One of my favourite gastropubs. Good outdoor space and nice decor within. Friendly service from staff and good food too.

best 'foodie' pub for miles. Not really a drinking den - the focus is definitely on food. Service friendly and efficient.

The quality of the meal was fantastic. I ordered their petit filet with their creamed corn, a combination of corn, a touch of cream, spinach, onion and bacon that I'll make at home having tried it this way here. They butcher their own meat every day, and the filet was very tender, cooked as desired. The overall menu has something for everyone, and meat lovers are very likely to enjoy the options. The restaurant itself was lively but not so loud that anyone was shouting... a very comfortable place to eat and enjoy company. It's also dog friendly. I'll try to make it back again on the next trip through Heathrow... thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

I had the spicy scisciLian lamb which was very tasty. The Malbec by the glass was great and I drank some twickenham brewery Naked ladies pale Ale - good. I give it only 3 instead of 4 because of the highe prices. Maybe I'm just not used to this part of the country. I'd go back.

One of those things I think that all Brits instinctively desire is a "nice country pub for Sunday…read moreLunch": this establishment in not-so-rural Surrey manages to tick all the boxes for me: - Plenty of parking - Plenty of tables in the garden (with a BBQ option) - Good food in generous portions - Good service They managed to score a quick bonus point with me virtually as soon as we sat down for lunch: the first thing the waitress did was offer "tap water" rather than trying to perpetrate the oh-so-irritating up-sell attempt for bottled water that has marred recent decades (for most of the UK perfectly drinkable stuff comes out of the tap: it wasn't that long ago most restaurants automatically put a jug of water on the table ...). So I'd definitely commend the Black Swan. UPDATE (Nov-11): After several visits, I'd now have to reduce Service from "Good" to "Generally Good" - there are unfortunately more than one member of staff who need some education about "Customer Focus" ...

It was served with chips and three different salads. A great kids menu too, with smaller portions of adult quality food. There's a definite relaxed bourgeois quality, if you are into that sort of thing. Dishes range between 9 and 15 pounds for lunch. I did have to sit in a chair that kept sinking back because it was half on brick and half on gravel, but the food and atmosphere made up for it.

The interior has also been refurbished. In common with the pub itself, the decor is now modern with a sleek dark brown colour scheme giving the place an inviting air After picking a drink at the bar, I was invited to choose my table. The service was great from the Thai speaking waitresses. A bowl of complementary prawn crackers arrived while I was perusing the menu. They were also attentive enough to turn up the lights to help me read the menu and my newspaper I went with my test dish for Thai restaurants. Unusually, though the place has apparently changed hands according to Pat G, they made the same mistake with my pad thai as on my previous visit - they were too sweet and I did miss the crunch of crushed peanuts which usually accompany pad thais but not here I had paired my noodles with chicken gand dang, advertised in the menu as a spicy red curry. The waitress even checked with me that I had intended to order a spicy hot curry and I answered in the affirmative. While the dish was inoffensive, the spicy description must have been calibrated more to Leatherhead than Bangkok palates, so much so that I was able to drink the remaining broth like a soup At this point, my Yelp rating was 4/5 for the service but only 2/3 for the food where a 3 in my book means inoffensive enough but failing to make it onto my rotation of regular places to dine at So, in true Yelp fashion, I used a tie breaker and ordered dessert, something I don't often do, especially at an Asian restaurant. I went with the banana hot bowl, described as steamed slices of banana in coconut milk and sugar and sprinkled with sesame seed. What arrived was very reminiscent of a Malaysian nyonya dish called bubur cha cha, which usually had things like pieces sweet potato and yam also added to give the dish variety and body For the childhood memories evoked by the dessert, I'm going to round up my score to a 4, mainly because of the good service but while the food side has improved, it could still do better, especially as the prices are at the higher medium end. For good Thai food, I like to see a mixture and balance of different flavours, something which Chaba Thai could continue to evolve
