Hamburger steak with toast, mashed potatoes and gravy for me. Grilled chicken with toast, hush puppies, mashed potatoes and gravy for the boss lady for lunch in Farmerville, LA today. Service is just plain good everywhere in this part of the country!

Last time I came here I had fried catfish it was good but today I messed up by ordering the fried round steak. Would you like country fried steak? you have to ask for the gravy? But the meat is so thin that it's hard to find it in all that breading. The chicken & dumplings should have just been called mushy dumplings, because there was only one strand of chicken that was like it is then as a piece of hair. The dumplings are totally on edible so they were just were just raw mush. The fried cornbread was like something out of from outer space. I couldn't even bite into it so I have the waitress read me just regular cornbread. Yes, I could bite into it, but it had no taste, bland!!!! The service is good and staff is friendly The food was inedible so I'm not stopping next time I'm just gonna keep my foot on the pedal pedal to the metal and keep on Truckin!!! And it was so hot in there. It was hotter than hell. I thought I was gonna pass out.

Why do you have to pay for extra ketchup, 1 package is not enough. Why can't I have 1 pk of hot sauce with my fish plate? Why?

Let's be honest…read more Ruston isn't exactly the first place that comes to mind when you think of craft coffee, fresh pastries, thoughtful small plates, and palate-forward cocktails. Then there's Common Goods. On a recent trip from New Orleans to North Louisiana, my friend Jacob rounded up a mix of locals and out-of-towners and said, "Trust me." He was right. Where do I even start? I use this word sparingly, but this place is a vibe. I walked in not knowing what to expect and immediately noticed the velvet yellow sectional, the clean design, and a room that was the perfect blend of curated and comfortable. Nothing was working too hard, yet everything felt intentional. Then came the cocktail menu. Whoever put it together understands balance. Sweet. Sour. Spice. Earth. The presentation was superb. I ordered the New Fashioned. Then another. Then...well...let's just say I quit counting after three. The Earl Grey infusion works, it somehow it makes a great Old Fashioned feel lighter, brighter, and completely new. The personal chocolate cake with salted caramel disappeared almost as fast as it hit the table. It was the unanimous favorite. My friends Paul and Racheal loved it so much they got their own, in chocolate and raspberry. The bread service deserves a mention. Fresh bread with balsamic and infused olive oil sounds simple. But there was complexity and finish in both. The bread had crisp edges and a soft middle. By the end of the night I was spellbound by their magic. Common Goods isn't just a great spot for Ruston. It's a place that could hold its own in New Orleans, Nashville, or Austin without anyone batting an eye. This place is a gem. And I'm officially obsessed. If you live in Ruston, this should be a weekly spot.

Everyone was so friendly, the menu had a wonderful variety and our selections did not disappoint. My taco salad was made with fresh veggies, delicious seasoned beef and yummy guacamole! My husband had the burger and fries and loved it. He could barely eat the whole thing and had to take the fresh peach cooler to go. Although it was served warm so we each had a bite before packing it up. It was everything a homemade peach cobbler should be . We will be back!

I…read morewas hungry, so I checked to see what was around me and not too far next-door was a restaurant that I probably never would have went into just by looking over but I promise you it was worth it. When first going inside there is what looks to be like a small general store and the opening to a bar right behind it with people sitting having drinks and talking but more of a country cabin feel bar to it. I kind of felt out of place but went in anyway and asked if they were still serving. They said sure come on in and order at the register with the menu and then just have a seat in the room next-door, which had tables and chairs felt like picnic table and chairs, or you could sit on a chair near the bar which I did because it seemed kind of cold with the air condition blowing in the dining room area. I was skeptical as if it was a local joint because people kept looking over at me but I'm glad I didn't run. I ordered a 9 ounce ribeye and it was one of the best steaks. I think I have ever tasted outside of the near the Grand Canyon in Arizona. It was so juicy and flavorful. I wish it was closer to my house. It would be a weekly meal. I believe the price was like $29 and you had, two side items. I started out with a Louisiana style gumbo, which was very good and tasty but the star of this show with the steak. While eating the cook came out over to my table and asked how everything was and with my mouth full of tender juicy steak, I could just shake my head and she would just laugh. The steak was so perfectly seasoned and had so much flavor with the perfectly cooked pink center . I normally prefer fillet mignon because there is not much fat and I don't care for fat, but I caught myself not only I say sucking on the little fat pieces but actually eating some of it if it had a little meat on it. As my sides, I picked green beans and Black Eyed Peas and it came with a cornbread muffin which I carried with me and ate in the car on the way home. The cornbread muffin was sweet and cake like so I'm glad I didn't get dessert because this was just nice. Yes yes yes a nice steak, and it brought all the Texan out in me. I hope I can find this restaurant again on my travel back to my mom's from Georgia.
