It's hard to review Rivington Barn without mentioning the reason why weekend finds this place so…read morebusy. Simply, it's set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the country. It attracts motor bikers, not the 'shoot you on the motorway' variety, but the colourful character types. But apart from them, you'll find walkers', runners', hikers' and mountain bikers' next to casual moochers', many of whom have been doing what they love around the Rivvy Hills and are recuperating with a hot drink, scone, meal or some other traditional delight. The barn provides all of this, along with an array of small stalls and, as this is Lancashire, some respite from the rain. There is a small museum next to the barn that is well worth a look. One of the stories it tells is about a plane that crashed during the war, killing all on board, on one of the hills. In the picture attached you can see the monument they erected in their memory. The picture does not do the area justice - get up there and see it. You can buy guide books from the Barn and toddle off on all manner of walks.

A pleasure to visit. Inside of the Hall Barn it has lovely beams from the roof and hanging from these are fairy lights that are lit for wedding receptions etc and are a stunning effect. There is a bar serving alcholol at one end, chair and table in the centre and seats around the edges, some standing areas. At the other end is a carvery area and hot and cold food area. On Sundays and Bank Holidays the Barn Hall is a popular destination that attracts bikers and walkers and families etc, the atmosphere is great and the barn opens on Sundays to serve food and drinks. It is a wonderful sight outside on the forecourt of the Barn Hall when the motorbikes are all parked up, they are wonderful machinesamazing to see and such a great atmosphere, very friendly bunch. The food that is served in the Hall Barn is of a very high standard, there are lots of tablesbe there before 2pm for lunch as they stop serving at approximately that time or just later. There are a few stalls inside too on Sundays offering cards, socks, jewellery and pictures to name a few. The toilets are recently updated and are a good facility, ultra modern. The Barn opens on Sundays and Bank Holidays normally but is also available for private functions and sometimes there are dances in the evening or live bands. The Hall Barn is a beautiful venue for a wedding. One of my favourite places to be and so I do Highly recommend Rvington Hall Barn.

There is going to be a re-consideration of all the civic suites in Bury and I would love to see this space revamped. Just think of the potential. The most exciting thing that I can ever remember happening here is that when we first moved into the area, my mother, sister and I got to test pizzas and little snacks for some market research thing. Alas, never to be repeated. There's a few classes going on here like belly dancing. I can't think of anything I'd rather do less than have my stomach wobble in front of other people in the Longfield Suite. Time for a change, methinks.

"Wow" it was fantastic, was greeted by organizer wife & husband,the dance music was the best, lovely friendly people.For me the whole venue, fantastic size of dance floor, amenities were perfect. The events space we were going to was in a separate building to the huge brick warehouse that dominates this part of town - I couldn't believe it when I was told it had been converted into a hotel, given how tiny the windows were - it resembles a Victorian prison in some ways. Anyway, the venue had security on the doors checking bags etc. which is fairly standard given the number of people who had bought tickets. Inside, we were straight into the huge bar area, with the boxing ring and rows of seating in another massive adjoining space. This also had a mezzanine level so spectators could get a slightly better view. Predictably, the prices for drinks were erring on the ridiculous side - £4.50 for a 330ml can of Heineken, £4 for Foster's (I'd forgotten how truly grim and tasteless the latter was) and bottles of 'wine' for £18. I'd suggest that you either rely on drinks at home or in the nearby The Bishop Blaize pub to save a few quid. Great atmosphere for the boxing, a bit in-between Metrolink stops for public transport so there's a bit of a walk, but otherwise a pretty good venue for events.

For the Whisky Sessions there were some good food stalls out in the courtyard and three main stage areas, one of which was massive and all of which are elevated. There was also loads of bar space selling a wide range of cocktails as well as beer and wine and, as it was the Whisky Sessions, a fair few wee drams. We had ample vegetables on the side (included in the price of the main), including a very cheesy broccoli which I ate all myself. Given that it's not actually that cheap, it's good the portions were large. Really though once you cross £10 for a main you need to be providing real quality and refinement, in my view. Overall the menu maybe could do with a bit of a revamp, as it felt a bit 90s. Although on the other hand that is quite charming! Ham and chips probably appeal more to the silver-haired clientele, for example, but it might be nice to have something more interesting/that you couldn't make at home. Also some of the descriptions need more detail as you can't tell what you might be getting. Drinks wise the rose I had was not very nice, potentially the bottle had been open for a while. Also the ale, although nice that it's on tap, also tasted a bit stale, probably because it is not getting poured enough (which isn't really the restaurant's fault if not many people are ordering, but good to bear in mind before you do). The desserts I thought were excellent, both the apple crumble and (even more so) the chocolate brownie were memorably delicious. Save room! Service was very pleasant and efficient. Key shops like M&S Clothing, Black & Decker, Tefal and many more all long gone. Harry Ramsden's fish & chips still there along with subway. A chicken shack of sorts, an independent Indian and a BK. The Indian has most food pre cooked and heated on order so no thanks. When there's a Harry's I'm afraid this sort of competition has no chance with me. They used to have a spud u like but it's gone as has an ice cream parlour. The Cadbury alleged chocolate shop is still there but prices are rip off with supermarkets offering identical products much cheaper. Costa coffee is still there and they are now advertising the fact that they are selling M&S food so at least that's quality food. I'm not sure I'd make another trip back here but they still do the artisan market days so that would bring me back.

A wonderful modern theatre in Salford at the Lowry Centre. The Lyric Theatre is the biggest of the…read moretwo theatres inside of the huge Lowry Centre. It hosts many amazing plays, musicals and many other entertainment options. I have been to see two National Theatre productions here which include the amazing War Horse and recently the Curious incident of the dog in the nighttime. It also has a couple of restaurants and cafes and amazing views to go with it. I have sat in many places in the Lyric theatre and there really isn't one bad seat plus the seats are really comfortable! All the staff who work here are really friendly and they seem to love there job. So take a look at the Lowry website to see if theres a show coming your way soon. Even if you're not sure that you might like the theatre, give it a go you may love it! The Lowry also hosts many art exhibitions which currently has Behind the Mask, the biggest collection of BAFTA-winning actor portraiture ever assembled, which has come to The Lowry for its first time out of London which is worth the trip out of town alone! You can easily get to the Lowry from the city centre of Manchester on one of the Metrolink trams which head towards Media City UK!

A mass has been found on the left side of my brain and is spreading. I have had treatment, but at this point I have been told its a life limiting condition. I contacted to cancel my tickets, because well, and I can use that money now to help with home costs. They replied to me that I needed to get them proof that I was 'not going to be here'. They then said that they can swap my tickets for another performance so I don't get to miss it. I am in Derby. They want me to go to London to get a sick note from my surgeon, or to download a form from ATG and then send it to my busy surgeon, get him to fill it out and send it back to me to prove it. As a last ditch attempt, the Palace Theatre Box Office was approached, and they turned around and said that if I am unwilling to follow the process with ATG, there is nothing they can do. Or alternatively I could sell my tickets on Twickets, because I am obviously well enough for that! I.am absolutely flabbergasted. Sickened. Disgusting service. This is the first review, but my family are going to leave a review on every review site, all media sites. They have the transcripts of the conversation. The low down dirty sick thing about it all though is that I paid for refund protection. Which means absolutely NOTHING. HORRIBLE INSENSITIVE PEOPLE. Never been so sickened!

The building is stunning and steeped in history, that itself is profoundly beautiful but reflecting on the actual experience of seeing a show here, it can be hit or miss. Pros: Many, many amazing shows passing through The building itself The history The stage Location Cloak room Concession prices on tickets Merchandise stall for those that want a souvenir Cons: Can be very noisy during a show (can hear the dryers from the toilets, mobile phone interference affecting the speakers, ushers don't really tell noisy customers off) Limited leg room Certain areas have very restricted views e.g. mid/back of the stalls Expensive drinks and snacks Tickets can be overpriced I'm an avid theatre goer and have seen so many classics here, I will not stop going but I think things needs to be tightened up. Going to the theatre is a real treat, anything that brings the experience down needs addressing.
