Similarly, when my father-in-law asked for a second beer, the reaction felt bothered rather than accommodating. To top it off, our checks were incorrect. I really love this place! It is low and slow and the food is always great! We tried the pizza this time and it didn't disappoint. Apple and prosciutto which was delicious. Staying at the resort and went for dinner. Ordered a Caesar salad (lovely) with Mahi and another with sirloin. The proteins were terrible. Fish was super dry and the steak was grizzly. They did comp the proteins but we waited 1.5 hours for the food. Was told by our waiter (who was great) that the chefs did not come to work today so the line cooks were doing it all. When we got back to our room my husband realized he had ketchup all over his calves (yuck). To add to this the ladies room was in awful shape and 2+ hours after I alerted the staff that only one toilet was useable they had still not taken care of the issue. When a restaurants chefs call in and are not present... perhaps they should not offer a full menu when the line cooks are not able to cook the dishes well. This restaurant needs to take a lesson in customer service . I am paying almost $400 per night at a resort who bartenders (2) of them who were working tonight. We arrived at 7:35 and after waiting almost an hour. We were totally IGNORED. We thought ok, let's go to the bar. We sat at the bar. AND WAS TOTALLY ignored by the 2 bartenders. One was polishing glasses standing less than 1 ft away from us. Never made eye contact. Just kept chatting it up with the couple literally sitting next to us. Never even smiled our way. We then went to ask to speak to the manager on duty. Before I even said anything. He found it quite funny and began to laugh. He quickly cut me off and said, "the wait right?" He just looked at us like, what am I supposed to do???? I will tell them not to ignore you next time.. ummm, there won't be a next time. read more

One of the things that attracted us to the Carter Creek villas was this brewery and restaurant on the premises. I'm a big fan of craft beer and the beers that are made here were on point. Keep in mind, they do not have any commercial beer on tap, bottle or in cans such as Michelob ultra or Bud light. They do have their craft beer to go in cans or fill a growler. We also found the staff to be very welcoming and positive. They have a nice outdoor seating area with an insulated roof and cool blowing fans in case you want to sit outside in the Summer. As a matter fact, there appears to be more seating outside as opposed to inside. One thing that you need to be aware of are their hours of operation. Since they are not in an urban setting, their hours and days that they are open are very different than what you would find in the city. Their business is geared towards the weekend which is understandable. I was going to order some burgers on Monday evening only to find out they closed at 7 PM, thus no dinner. If you're taking advantage of the cheaper rates at the villas on the weekdays, keep in mind, this brewpub/restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday so you'll have to make lunch/dinner plans elsewhere. Also, they only serve breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. We'll definitely return at some point to try more of the menu items. read more

The old 290 brewery and restaurant is part of the Carter Creek resort, and located just steps away from the rooms at the resort, next to the wineries' tasting room. Old 290 is closed Monday through Wednesday, open for lunch and dinner Thursday through Sunday and only open for a LATE breakfast starting at 9:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday. During our stay we only had dinner one night at Old 290, and to be honest wish we had not. While the beer and service were great, most of the food was terrible. We had seven folks in our group, so we had a variety of dishes ordered from their limited menu. Their first problem began when they brought the food out, starting with a couple of dishes in finishing the serving about 10 minutes later. Now for the food quality: 1. Bavarian Style Soft Pretzel - The pretzel was "OK", but the whipped brie cheese provided much improvement. It was different than most German pretzels, with a rough blistered surface. 2. Margarita pizza - Appeared to be straight from the freezer. It had a thin crushed, which was not hand tossed for sure, it looked like one of those pizza shells you can get on pizzas from the freezer section at a convenience store. The worst part about it is it didn't even look like a Margarita pizza, the cheese layer was thin, it didn't have fresh tomatoes on it, and it had some sort of red-looking sauce that doesn't belong on a Margarita pizza and the basil leaves were either hidden somewhere or were not existence. (sorry I did not get photo) 3. Classic Wedge Salad - This was average at best. The Crumbled Bacon was the kind you get at the supermarket in zip lock bags near the salad dressing, mushy and not crips at all! The halved cherry tomatoes did not appear to be "heirloom", and the pickled onions took away from the salad rather than improve it. 4. Korean BBQ Chrisp Chicken Wings - I did not taste the wings but our friend that got them said they were too hot, much hotter than the Korean wings we get at Korean Restaurants in our Korean section of Houston. Also said the French Fries had truffle oil, which she did not care for, so she didn't eat those either. 5. French Dip - Probably the best entrée we had. Tasty, but the shaved prime rib had quite a bit of fat, you need some fat, but this was too much. All in all, it was pretty good. 6. Carter Creek Double - It was just a cheeseburger. The burger was "OK," nothing special or notable, just nondescript. Some of our traveling companions ventured over for breakfast on Saturday morning and were completely underwhelmed. They thought it was hysterical that when they tried to order biscuits they were out. There were only six other people in the restaurant at the time and "already out of biscuits"!! Must have not baked many for the day. When they did get their breakfast, the eggs were cold and pancakes weren't cooked in the middle. It is a shame that such a nice resort has such a terrible restaurant. The prices are high for what you get and when it's crappy food, it makes it even worse. read more

Oh my goodness! How did I not know about this place before this year?! Every time we have been in Johnson City, we have had bad food experiences. This year, I vowed to change that. I did a little search and found this restaurant/winery. It is a little ways out of town, but very beautiful. My husband and I don't even drink and I will definitely be back to this place. The atmosphere was somehow expensive and cozy at the same time. Our waiter was one of the nicest waiters we have ever had. He was Hungarian. This place felt super Christmasy as well. Outside, they had a Christmas movie playing, patio heaters, and all that kind of stuff. . Our food tasted so good! I got the roast beef sandwich, which was made with ribeye I think. The appetizers like the burrata and brussels sprouts were amazing as well. I will definitely be back the next time we are in this area. We stayed at Carter Creek so of course we had to try the on site restaurant. The chicken Alfredo was excellent with lots of spices and flavors that you don't normally get with such a basic meal. The stake frites meal was incredible. The sangria was good but the waitress said all they do is open the bottle and pour it in your cup so that just made it seem much more expensive than it should have been. It was nicely flavored. The open seating to listen to live music was wonderful. Very comfortable with cornhole and Jenga games while you wait. There is a large pavilion and lots of open areas to hang out in. Great place to spend a lazy Saturday evening Unfortunately, the spa is not open still which was disappointing. The front desk said they're having a hard time finding employees for it. We had room 1710 and it was very nice. The only downside is that you have to walk down a rickety set of stairs and then through the mud to get to the room from the parking area. The room itself was very nice and clean. The bed was comfortable and they did a great job of having the room stocked for us. Overall, a very nice place for the weekend read more

I really wanted to like this place. Let me start by saying that the grounds are beautiful. The restaurant is equally nice. Michelle our server was super sweet even under some stress. It appears that the kitchen needs help. We were a party of 6. We did not get served at the same time. Plates all came out at different times. Mine was the last to come out. I ordered a chicken fried steak with the gravy on the side. The kitchen ended up putting gravy on it. They had to remake it. Then they used the same mash potatoes because they were served cold. I didn't eat them. The steak was over cooked, burned at the edges. The green beans were good. Michelle recommended the apple crisp for dessert so we ordered 2. It took 25 mins to get them and there was no crisp. It was cinnamon apples and ice cream. That's it. They did remove it off the bill for the long wait. And Michelle wanted up discounting our tickets slightly. Overall, disappointing. read more

We arrived at 9am for breakfast, our party of 8 was one of the first to be seated. We ordered within 15 minutes of being there but our food wasn't delivered to our table until 10:30. We waited an hour and a half to eat with 2 kids in our party, this is completely unacceptable on all levels of services. We saw multiple large parties that arrived after us receiving their food before we did. When we asked our waitress about our order (multiple times) we were given limited explanations. When the food finally arrived it was subpar. Because of this delay, we missed our spa appointments (2) at 10 And (1) at 11...and eventually had to call to cancel our appointments because we needed to head back home. There was no mention of a discount from our waitress for this extreme inconvenience. Again, another unacceptable in the service industry. This experience alone has made me second guess telling my friends and family about this resort. Save your $ and your time by dining at a different establishment. read more

Had high hopes for this place after reading the reviews, but it was completely underwhelming. Maybe because it was a Friday night at 7 PM? It wasn't that busy. Service was slow. Every time we wanted to order some thing our waiter would say, I think we are out of that. Let me check. I wanted the garden salad specifically because it had peaches and pecans. The waiter told me they were out of cheese and I said that was fine. But he only brought me out a bowl of spring mix and cherry tomatoes. I don't know what happened to the peaches and pecans. I had fish ordered as well and it was extremely salty. My husband got the Bolognese. It looked like they just put a can of tomato paste with pasta and ground beef. Didn't appear to have any cream. I was going to taste it until I saw itmy husband was not impressed. We also ordered the grapevine pizza. Again, the waiter told us they were out of pizza, but he asked the chef to especially make one for us. I do not understand this. Having all of these things on the menu and being out of everything. This was probably the best part of the meal, but it had no basil, only tomatoes. The crust was nice. All of the food was hot. It just did not taste good. I am shocked how upscale the food is at the Old 290 Brewery. I ordered a gluten free mushroom burger with goat cheese, and it was the best burger I've had in years. The chef is definitely top notch and serves exquisite food. They are so short staffed during covid, that even the chef served our food to our outdoor table. The staff came around to light the outdoor heating lamp but it burnt out after fifteen minutes. I think it might've run out of gas. read more

We stayed here for a weekend getaway to the Hill Country and tried out the restaurant for lunch. We sat on the patio which overlooks the lawn area and the place where they have live music on Friday and Saturday night. We shared the vineyard Caesar salad and the meat lovers pizza. The salad was surprising good. I wasn't expecting much from a Caesar salad but this was better than most I've had! I think it was the fried capers and grapes that added the special touch to elevate the dish. The pizza was also pretty good - combo of pepperoni, smoked chicken and of course brisket! You can't be in the Texas Hill country without some bbq meat. It was really filling and I though each of meats was cooked very well and were flavorful. My friends and boyfriend recently experienced the Vine and Dine dinner. I was visiting from California. The ambiance, food and service are above exceptional. It was a 5 course dinner. Shrimp Gazpacho Shooter, Ahi Poke, Marinated Crab Salad, Duck Confit (my first time having duck & it did not disappoint!) and a Chocolate Ganache Tart - each perfectly paired with wine. Everything was so fresh and the presentation of each course was one of a kind. The service was top notch - personable! My heart and belly were very full by the end of the night!
