Tonight we picked Ol'South and I'm glad we did. They are on InKind which is a discount app for restaurants. Our discount was $25 off $50 if you don't have this app well here you go. Hey! Join inKind and you'll get $25 to spend at amazing restaurants! https://app.inkind.com/refer/6B7ZHLYW Back to the glowing review. We had chicken fried steak and y'all! This is real hand breaded steak! it's tender and delicious. My sides were real mashed potatoes and flavorful green beans. My husband had pork chops, pinto beans and broccoli with cornbread it was delicious then for the finale... German Pancake. Please do not dine here without getting one! It is a treat. It's lightly sweetened with lemon and butter. Our server was Sherri T she has been here over 30 years and she is a jewel. This is a old fashioned diner with a down home feel. The prices are great too.

It is a great place for breakfest or brunch. My parents from ouy of state love it here. Their German Pancakes remind me of home.

One of my organizations booked Ol' South's wonderful private room for our monthly meeting. They're recently updated the room, it looks great. Ashley, our server, came in and welcomed us with a big smile. We knew we were in good hands for the evening's visit. I've been dining at Ol' South for over 5 decades. I love their German Pancakes. I have my idea how many of them I've enjoyed over the decades. Of course, Even though it was an evening meeting, I ordered a German Pancake. They're so decadent swimming in butter, powdered sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice. While waiting for my order, I enjoy a cup of Ol' South's wonderful coffee. After a brief wait, Ashley delivered my German Pancake to our table. I never get tired watch the servers assemble the pancake tableside. It was SO wonderful, I never get tired of the deliciousness of Ol' South's German Pancakes. Thank you Ashley and Ol's South for the wonderful visit. Ashley, you took expert care of our party of 20+.

Don't let a full parking lot scare you! It is huge on the inside and we were seated right away. Our server was great! The food was amazing. Wasn't disappointed in anything we ordered. Will definitely go back.

I have eaten at the old South pancake house since the mid 1980s It's a staple of Fort Worth restaurants. Historic almost. But the last time I was here, I thought the food was mediocre at best. It's like they're living on the reputation that they built 40-50 years ago. While the old South is very comfortable it is also very worn, very antiquated. Nothing has changed since I was a kid. Including the recipes. So please don't get me wrong I'm not saying they're bad, and an egg is an egg, but I've had better pancakes at IHOP. If you wanna taste some nostalgia, certainly go to the old south, but for me, it will be a while before I go back.

Good, simple food. Decent price. Excellent service. The food was exactly what we thought it would be. My eggs and bacon were perfectly cooked. My husband ordered the Benedict and the sauce was yummy. The German pancake was copious! Everything was tasty. Would return if I were in the area

Came back in after far too long of a hiatus since our first visit here which we enjoyed. Wife and were determined to come in for some Sunday breakfast hotcakes and we sure did. I got the famous German pancake and my wife the seasonal pumpkin pancake combo with eggs and bacon. We had a 10 minute wait up on arrival at 945am so not bad. It takes 35 minutes for our food to come out after placed our order which was really long compared to the first time we came. Beyond that we loved our meals big time! So good! Nothing quite like that big lemonny chewy German pancake all folded up. The pumpkin hotcakes are moist and chewy also, full of real pumpkin flavor and drizzled with a light frosting and caramel sauce. Not a crumb was left after we finished. Our server Stacy was amazing the whole time as well by checking on us and assuring us the food was coming soon. Super kind and helpful staff member. Beyond really long wait times, this place continues to be a weekend breakfast staple for us when in town.

Ol' South Pancake House? Of course I got the famous German Pancakes! Well... no, I actually did not. Instead, I got the breakfast tacos. I had just finished a night shift that would lead into the weekend. I decided to treat myself. I'm usually more of a savory person and was in the mood for some breakfast tacos. It was about five AM around the time. This was one of the few spots that was open. It was pouring outside at the time, but nothing was going to stop me. I picked up my order and got back home. You get three large breakfast tacos. There's eggs, potatoes, some onions, and I got chorizo, all on a warm flour tortilla. I'd say it's an above average breakfast taco. It's hard to mess up when all these ingredients are already delicious on their own. The salsa that comes with it goes well - provides a nice acidity to counterbalance the savoriness of the taco. Overall, would come again. The draw for me in this visit particularly was the fact that it's open 24 hours.

Great coffee, especially for a diner.

It's not often we are in the area for ol' south pancake house and there NOT be a huge wait... we scored with a brunch time meal on a Monday. The food is always solid- can't go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu. Our server was new, did okay but was not attentive and we had to had several times for our coffee to be refilled. It was a great brunch stop at a trusted tried and true diner.

German Pancake (it looks better when they bring it but the extra fold over really meshes the flavors)
Areon J.

Great food and awesome service/ hospitality, the vibe is pretty classic old style. Open seating but not too cramped. We had the german style pancakes (dont add the blueberries), they are nice and fluffy and take you on a fun ride of savory, sweet and then sour to tie it all together! veggie omelette was delicious. And the price was very respectable. Would come again.

This is a comfortable place open 24x7 except they closed this evening for maintenance and will open again at 6am! Sort a bummed because we always enjoy visiting. They are quick - kitschy - delicious - a historic and cool place to visit and have wonderful service with a smile and great reputation. See ya next time!

Classic, old school, 24-hour pancake house. This place gets busy, so be warned. We came on a Sunday around 830 am and didn't have to wait, but by the time we left it was really busy and the wait was long. Our server was friendly and attentive, food came out hot and fast, and everything was solid! Portions are large. This is a beloved local joint. It's not meant to be a cool or flashy place. It's old, which has its own charm, and with friendly service and decent food, it's a staple.

I want to give this an update after my last review. I think I just came in a bad day last time. Coffee was great, great service, I love how close it is to the Southside medical district. Also, sometimes it's hard to find a decent diner that is open all the time like this one, so points for that. YMMV but I'll recommend it!

Ask the Community - Ol' South Pancake House

Did a lady named Lisa use to own this establishment my mom was friends with her in the 80'& 90's?

I'm sorry but I don't know. I just started going there.

Do they have a gluten-free or "no gluten-containing ingredients" pancake option?

Yes the Buckwheat pancakes are "No gluten-containing ingredients"

Does this place accept reservations? Is there a private room for large groups/ parties?

Yes! My group over 20 went here a few months ago and we had our own room. They took care of us and they are able to accommodate. I have pictures on my review for reference

I'm not sure if they just changed suppliers or not but things have gotten smaller / worse quality while the price has gone up for what arguably is standard breakfast fare. Case in point: the Chicken or Egg Sandwich. Used to be my go to, but after having it recently again after not coming for quite some time it was a disappointment. The chicken cutlet used was thin compared to the thick fried version it had before, everything was a bit beige, and a rather small serving of hash browns accompanied it. I had a standard black coffee alongside it which tasted a bit watered down and my partner has commented that the speciality coffees are not as good as they used to be. Other new additions to the menu aren't exactly what you would expect, for example the Monte Cristo is more a deconstructed version of the Bennigan's classic but it's not obvious unless your waiter tells you. The price is typical of downtown but the food doesn't rise to the occasion and the value proposition for me isn't enough to come back unless something changes. Thats not to say the food is all bad, but seeing what it was prior to their menu change, it's just uninspiring for the price. The service however has remained top tier and every time I have gone I've had fantastic service regardless of if it's a Sunday morning with a hour long wait or a quiet weekday lunch.

Excellent choice! I sat in a quiet corner spot near the window. My server was very friendly and understood. I was there to work in addition to eat breakfast. I will say that the coffee was just OK, a bit on the weak side, and so I added some flavored cream which I don't usually do. With that said the breakfast was outstanding! I ordered two eggs that came with two slices of bacon, which was perfectly crispy and good size, along with two tasty sausages. My server recommended I take the French toast which was among several choices as he said this was the most popular choice. Wow! I don't usually order French toast and I'm not that big of a fan, but this was fantastic. Light, flavorful, it was just perfectly delicious. I thought the price was very reasonable, and I would certainly go back to this place if I were ever in the vicinity again.

Wait Time 5/5 We came during 2026 World Cup weekend at 11:00 on a Sunday -- peak business time -- and we waited only 10 minutes for a table of four. I was genuinely shocked we were seated so soon. Drinks were quick and always full, Food was prompt and hot. I truly do not have anything negative to say! Allergies 5/5 I'm allergic to a lot of things and they handled it so seriously. They flagged my order in their system and even used allergy picks on both the gluten free pancake and my best friend's gluten free grilled cheese so our dishes were clearly marked and kept separate from our husbands' food. I was very grateful that the butter was actually melted on the bread unlike other local breakfast places around town where the bread comes out cold and they give you the butter on the side. Oak milk latte was awesome on ice - very cute booths and tables inside, very clean inside. Hubby got the traditional breakfast-chicken apple sausage, sourdough toast and hash browns and scrambled eggs with cheese. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with the gravy on the side. I rather dip the chicken in the gravy verse having it poured on top. My chicken fried chicken came with grits and sourdough toast. The chicken was so good and flavorful. I loved the grits. While we were there, I observed employees loading whole oranges into the fresh orange juice machine. Several oranges fell onto the floor, and I watched the employees pick the oranges up and place them back into the hopper to be juiced. I asked to speak with the owner but was told the owner was not there. A man who identified himself as the general manager came out. I explained what I had observed. The only question he asked was, "Do you know how many oranges fell onto the floor?" I replied that the number wasn't the issue. My concern was that oranges that had contacted the floor were being put back into the juicer. I did not feel my concern was taken seriously, and I requested the owner's contact information. I did not receive it. Because I believe this is a serious food safety concern, I reported this to the Highland Village Code Enforcement Division for investigation. We were excited to celebrate a special occasion here, but instead we left concerned about the restaurant's food handling practices and the response from management. Based on what I personally witnessed, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

While it was a lovely experience in a stunning environment, it fell a bit short of the high bar you'd expect for a $95/pp tea service. The Good: First and foremost, the environment is absolutely beautiful. The Bowie House, Bricks & Horses restaurant, and the Mulberry Room itself are gorgeously decorated with a sophisticated Texas Western theme. The atmosphere in the Mulberry library is intimate and visually striking. Additionally, the service was excellent from start to finish, being both attentive and professional. The food portions are quite generous, with both the savories and sweets served together on a single tower. The sweets were the highlight of the food, as they were very delicious and surprisingly large. We also really enjoyed the tea selections themselves, particularly the Earl Grey and the plum rooibos. The Letdowns: Unfortunately, a few details missed the mark, especially considering the premium price point: - The "Champagne": The experience is advertised as including a glass of Champagne, but we were actually served Prosecco. At nearly $100 a person, substituting Prosecco for real Champagne or Cremant is a major disappointment. - The Tea Service: Instead of receiving a teapot to enjoy throughout the afternoon, the tea is steeped directly in the cup. This limits you to a single cup per tea variety, though to be fair, I didn't ask if refills were an option. - Food Refinement: While the portions were large and the savories were tasty, they lacked the elegance of a traditional tea. Every savory option was open-faced and heavily blanketed in microgreens and edible flowers, which felt a bit unrefined. - Comfort & Conversation: The Mulberry library features low couches, deep chairs, and coffee tables. While this setup would be absolutely perfect for relaxing with a glass of whiskey, it makes leaning over to eat finger foods highly uncomfortable. Furthermore, the seating layout isn't ideal for holding a natural conversation with the people in your party. Overall: It is a nice experience in a breathtaking Fort Worth hotel, but I'm not sure I would return. If the price point were lower, the execution would make more sense. However, given the other highly refined afternoon tea options available across DFW for less money, this one doesn't quite live up to its price tag.

We started with the biscuits and cinnamon roll. I would recommend both. The biscuits came with a jam, honey and whipped butter. The cinnamon roll, which may look a bit underwhelming had a such a great crispy texture on the outside while still being fluffy on the inside. The icing wasn't too sweet and complimented the roll nicely. For the table, we had the pollo frito biscuit w/duck fat potatoes, Brisket Benedict w/okra and the Fixe Breakfast entree w/maple sausage and potatoes. The pollo Frito was delicious, the chicken was seasoned well and maintained crunch even within the biscuit. Duck fat potatoes were also good but were even better after adding some salt. The brisket benny was okay, the texture of the brisket was very odd and didn't really hold up to the egg. Although the okra had a great flavor the batter was a bit too thick which made it chewy. The Fixe breakfast was great and the maple sausage was perfect. Our waitress was Adriana, she was great and very helpful. Overall we would definitely come back and look forward to trying dinner one night.
