We started out with COCONUT ONION RINGS $14 I got the Bourbon glazed pork ribeyes $30 with skillet green beans and mac & cheese. He got the Brisket and quarter chicken $26 with skillet green beans and smoke house spuds with $2.50 up charge for cheese and bacon. Overall everything was good. The pork ribeyes were cooked perfectly but the sweet bourbon glazed wasn't much more than a teriyaki sauce and very salty. They were out of the quarter chicken so they substituted it with 2 wings which I didn't think was an even trade. The smoke house spuds were good but the bacon was chewy. The ambience was nice, the waiter was very friendly and attentive. Even though for the most part the food was good I don't think it justified the prices. read more

Saturday night we made the 45 minute drive out to Old Canal Smoke House and it was absolutely worth it. We arrived around 5pm and the place was already filling up fast, always a good sign. We were seated in the enclosed front patio area which had a really comfortable atmosphere. Jessica was our server and she was pleasant, efficient, and kept everything moving smoothly even as the dinner rush picked up. I ordered the combo platter with sliced brisket and a quarter smoked chicken. I went with the leg quarter since I'm a dark meat fan, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was juicy, tender, and literally falling off the bone. The brisket was thick sliced with a beautiful bark, a slight smoke ring, and was so fork tender it just fell apart. Easily the highlight of the meal. The platter came with two sides and homemade cornbread. The cornbread was light, delicate, slightly sweet, and very good. For sides I chose the grilled green beans and house smashed potatoes. The green beans were actually grilled and tossed with mushrooms and onions which gave them great flavor, and the smashed potatoes were solid too. Stopped here a few years ago and came back on a Monday afternoon to try again. We remembered it had been delicious! Well, it is still wonderful! Rachel A waited on us and took time to find out what was gluten free for me. She was efficient, friendly, and got everything right! We got the homemade chips appetizer. One of the best things I've tried. Hubs got a burger and mac & cheese that he said was wonderful. I got the pulled pork with slaw and corn pudding. Everything was so good. We visit Chillicothe often with family on the area, and the addition of the Old Canal Smoke House was a great addition to the landscape. Seriously southern charm in the heart of Ohio. Came here Saturday night for Mother's Day dinner. I had the smoked brisket sandwich with pickles and coleslaw with a side of Mac and Cheese. The brisket was tender and lean and tasted amazing. The Mac n cheese was steaming hot abd full of cheesey flavor. This place has the best BBQ. I highly recommend it. We sat in the front porch area. We happened into this little gem of a restaurant with 6 people on family vacation. Can I tell you this place did not disappoint!!! Aaron B, our server, was incredible, patient, informative, and attentive. The real impression came with the food! Our party got the prime rib mushroom handheld, jalapeño slaw, onion rings, the meatloaf platter, brisket handheld with Mac and cheese, a couple kids meals, and everyone was so pleased with their choices. First of all, let me just say--this was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. My friend and I were both genuinely impressed from start to finish. The table service was excellent; our server was a young lady who was incredibly helpful, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. What really stood out was how fast our food arrived--honestly unmatched by any restaurant I've been to before. We both agreed that the next time we're anywhere near the Chillicothe area, this place is a must-stop. We were in the area for a few days and wanted to eat somewhere local and not a chain. This place has great reviews so we chose it. We were seated on the porch/glassed in area. We ordered an appetizer to precede our entrees. Our meal came before the entree and we told the server to just cancel the appetizer but she brought it. She had accidentally canceled the appetizer order then put it back in, causing the delay. They should have comped us the appetizer order or at least a portion of the price. We didn't even eat it but just took it home. My corn casserole was cold. Not warm in the least bit. My husband said the same about his pulled pork sandwich. His fries were the only thing warm. I absolutely love this place but was a little disappointed this time on how small their portions have gotten on some things. Like the mushrooms are SO much smaller. They used to be big now it was just a tiny little mushroom inside. My prime rib mushroom melt sandwich was pathetic for $20. The food here is amazing. I was down here for Kenworth Dealer Training and our instructor took us out for dinner the first night. I had the burger was off the hook. This time I sat at the bar!which was right by the smoker which gives it a old school smokehouse fe. I got the baby back rib and pulled pork combo with the Mack and cheese and backed beans as a side. I thought this place couldn't get any better but my second meal was even better from the first. The meat fell right off the bone and you can tell everything was super fresh. This is one of the better places to eat in Chillicothe. I was not impressed with the seasoning the first time I ate there; however, it's been fine every other time. They have very good handicapped accessible entrances. You are welcome to use them at anytime. They are on the side of the front dining area and on the side street toward the back. This is my second trip to Chillicothe to check out their BBQ spots. I came across this one and loaded up the family to check it out. The parking is a bit weird, but after circling around twice, we found a spot. The staff was very friendly and greeted and seated us promptly. My wife and I were overwhelmed by all of the options on the menu. But we both finally settled on brisket sandwiches. My daughter got a tender basket. My wife also got a mushroom app that she absolutely loved. The food came out after about 20 mins. Everything looked and tasted good. I especially loved the wedges. They were well seasoned and crispy. I added slaw onto my meal and used it to go on top of my brisket. The sweet bbq sauce was the star of the show. It was by far one of the best sauces I have ever had. The hotel front desk receptionist recommended this place. I called to see if they allow dogs in the restaurant, but they said they only allow service dogs. So we ordered take out. When I went to pick up the food, I noticed a distinct BBQ smoke scent in the air. Food was not hot, the prime rib was tough, the brisket was served shredded and greasy, the sides were unspectacular. The only high points were the side salad and corn bread. We stopped here earlier in the year passing thru on our way home from Chicago to NC. I always stop in Chillicothe because there are so many options. Tried the BBQ place, even though I'm not a big BBQ person, and i was blown away.
