I got away from practicing for a few years and decided it was time to get back into it. I discovered these fine folks on Yelp, and I'm delighted I did. Arriving- They are in Sebring on Route 98 about 1.5 miles from US Route 27. They are a snap to find. There is a small parking lot but it's a small range so it's really not a problem. History- The range itself has been around for multiple decades. It's family-owned and the current folks have had it since 2016. Ambience- If you have never been to a gun range there are usually two basic areas. This range follows the pattern. There is the range itself where the shooting takes place and then there is the store. Here you can buy/sell/rent guns, purchase ammo and accessories etc. The two rooms get the job done in fine fashion. Customer Service- On this visit I worked with Crystal who is the owner. She is knowledgeable and pleasant with a no-nonsense attitude which is exactly the way it should be around firearms! Range- Eight, 25-yard lanes. Clean and well maintained. The Range Fee is $15 per person with no time limit. Nice! A wide range of guns are available to rent for a nominal fee. This business gives you a safe, inexpensive place to shoot and as a bonus you get to deal with nice folks! Sounds like a winner to me!

It's been around for a very long time, since 1939 in this location. It really has two faces- Face #1 is that it is a Christian camp for young folks. I can't speak to this as my little munchkin is now in her forties and lives in Denver! Face #2 is a venue for corporate retreats, large social gatherings, extended family reunions, generally rentals of all types. This review speaks to these kinds of experiences. Let's get into the details- Location- Nestled behind citrus groves and on beautiful Lake Trout, they are about a 1 mile from US Route 27 just after you cross the northern Highlands County line. Signage is good and they are a snap to find. Visiting- You can't just stop by as others may be occupying the site. Check their website and reach out to arrange a tour. Facilities- It's a 25-acre site! For single-day events they can handle about 150 folks. If your needs include an overnight stay that is absolutely possible. For that, they can sleep about 120. They can supply food, or you can arrange your own. For you corporate team-building types, they have the ubiquitous rope courses, both high and low, and other related stuff. With 25 acres, they can afford to diversify. It turns out they have quite a reputation as a wedding venue! Pro Tip- Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms are prohibited. I realize some events might typically include beer & wine. That's not gonna happen here. Expect nicely maintained infrastructure with plenty of shade from our famously hot Florida sun! Staff- I've attended a couple of events here and they have been top notch! If you have this type of need in Central Florida, these fine folks should absolutely be on your list for consideration.

I don't wear crazy pro-gun t-shirts and I don't belong to the NRA, but I do believe in protecting my family. To do that I need to be safe and proficient and that's where practice and gun ranges like these fine folks come in. This is an outdoor range which is significant in states with temperatures like Florida. In January and February, it's a great place to shoot. In the afternoons in July and August, not so much. That's why indoor ranges with AC are so popular here. The other issue is pistols or long guns and this place handles both. Lots of folks' love that! They are currently open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to the public. Other than temperature and open hours there is a lot to like here. They are priced right; around $15 for a day pass. Annual memberships are available which give you access every day of the week. The facilities are nice, and they often make improvements. The staff are friendly and proficient and incredibly safety conscious as they should be. They are family friendly as long as strict range safety is practiced. If you need to get some practice in without taking out a second mortgage, they would be a fine choice.

There's a half mile nature trail through a beautifully shaded area around a babbling brook and then a couple of miles of scrub park. You can hike through the white sand fire lanes but take note - in the summer it is HOT and the terrain is challenging. I highly recommend a hat, sunscreen, lots of water for hydration, a walking stick if necessary, and bring a jacket for those afternoon showers and for sun protection. Remember, this is nature - so there are prickly pear cactus on the path, wildlife (walk away, do not feed, and do not challenge), and no garbage cans along the trail, so pack out what you bring in. If you need some solitude and some time to reconnect with nature - come explore this lovely park.

The focal point of the park is a large white gazebo draped in bunting. Throughout the park are paved walkways and benches. The City of Lake Placid uses this park to stage community events like car shows and arts and crafts festivals. Even if there is no events, the park is a peaceful place to sit back and take in some of the murals surrounding the park that Lake Placid is famous for. The gazebo also makes a lovely backdrop or pictures. Devane Park was named in honor of A.H. Devane. He started a large citrus operation along with Ernest Morrow, and E. E. Stewart in 1925 when Lake Placid was founded as Lake Stearns. Mr. Devane was important to the development of the town where he was involved in land promotion and his family made significant contributions to the preservation of the local history.

Park amenities include a playground with swings and slides, basketball court, boardwalk, pier, and a beach where you can swim. The park also contains a clubhouse that can be rented for private events. During my visit kids were swimming at the beach while other people were enjoying a picnic with friends at the tables. I enjoyed walking through the park and taking in the scenic view of Lake June-in-Winter. Next to the Lake June Park and Pier is another park, HL Bishop Park which has a public boat dock and a fishing pier where you can catch large mouth bass and bluegill.
