Then a visit to the toilet confirms it had not changed in 20, as the olde worldness of the late 80s jumped out at me. It also should be noted this is the first stop on the Bookham Pub Crawl (BPC). Then it is time for the real surprise as my round approaches. This place is rather expensive. I mean unnecessarly so. Why charge so much? What are you providing that makes your pub so special? I ask to myself but the answer I have been told is that this is a real community asset. One from a friend who has grown up here. From the outside it looks like a nice country pub. Once you step inside, however, it's a beautiful sanctuary. The first big room is a casual bar with lots of informal seats with a modern farmhouse vibe. The second area is a nice, smart dining room. Very spacious and bright. The back area had another feel, something a bit more relaxed and country. We were all rough and muddy, so we headed into the back. Food-wise, they are pretty modern, offering salads, seafood, heart soups and sandwiches, plus a chalkboard full of specials. And on our visit, being a Sunday, there were also several traditional roasts and entrees. I thought the food was pretty solid, but my roast beef was a bit tough. That might have been the cut. But otherwise, I felt we were served by the whole family - and done so quickly, efficiently and with a smile. You can't go wrong with a stop here.

The quality of the meal was fantastic. I ordered their petit filet with their creamed corn, a combination of corn, a touch of cream, spinach, onion and bacon that I'll make at home having tried it this way here. They butcher their own meat every day, and the filet was very tender, cooked as desired. The overall menu has something for everyone, and meat lovers are very likely to enjoy the options. The restaurant itself was lively but not so loud that anyone was shouting... a very comfortable place to eat and enjoy company. It's also dog friendly. I'll try to make it back again on the next trip through Heathrow... thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

In common with the pub itself, the decor is now modern with a sleek dark brown colour scheme giving the place an inviting air After picking a drink at the bar, I was invited to choose my table. The service was great from the Thai speaking waitresses. A bowl of complementary prawn crackers arrived while I was perusing the menu. They were also attentive enough to turn up the lights to help me read the menu and my newspaper I went with my test dish for Thai restaurants. Unusually, though the place has apparently changed hands according to Pat G, they made the same mistake with my pad thai as on my previous visit - they were too sweet and I did miss the crunch of crushed peanuts which usually accompany pad thais but not here I had paired my noodles with chicken gand dang, advertised in the menu as a spicy red curry. The waitress even checked with me that I had intended to order a spicy hot curry and I answered in the affirmative. While the dish was inoffensive, the spicy description must have been calibrated more to Leatherhead than Bangkok palates, so much so that I was able to drink the remaining broth like a soup At this point, my Yelp rating was 4/5 for the service but only 2/3 for the food where a 3 in my book means inoffensive enough but failing to make it onto my rotation of regular places to dine at So, in true Yelp fashion, I used a tie breaker and ordered dessert, something I don't often do, especially at an Asian restaurant. I went with the banana hot bowl, described as steamed slices of banana in coconut milk and sugar and sprinkled with sesame seed.
