We saw the large cinnamon roll sign and decided to stop since we love cinnamon rolls. Our service was wonderful. We ordered two different rolls, the sweet cream and cinnamon to take back with us. The sweet cream roll was really good! It's a definite must try. However, the other roll was not cooked all the way and we ended up having to throw it away. Went for the first time and when the man asked what we wanted I was trying to ask what the specialty rolls were. He kept telling me I wanted the regular old fashioned rolls because they were cheaper. I was not concerned about price at all but he insisted. I finally just ordered 3 old fashioned and 3 specialty sweet cream rolls. As he walked away he rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulders like I had done something wrong. The person behind me even noticed and commented she couldn't understand why he was trying to get me to order the regular old fashioned rolls when I clearly wasn't interested. Dry and lacking flavor. Such a change from the moist gooey cinnamon rolls I remember getting when they opened up years ago (and you can look old reviews' photos to compare). But as is so often the case around here, over time, places choose to skimp on quality instead of raising their prices to maintain the quality that customers were used to. I did notice that next to the register, there's extra frosting or extra cinnamon butter that you can buy. Had I known how little frosting would be on the cinnamon rolls, I definitely would've purchased more of that. But adding cinnamon butter after they're baked (when that's the part that's supposed to be baked into the bread) doesn't really have the same impact. It's just a shame that now I can "add on" elements that used to be part of the product. (I wonder how many people choose to add-on and therefore demonstrate they are willing to pay more for the finished product?) Unfortunately, this area is still underserved when it comes to quality breakfast pastries. If raising prices isn't an option, I wouldn't mind a smaller cinnamon roll that had the same gooeyness and flavor that I was used to. Or, perhaps they could have an old-fashioned option that actually lives up to what they used to serve, and a "light" option that is less expensive and uses less butter/frosting for people who don't care as much about quality. The sad part is, I know they're making these products by hand, but they taste like they were frozen because there's just so little butter and cinnamon inside. read more

I had read multiple reviews about this place having wonderful cinnamon rolls...they were right! It was so good. We went early. They had sweet cream, peach and regular cinnamon rolls. There was not a wait or line. You can see the owners baking right behind the counter. There is no schedule of flavors, they said they decide that morning what they will make. They were hot and very good. The peach was just right, not too strong but a fresh peach flavor. The sweet cream and regular were great too. Fresh and perfect tasting. We were leaving the Kimberling City Walmart, and my daughter, out of the corner of her eye, spied a "Cinnamon Rolls" sign in the strip mall across the street. We decided to come back the next day for a breakfast run. Now, I've been to several Branson-area bakeries that supposedly specialize in cinnamon rolls. And, while none were bad, they mostly fell into just the "ok" category. The Old Fashioned Dough Company on the other hand isn't ok, it's AMAZING. First, the people behind the counter are super friendly and their service is fantastic. We watched the baker rolling out a batch of cinnamon rolls, and he happily explained everything he was doing. When we placed our order for a couple cinnamon rolls, the counter person could have just handed us the already boxed rolls on the counter. Instead, she took two right off the baking line. You can imagine how warm and soft those were! Second, the cinnamon rolls did not disappoint - they are light and airy, and very cinnamon-y. I like that they don't put too much topping, just enough. After all, when you buy a cinnamon roll, you want to taste the roll, not a glop of sugar topping. Oh, did I mention that these are huge? My daughter and I shared one, and we still couldn't finish the whole thing. (Tho the friend who was with us did, and my daughter and I were beyond amazed as he inhaled it.) Third, while we came for cinnamon rolls, they also have a whole bunch of other similarly outsized treats. I couldn't resist placing a second order: a blueberry danish, a bread pudding, a peach cobbler (plus a couple more cinnamon rolls to take home). The only thing to be cautious about the Old Fashioned Dough Company is that if you are suffering from a severe cinnamon roll craving, get there before 2:00 pm. I've been going to Old Fashioned Dough Company for a year now. I have mostly good cinnamon rolls. This morning I got one that was very hard to eat because the cinnamon was thick. I called them to let them know. The lady was a bit contrary and let me know they are the same as they've always been. She told me I could return it or get a new one. I was already home so it'll just be a loss. I told her, "I'm just calling to let you know I couldn't eat half of it because it was so bitter and heavy on the cinnamon." I continued," I don't know if someone new is making the cinnamon rolls but to let them know the cinnamon was way to strong." She then told me there was a new girl making them but she wouldn't let her if she wasn't sure she could do it." I understand new people need to get into their groove but don't immediately defend your cinnamon roll before checking into the situation. I felt like a bother for telling them. read more

Had a good experience previously when I ordered a plain cinnamon roll. However, this morning, at the advice of the counter server, I ordered an orange pastry roll. I received an old, dried out roll that had no orange flavor and my husband had an apple fritter that was dried out as well. We told the proprietor that we didn't want our $$ back, but wanted her to know about our order. Her response was to dig her fingers into my roll and tell me it was a cream roll that was a different type of dough & I should've noticed it didn't taste like orange. Being that I only took 2 bites, it wasn't apparent that it wasn't orange. Anyway, the lady offered no apology or interest in making it right, especially after learning I received the wrong item, which was disappointing. Not sure if this is the norm, but it was very hard to catch this place open, even during their posted operating hours. We drove in on Sunday and this place was closed Sunday and Monday. We went Tuesday and there was a sign on the door saying they were sold out. Went back Wednesday and there was a sign saying they were closed for equipment repairs. Tried again on Thursday and the same sign was on the door. This was the place on our Yelp list that we were most excited to try, or else we would have given up at this point. .....We decided to give it one more college try on Friday on our way home to Texas and they were open! We tried the cinnamon rolls, a couple of fritters and the cinnamon roll bread pudding. A couple of us tried the cinnamon rolls on the road home. They were warm out of the over when she handed them to us, so we wanted to make sure we tried it while it was in it's prime. It had the perfect amount of icing (not too much) but it was still too rich to eat the whole thing on one sitting (it was huge). I ate some of the bread pudding a couple days later and it did very well warmed up in the microwave. I would recommend this place to anyone in visiting Branson. After a week of passing this place, the draw of cinnamon rolls was just too much. It was mid morning on a Saturday when I rolled in (...see what I did there). There were about 4 tables of people already inside when I walked in. I ordered a cinnamon roll and a coffee to go. It's a neat space because you can literally watch everything being made right behind the counter. The coffee is your run of the mill drip coffee from a carafe with a creamer/sugar bar to customize how you see fit. The cinnamon roll...oh the cinn-a-mon roll! It's the size of your widespread hand, first off. There is just the right about of cinnamon/sugar to dough ratio and the icing/glaze/stuff just makes it perfection. The most amazing part is that it's baked all the way through and isn't doughy/underdone in the middle or crispy/dry on the outside. I don't know what magic elves they have baking there, but they are hands down the best rolls I've ever eaten! Everything cost just about $5, which is pretty good for breakfast and a road snack. Between ordering, coffee fixing, and leaving, I was probably there all of 5 minutes. So even if you're in a hurry...you can fit in a pit stop. read more
