I'm still in love with the ambiance of this place. Art everywhere! And not just one or two or even…read more10, but many. Every style, medium, and vantage point you can think of (or not know about) is here. It welcomes you via the front windows and swaddles you as you walk further in. And the team here are some of the friendlist folks you will meet downtown. And recommendations? They have plenty. They've been there for over two decades so they know a thing or two. Of course they can give you background information on each of the artists' whose work is in the shop and sometimes even some insight on the piece itself. But I also want to highlight a aspect of AOB that I constantly make use of; framing. Once you make it to the back (after joyful hours of looking at everything while en route), you will see a workshop area. There one or two team members will always be hard at work (though never too busy to answer questions). I have brought quite a number of posters, prints, and paintings over the years in search of their guidance in what frame to choose, how to frame it (matte/no matte/thickness of-color-etc.), and even the optimum glass. And every time they have come through. When I ask them to push me out of my comfort zone (aka, solid color frames), they did and my piece was the better for it. Their presence and their services are invaluable to downtown and our community. If you haven't been, or if it's been more than a week, I recommend you stop in soon. You can thank me later.

I don't know about parking. Mrs. K. and I found ourselves lingering longest in the glass gallery, where the craftsmanship becomes almost hypnotic the more you study it. Some pieces feel impossibly delicate, others bold and architectural, and tucked among them was the one name I recognized immediately, Dale Chihuly, whose museum we last wandered through in Seattle. Seeing his work here, in a completely different context, gave the whole collection a sense of continuity across regions and styles, almost like running into an old friend in a new city. Beyond the glass, the museum opens into a thoughtful survey of Southern art that moves easily from landscapes to portraits to sculpture and even furniture, each room offering a slightly different rhythm. The landscapes in particular have that quiet, atmospheric quality Augusta does so well, while the portraits feel intimate without being fussy. Sculptural pieces and period furnishings round things out, giving the galleries a sense of depth and texture rather than a single through‑line. It's the kind of museum where two hours pass without you noticing, and you walk out feeling like you've had a conversation with the region rather than just looked at objects on walls. The front desk receptionist gave us a map and instructed us which way to go to see the art pieces in a chronological order. We really enjoyed the newer colorful items. The museum store was also beautiful with a very friendly lady working there.

Not even a moment of feeling uncomfortable like I didn't know what to do, the studio professions at this studio make you feel like one of the family right away. Amanda was an amazing instructor and made me want to learn more. The participants in the class were newbies, others who had taken some classes before and even a regular who has been coming to art classes given by 4P Studios for 8 years! Everyone was super friendly and very encouraging to everyone. I'm not, by nature, an artsy person but will definitely sign up for more classes at this studio. It would also be a great gift to sign yourself and a loved one or friend up with you for a class. Everything was very professionally done from the email received before the class to all the great instructions and help along the way. And it was super fun! I highly recommend!

I appreciate the artists who take brush to canvas and other mediums to create something breathtaking and life giving. And pottery? Oh, that I am envious of. To take a lump of clay and make a bowl or plate or holiday tree. That is a gift. And one place to find this gift is at Tire City Potters. A mainstay and cornerstone of downtown for many years, you cannot fully anticipate what awaits upon your first visit. It is tucked away on the corner of 10th and Ellis Street. If you have any doubts you're in the right place, just look for the giant yellow square on the wall with a robot head and the word "HAPPY" underneath it. Then you're good. Though I am unsure of the number of mugs-etc. I have purchased from here, I will mention the latest one. It is a tea cup that is dual textured. The mix of colors with a smooth and grainy texture alone makes it beautiful. But to hold it and sip your evening tea, that is art coming to life. I am grateful for their presence, their passion, and their continued work downtown. Stop by and visit them soon.
