My mom used to work in Tralee in the 70s and would eat at the Grand every single day. No matter how busy it is, which it usually is, your food comes out pipin' hot and quick every time. The decor in the dining room is fancy, however not too fancy. The pub area is my favorite place to be seated. They have a beautiful pub style ambiance. The food is AWESOME! I usually get the one of the specials for the day. I lean towards the beef or lamb. I've also had chicken Maryland which is also very good. Each entree comes with a side of vegetables and potatoes. Breakfast was the typical complete Irish breakfast and came with all the variety one could hope for in the toast and cereal selection. Wifi was provided and worked well. The room itself was very comfortable. The bathroom, too was fairly modern and didn't leave me wanting more. The owners have two small dogs that are very sweet. One played fetch out front with me for an hour while I enjoyed a cigar - this put a big smile on my face. I'd happily stay here again.

It felt like a combination of a convention center and an assisted living home. Fern figured out that there were a lot of daily buses coming in full of local seniors in town for some rest and relaxation, and this was the place to be. That also explained the adjacent convention center, including small and large entertainment venues. And it was odd to hear "Take me Home Country Roads" emanating from the bar both evenings we were here. I didn't know that John Denver was Irish? Other "Opportunities for Improvement": 1. The buffet breakfasts were largely inedible, including undercooked sausages, weak coffee, OK eggs, and stale bread. 2. The Gleneagle is a couple miles out from central Killarney, requiring a cab ride both ways. We might as well have been out in Iowa somewhere considering this suburban locale. There were of course positives: 1. Our room was spacious and comfortable. 2. Gleneagle staff were all very nice, engaging and helpful. And maybe some missed opportunities, like taking advantage of some of the music performance opportunities? There have been some impressive acts that have come through the Gleneagle.

From 9:30-11 they have traditional irish music and then from 11;30-2 they have irish rock. This is really just "pop/american radio music" with a twist. It is good and worth a visit. Drinks are cheap and talking to the locals and having a blast seems almost guaranteed. I'm not sure what the "pony" reviewer did but this place couldn't be more friendly.

Tower View Lodge is located just south of the town itself, in a 200 year old manor, so it's oozing with old school charm. You can't fecking move for paintings and vases with flours and fancy stuff and that. It's wall-to-wall class!! I was delighted with the breakfast aswell, because they made real coffee in a coffee press, and i was really worried that it was gonna be tea and instant coffee, but it was real coffee, fruit, selection of meats, brioche, toast, nice cereals and milk. That said, for traditional Irish fry-up lovers...they don't do that here. Not a problem for us, but might be a problem for some. Be warned...they have bats!! It freaked the missus out because she could hear bats scratching and hissing in the attic above our bedroom. The owner said it's because of just how old the building and because of the tall trees that surround it. She did say it was rare that you are actually bothered by them, I didn't mind so much...I felt like i was in Wayne manor or summut!! So, I recommend the place all round.
