My husband is on a strict diet due to allergies, and Des was able to provide us with gluten-free toast for breakfast, which was fantastic. The room itself had a wonderful view and was so cute and homey. The whole house is decorated very nicely and has dried flowers all over. This is a very historical home with an abandoned castle on its grounds, which you can explore at your leisure. In the sitting room was a book about the history of the castle and how it came to its current state. It was very interesting and Des was able to provide some additional insight on this matter as well as other local history. The room was bright and airy, very comfortable bed and well-appointed bathroom and with a panoramic view of the car park. A pity but no biggie either. Dinner in the restaurant was pretty good too and the breakfast the following morning plentiful and really excellent. However, I have to say there is a distinct hi-de-hi quality to Kelly's which seems to be their USP. The clientele on the midweek night we were there was a mixture of retired couples and families with very young children. Afternoon tea was complimentary but we arrived to discover an entertainments manager starting a table quiz for the eager denizens giving the place a distinct air of a retirement community rather than a hotel. Returning to the same bar after dinner, a musical duet were eviscerating an old Kenny Ball standard, curiously using a guitar to imitate a saxophone. On reflection, we opted for an early night. I realise this is exactly why people return to Kelly's again and again but, frankly, it was not our cup of Darjeeling. Unlikely to return but if organised events in a resort hotel are your thing, who am I to argue?

It's a great family hotel with a kids club and plenty of entertainment to keep them busy. But there's lots for grown-ups too. They have a fabulous new spa which has every treatment you could imagine. Did I mention it's by the beach?! I love being by the sea. It's also a treat to sit out in the hot tub and watch the waves crash on the beach below. The best part though is the food. Be warned, it might be too much for some people. There's breakfast, then there's a gorgeous buffet lunch (or you can have lunch in the dining room), there's afternoon tea and then of course there's dinner. The food is fabulous, local and great Irish dishes. There's also La Marine bar and restaurant if you want something a little less formal. Kelly's has all of the attributes of an old fashioned hotel experience in a beautifully modern, cosy hotel.

My husband and I had a travel agent book us this amazing place in 2015. I fell in love with it so much I came back with my best friend in 2017. It's a very reasonably priced place for everything you endure here. It's a restored little castle that you are encouraged to explore during your stay. It's located on a farm that you are welcome to collect eggs, milk cows and pet the animals (optional). The inside of this place is something out of a Victorian dream or something you see in a movie. Very exquisite interior, sparkly clean, spacious rooms, cozy and comfortable. Water is provided in your rooms, outside food or drink is not accepted (understandably). It's a completely divine experience you will never forget. The hosts are wonderful and deliver such heartfelt hospitality. In the mornings they go above and beyond for a breakfast, milk and cheese made on their farm. They have a lovely menu you are sure to want more. The first time I stayed here, my husband and I were the only ones on the entire facility. The staff had a huge presentation of a delicious breakfast buffet, I was blown away. I had the exact same experience the second time with two other families and it was lovely. I truly can't express enough how much I love this place, I would move here and work here in a heartbeat. I want so much for everyone to enjoy what I can only dream of. I've traveled a handful of countries and many places in the US, I have never had a move gorgeous memory. They did it for us for 10 euro. What a deal, clean and folded ready to go. There were homemade chocolate chip cookies that evening. Now let's talk breakfast. The veggies were too well done and soft. The curry soup was excellent but the mushroom just good. The cheesecake was ok but the lemon was amazing. The fish mains were very good. I far prefer the small sitting room beside the bar (which is in itself not too shabby), open fires and a large brandy... very nice. The grounds are huge and just the thing for you to wander around with a hang-over, a couple of hours of fresh air, including a visit to the pot bellied pig and the chickens, leaves you hungry and ready for more food.... Which is really what this place is about. The bar food is great, a little expensive but worth it. I'm giving 4 stars because we cant award halves - 3.5 would be my preference but it in no way deserved 3 so 4 it is!!

Gordon in the Ballast Bar was wonderful as was the barman, whose name I failed to get. But a special thank you goes to Kate at the hotel Reception Desk. The staff are friendly and attentive, and if you are a local you are bound to meet someone in here you know. I visited the bar and grill on a Friday afternoon for lunch which was filling up quickly at 1pm. The menu is varied - Carvery options, fresh fish, burgers, wraps, sandwiches the list goes on! Each time I have eaten here I have found the food to be filing and tasty with food orders arriving in good time. They also have a restaurant - Oyster Lane restaurant which provides a luxurious dining experience. The hotel overlooks the marina and they have their own car park at the rear which is free of charge as long as you are a paying customer :-) So if you are looking for quality fresh food then look no further!

The conversation with the host was entertaining and informed. One insight he shared was about Ireland, he said " It's a great wee country that would be perfect if we could put a roof over it" ( to keep the rain off ). We will return again tomorrow.

The hotel and golf club is about 12 kilometers outside the city so location wise, that's a plus. We got to explore the Viking quarter of Waterford which I was mightily impressed with. However, back to the hotel. From a promising drive up to the hotel to the actual reality of being in it, it just felt a let down. We were placed in the new wing which had a bland coulda been anywhere kind of vibe. We had a 3 courser later that day and my abiding memory is of the service being very off. Just took aaaaaaages for any and everything to be done. And the food was quite ordinary. This was followed by afternoon tea the next day which again was nothing but average. Being kind really. Went for a walk but weather was miserable which just about summed up the place!!
