The entire space is covered in clean carpeting and is great for crawlers. They maintain an online calendar showing when field trips will be coming, so you can plan around that if you want to avoid crowds. We were here at the same time as a small field trip and there was still plenty of space for all. The unisex restrooms are clean and feature excellent changing facilities. There is also an art room and an upstairs room with changing themes. The upstairs space is utilized as the cake space for birthday parties. Overall, this is a lovely, affordable place to bring your young child for the day.

QCM is just getting started and this review is for their location on Washington square. I hope to come back soon and update this review for their permanent location, a few blocks away, that's being established right now.  This children's museum is almost everything my kid hopes for in a children's museum. We've been to many- all across the US, and the exhibits here compare in quality and design. The main floor exhibits include a science area, art area, and role play areas (fire station, vet clinic, grocery store, etc). The upstairs area has rotating exhibits which have included a construction area, farm area, and arctic area. They renovate that area every few months which keeps the museum fresh, new, and exciting. On the main floor there is also a dedicates baby play space with items for kids under 2. My 6-year-old and 1-year-old could spend all day, every day here. They absolutely love it. The entire establishment is very clean and extremely well-maintained. All toys and exhibits are checked by staff regularly and appropriately organized and thoroughly washed. I have never found broken pieces or dirt/ grime/ grease in any area. There are 2 large gender neutral bathrooms. Both have changing tables with spare wipes and stepping stools next to the sinks.  The staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful. Admission prices are the cheapest of any kid play place in Quincy. You can also find QCM bringing rotating exhibits to public events, local schools, and local libraries. They are very involved in the community and have begun offering additional services that help educate the public on child development as well. Honestly, I cannot speak more highly about this place. Quincy is so very lucky to have the Quincy Children's Museum as a part of our community. My family will be supporting them for the decades to come- as we truly are so so grateful for all they offer our kids.

The museum hasn't changed much since I last visited 10+ years ago, but that's okay. Rusty the Sloth and the polar bear in the gift shop are staples. Macbride Hall houses the Department of Anthropology at U of I. Wouldn't it be cool to see these artifacts every day as a student? The pair of lions in Mammal Hall were placed in an enclosed case in 202 (previously not enclosed) and a nice mural was painted behind them. From what I could tell, that's the most recent update to one of the museum's exhibits. Museum is free, but a donation is suggested. Please don't skip the donation box located near the guestbook in the gift shop. As indicated in a previous review, some of the exhibits have become quite 'well-loved.' Interactive features no longer work, particularly in the Hall of Birds. Mammal Hall is my most favorite, but there's so much to learn from each area of the museum. The museum covers 3 floors of Macbride Hall. Take the stairs and work those quads! Elevator available as well. Due to the summer season museum hours are a little different, so I'd call ahead or check the website for details. Parking during the summer on the street is easy to find. $1.50/hour. Highly recommend!

It's not accessible for wheels due to all the stairs, and some of the spaces are small, where you get to walk into the rooms; but it was a good place to cool down in the heat and learn about history and Tom Sawyer. I toddler did walk into the windows, a couple times that separate the historic items from the walk spaces, but he is fine. I definitely recommend a stop for anyone in the area to learned about Mark Twain in that time.

A Great place to learn about Mark Twain Before visiting the…read morethe city of Hannibal and Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum, I have to admit that I was a little reluctant to go. I assumed it was simply going to be a small house with a few displays, and I wasn't sure it would be worth the time. Boy, was I wrong. The city has done an outstanding job preserving and celebrating the life of Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain. His influence can be seen throughout the city. This site, the Boyhood Home & Museum is the perfect place to begin exploring everything Hannibal has to offer. Rather than being just a single historic house, the attraction actually consists of several buildings spread throughout the block, each focusing on different parts of Twain's childhood, family, writing, and legacy. The exhibits are well organized and do an excellent job telling the story of how a young boy growing up in this Mississippi River town eventually became one of America's greatest authors. As you walk through the different buildings, you'll recognize many of the places and people that later inspired characters and settings in books such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I especially enjoyed seeing how the museum connected Twain's real life with his famous stories. The buildings are well preserved, and there is a tremendous amount of history packed into the exhibits. Two challenges for the site are 1) it may be difficult for mobility impaired and 2) some of the informational signs located behind Plexiglas were a little difficult to read because of reflections. There is also a nice gift shop with plenty of books and souvenirs, along with a fun photo opportunity where visitors can pose helping Tom Sawyer "paint the fence." It's a clever addition that both children and adults seemed to enjoy. Overall, this attraction definitely exceeded my expectations. Whether you're a fan of Mark Twain, enjoy American history, or simply appreciate well-done historic sites, I would highly recommend visiting the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum. It is an excellent introduction to Hannibal and one of the highlights of the city. Enjoy!
