love their ponzu sauce. Lunch time at counter for shabu fills up quickly so be ready to wait in line if all shabu stations are occupied. Still worth the wait. Once seated, you'll get served fairly quickly. Excellent and very friendly service. Love our initial experience here. Definitely will be back. Happy Eating!!!

Stumbled in on a Wednesday in the early evening, and had plenty of open seating to choose from…read more Immediately, I was cheerfully greeted and seated by one the servers, and then given two menus--a traditional folding menu with a padded backing I can really only describe as "satisfyingly textured," and a beautiful 3x8 wooden slab engraved with a QR code for the picture menu. I had planned to be phone-free for the hour, but curiosity bested me and I whipped out my phone for a scan. The bulgogi with rice and miso called to me, strangely, considering the heat outside. The atmosphere at this slow hour was so nice I almost wished it was raining. A few Clairo and The Marías songs later (at the perfect volume--audible, but still low enough to have a quiet chat) my miso soup arrived. Now, it's been a good few years since I've had miso soup, and I've never really been crazy about it, but this... this was some damn good soup. Liquid umami. Then the bulgogi and rice came. This is the best bulgogi I've ever had. So tender. Quite literally melted in my mouth. Punches of savory juice, tender fatty bits, golden brown perfectly caramelized onions, and a sweetness to bring it all together. Every bite was perfect. It washed over me and my shoulders and spine practically uncoiled themselves. I want to try more from the menu but... I'm... I'm going to need this again. Like tomorrow. I should say, especially for the price, this is a lot o' grub. A perfect filling portion, especially with the rice and soup. I had a smoothie a couple hours earlier so I really should've asked for a to-go box 80% of the way through... but I was just having too much fun stuffing my face to stop. To recap--lovely service, great music, and food to live for. And a restroom. It's not public, but they do have a restroom. Thank god for that restroom. I was hungry, yes, but more than anything I really needed that restroom.

My partner and I shared the rainbow roll, mango cha cha roll, lemon salmon roll, salmon bento box, and cheese bulgogi. I really enjoyed the creative specialty sushi rolls, with my favorite roll being the mango cha cha roll. It tasted savory from the crispy shrimp tempura, while the fresh mango on top added a nice, refreshing pop of sweetness. As for the lemon salmon roll, it tasted fresh and more citrus-forward. Surprisingly, the salmon bento box was very filling and balanced. This included 2 pieces of grilled teriyaki salmon, 4 pieces of California roll, mixed tempura, miso soup, and a small salad with dressing. For anyone who does not eat raw fish, this would be the perfect dish. For the cheese bulgogi, there was a sweet-savory soy garlic flavor. I liked that the meat was thinly sliced, which paired perfectly with the gooey melted cheese. However, it was a bit saltier than I'd like it to be. Some rice and miso soup was served alongside this to balance out the richness from the cheese. Service could have been better. It seems that the staff were not very attentive at times, even though the place was not busy. Nonetheless, all of the food was pretty good and there was a chill atmosphere. This is a solid sushi bar to visit for either lunch or dinner.

The fish here is incredibly fresh, but can we talk about the rice? Because that's what truly makes or breaks sushi. It was so flavorful, had the perfect hint of vinegar, and the texture was spot on, not too mushy, not too hard. A few highlights from our night: * The Rolls: They are huge! Seriously, they're long enough that you could easily share one between two people. * Lemon Roll: Absolutely awesome and so refreshing. * Yellowtail Hand Roll: Fantastic quality. * Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice: A total must-try. Highly, highly recommend ordering this! Beyond the food, the vibe inside is great--very lively with that bright, clean Japanese restaurant feel. The service was also absolutely impeccable from start to finish. For parking: Just park in the nearby street garage. It's only $1 for the first 90 minutes, which is a total steal for Old Town Pasadena. Love this place, we will definitely be back!

We ordered multiple nigiris, rolls, and appetizers for our table. The servers and staff seemed to not communicate with each other, leading to slow and sloppy service. The nigiris came out much later than the rolls and the bowls, to the point where half of our party was done eating before the first nigiri plate came out. In fact, the service was so slow that the servers started to clear our plates while we were waiting for them to bring out our food The servers were awkwardly clashing plates at our table and being difficult about refilling the water and tea. After dropping $800+ as a table, we were waiting on one last nigiri (Yellowtail Belly) to come out. We asked our waiter to check on it for us, and he came back to us saying it should have been on the plate that had the other Yellowtail Nigiri on it. The reason why we brought this up in the first place is because the two didn't come out together. He then brings another waitress who tells us it should have come out already, and then another who tells us completely different information (i.e. it came out with different fish). Overall an unpleasant experience. Would not be back again nor would I recommend this place to anyone, especially since they made such a big deal out of $10 nigiri on a $800 bill.

HAKATA SET (Your choice of: Tonkotsu or Miso Ramen, comes with Mini Spicy Tuna Don, Chicken Karaage 2 pcs, Tsukemono) This was one of the set items for the lunch special. Chose the miso ramen. The miso ramen had a very strong white miso flavor. Didn't hate it, as I do love miso, but it was a little too much miso for my liking. Typical curly ramen and it was cooked well. Loved the jammy egg too. It was a soy marinated egg. There were also three pieces of chashu too! It was good, but slightly overcooked. The portion of the ramen was medium sized and was surprised they didn't bring a smaller size since it was a set meal. But happy they were generous! Spicy tuna don was a small bowl, but they gave a good portion of spicy tuna, which was delicious. Chicken karaage were two pieces of chicken and it was just okay. No tsukemono was served with the meal. Overall the meal was satisfying. I think the price was fair for what was given. CUSTOMER SERVICE Good, friendly and attentive customer service. No complaints! AMBIANCE / TABLES + SEATS Very calm and relaxing ambiance. It was quiet and no music was playing, which I liked. The restaurant was super clean and I liked how the tables were set. Large tables in the back and small tables were closer to the front. Bar seats on the side. It was a medium-sized restaurant, but the layout made it feel larger. Clean bathroom too. PARKING The closest and most logical parking spot was the one right across from the restaurant. School House Garage on 33 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91105. Rates: $1.00 first 2 hrs, $2.00 for each additional hour. $12 for the full day. I liked the set menu, it was good for the price and I would like to return to try their other lunch menu items, whether it would be a set menu or a la carte.
