I just got home from doing a stress test at OHI. The building was cold, due to some AC problem, it was early in the morning and I was not allowed anything to eat or drink 12 hours prior to test, HOWEVER, the staff were ALL so friendly, happy and nice that it turned out to be a very good experience! These guys strike me as basically the "Aspen Dental" of cardiology--a volume provider that you wouldn't expect to be very good and isn't. I would not recommend that anyone go to OHI or try to see any of the their doctors, if there's ANY other alternative. They never answer the telephone. They want to force their customers to use MyChart (which sucks, too) because it's cheaper and easier for them, and they don't care at all whether it works for their unfortunate customers. I've had three procedures performed at Tulsa, OK Hillcrest's Oklahoma Heart Institute so far this year and each time even more impressed by the professionalism of the staff. The nurses were attentive, and my surgeon explained everything clearly. The facility was clean and well-organized. I had a short wait time and felt cared for throughout. I was usually in and out for cardioversion, ablation and heart catheter tests all by Noon! I highly recommend for anyone needing specialized care in Tulsa! read more

Oklahoma Heart Institute: Bullied, Berated, Neglected then Rejected. The above reads the OHI mission statement. If this is the type of healthcare you're seeking OHI will certainly deliver. If you've experienced a crisis this is the care you can expect. Have a major heart attack? You'll have your first follow up visit with your surgeon 11 months later. Unless they cancel and setup another appointment for you 6 months after that. Express concern regarding not being seen and you'll get a call from the management where they will aggressively berate you for going to seek an appointment at St Francis with a cardiologist willing to see you in less than a year after your life's biggest emergency. Ask them to calm down and be professional - as your wife and parents are listening to the call and they will get so flustered that they hang up on you. That's how you get cancelled as a patient I suppose? I simply wanted to find help - a support system - advice. Maybe to thank the man who operated on me. But that is not an option when your nothing but a number and a claim. So when your life is in the balance and the best possible care is what you seek - literally go anywhere else. We went to the incorrect facility. Completely our fault. However, if it is all the same system why does one hand seem clueless of the other hands activities. Once the database is constructed it's a simple effort of granting access. Once we drove the 20 mins to the "mother" hospital, we found her in good spirits and pain. The doctor was pleasant and Tabitha the RN were exceptional in communicating what happened/was happening/could happen. As she lays here resting I am thankful for the care she is receiving. Gotta say this about the cafe - when the entire salad bar consists of 9 items and 3 of them are meat, a vegetarian has little or no desire to spend their money in a captured semi prisoner state...then the hot meals only option for vegetables is corn and Coleslaw it is pretty pathetic. It's as if the cafe is claiming new patients by making them so unhealthy they are required to check it. I totally understand that the employees need eat there also. However, wouldn't it be wonderful if they have valid healthy choices? The HEART floor took EXCELLENT care of my mom and that was the purpose of our check in, ergo anything else is a sidebar. read more

Doctors are great, very knowledgeable and professional. Scheduling and communication have been a nightmare. They diagnosed my mother with 100% blockage in LAD, 75% blockage in left artery and 85% in right. They recommended triple bypass. We have called every single day for two weeks and can't seem to get anyone to tell us anything or even schedule the surgery. Very frustrating during this scary time. We are switching to another cardiology practice after feeling totally abandoned by the Oklahoma Heart Institute. read more

I was just released from the hospital after Dr. Barkat fixed 3 aneurysms, one in each iliac artery on each groin, and one main abdominal artery aneurysm which was huge! lol And he did a most wonderful job! With only slight tenderness in each groin, I was out of the hospital only 30 hours after I arrived. And this is the second time Dr. Barkat has saved my life! In 2023 Dr. Barkat placed a stent in my right Carotid artery in my neck which was over 80% blocked and my right brain side was slowly dying. Again with an overnight stay in the hospital, I immediately felt younger every day! I could actually feel the new right side brain cells developing making me feel better and better as the year went along. Many, Many thanks to Dr. Barkat and his team! OHI should really have a 5-Star review. They are just a highly professional, knowledgeable, skilled, kind group of doctors, nurses and other staff! I was with a different cardiologist in private practice, and based on the care I received there, I could have died on at least two occasions due to the poorly operated practice: phone calls not returned, prescriptions not called in after requests made several times, never actually seeing the doctor after the first two initial visits, messages not give to the doctor, etc., etc. I felt very insecure, and since these are cardio issues, I knew I had to find a new cardiologist. I prayed and prayed, researched online for cardiologist reviews, etc., and everything pointed to OHI. I have been a patient there now for a little over two years, and just love them. I can now actually sleep at night without worrying that I can't reach my doctor in case of an emergency, my medications are closely monitored, the medical staff is always available in one form or another. I just LOVE OHI, and would not even consider changing to other physicians for my heart care. May God richly bless each and everyone at OHI. read more
